If I remember the storyline correctly, Deadpool actually gains a critical piece of information that could be used to stop the skrull invasion. The problem being, Norman Osborn hacked the transmission and stole the information, stealing both his reward from SHIELD, and his credibility for helping stop the invasion. So Deadpool decides to take revenge on poor Normie' by trolling him and attacking him (with help from the recently reformed Taskmaster)

One of my favorite bits is from Charles Soule's Thunderbolts run. During an alien invasion of NYC, the Thunderbolts are dispatched to help fight it. Deadpool breaks away from the team to get some pizza, and the whole time comes across people who think he's Spider-Man, either just saying hi to him or asking to be saved by the aliens. Instead of getting mad, he makes pleasant conversation, saves peoples' lives, and in general is just a decent and heroic (albeit still goofy and unhinged) person. Wade has hidden depths.

Hell, you don't even have to look that far back to find Deadpool being a good guy. In the most recent run of the comics, he starts off the series saving a hostage for free just because he saw the guy's kid on TV saying they wanted their Dad back. He also spent a whole evening with a young girl contemplating suicide so that he could try and dissuade her eventually getting her psychiatric help. He continuously watches over his daughter and felt utterly destroyed when he thought she died also heavily regretting the estrangement to her mother. And let's not forget the fact that he was a god damn Avenger which he helped fund plus he has a close relationship with Captain America and Spider-Man. This guy is a Superhero. He may have, once upon a time been an anti-hero but a few decades of great writers have evolved the character into a guy with a messed up mind who is trying his damn hardest to do good. If that isn't a hero, I don't know what is. Sure he uses guns and swords and kills people but he does a lot of good.

Here's another thing: Officially Deadpool is a part of Uncanny X-Force as a mercenary. That's the thing about Deadpool... he's a kid at heart. And like a kid, he has a deep seated belief in the notion of right and wrong. He doesn't think of himself as a hero, but there's always a part of him deep down that WANTS to be a hero, and doesn't abandon the hope that maybe he really could be, in spite of his nonchalant dismissal of the notion. And really, he just dismisses it because he believes that heroes should be better than what he is... he sees himself as something that's beneath that ideal, which demonstrates very clearly that his moral center is intact. That's about the only thing I didn't like about the movie. He was too much of an anti-hero. The real Deadpool had a softer, almost naive side when it came to somethings. For example, in the cartoon Ultimate Spider Man there was an episode with Deadpool and at one point Spider Man says they need to "watch out for booby traps" and Deadpool laughs "You said traps!" A lot of people would see this as a way for the censors to get passed a dirty joke, but that's TOTALLY THE KIND OF JOKE DEADPOOL WOULD MAKE! Ignore the obvious dirty joke and do something more "family friendly" instead. Not to say his comic is family friendly but that was just part of his charm. And yeah, Deadpool totally has a soft spot for kids.

Strange to hear no mention of wade's own children who he genuinely tried to raise but couldn't knowing they'd become targets. Or the time DP spent an entire issue talking a teenage girl out of suicide. Or the time DP "attacked" Norman Osbourne entirely so the X-men could save him after Osbourne was badmouthing them and spreading rumours about mutants. There's really not slim pickings for the times deadpool was an incredibly genuine and kind human being.
