The reason why Mopar is popular among muscle car enthusiasts is simply because of the legendary Hemi engine. The engine is an icon. They can still make the engine, all they need to do is improve the emissions and fuel economy. Getting rid of the Hemi engine will make the Chrysler, Jeep, Ram, Dodge and especially SRT brand a joke.

I had a 190HP, 270 fpt Vette for a long time. Before that, I drove a 401 CI Nailhead, Buick Wildcat. (325 HP 445 Torque.) I would get another like it in a flash if I could. "Magic Carpet Ride" I wound up with a little four banger minivan for my family. Now we are talking! That '89 Chrysler Turbo Van would "BLOW THE DOORS OFF" my '73 Vette ( If I took out the back row seats to clean up.)

The final day of the Hemi V8 will be a sad day for the motor world. My 2004 Ram 1500 has the 5.7 Hemi and not only has it consistently delivered excellent reliability (having 264,000 miles on it and still going strong) but the performance to this day is still fantastic. It has just enough life left in it to fool me into thinking I'm behind the wheel of a performance car, and the sound is to die for. No twin turbo V6 will ever be able to replicate the distinct sound of a mighty V8, which is the sad yet inevitable truth. The Hemi will always have a special place in my heart

Steven Cash the EPA actually requires higher mpg. That's why you get a gas guzzles tax if your car doesent meet a certain mpg rating. Without restrictions on car companies, climate change would be that much more impactful. I say keep it up and maybe we can have a clean earth for once. The tragedy is it's going to be take a major crisis for people to realize it instead of starting now.

The late model Hemi's just don't have the same excitement the original ones had back in the 60's to 1970. Those days it was extremely rare to see one and when you did it was only in a sporty muscle car. When one of those drove into the local drive in restaurant where the gearheads hung out in those days it got everyone's attention and everyone had to go take a look at it. Now days they are a dime a dozen and come in all kind of Dodges. Nothing to get to excited about. The legend of it went away with the original muscle car era.

Lots of people want them with V6 engines for daily driver and long trip cars. There are thousands of them out there. As long as they still have V8 options it doesn't hurt anything. Mustangs, Camaros, Challengers, Chargers, jeeps pickups and many other popular cars have offered 6 cylinder versions for years.

That's the whole point! When will FCA start taking quality and reliability seriously? Probably never! It would really be nice if these beautiful Mopars were also known for reliability. In our dreams...
@williamcharles94807 жыл бұрын
There was something that I observed about Mopar, even before the Fiat buyout that was a source of great disappointment to me. The quality of Mopar products was poor even during the Mercedes-Benz era. Benz treated Mopar like it was that red headed stepchild at Christmas, just as the Italians have. It's almost as if the love affair between the Germans and Italians that existed before and during WW II is still maintained and Mopar, an American product is purposely meant to be left out in the cold. They'd prefer to lose money with the American labeled product than to incorporate up to date manufacturing facilities and technology in it. My gut feeling is that Chrysler products are going to be history before too long. The Ram truck line may survive for a while, but as for the cars, they're going to be gone. Whatever engines will be placed in the Rams is anybody's guess. The Cummins Diesel may survive, but gas engines will probably be some kind of pieced together imported Fiat junk. Pieced together so that it will pass US emissions regs. Then we're going to have Trump's import tariffs to deal with. God only knows what kind of effect that's going to have if the majority of the Chrysler vehicles contain mostly imported parts. It may be the death of Chrysler.

That's a Damming blow, I seriously love Hemi's even though I am from England UK. I have been a Fan of Chargers, Challengers and Ram Trucks, even the new gen Durango for some time now. Sure Mercedes-Benz, AUDI and BMW's can do the same job with smaller size V8's & V6's, But none can quite beat a HEMI experience with that Hot sound and feel. In short it'le never be the same again, "The End Of An Era".

Ford did not "replace" the Coyote V8 with its EcoBoost. They simply offer the EcoBoost as another option. The V8 is still by far and away Ford's most popular single engine offered in the F-150 trucks. If I know Ford, and if I know the fans, any amount of money will say that there will be a point where the F-150 is offered with an EcoBoost V8. It wouldn't be the craziest thing, I mean 2019 is supposed to see a hybrid F-150.

travfdy stay away from the dealer
@michaelwise69707 жыл бұрын
I am your father ! why stay away?.. they work on the same cars every day they know what they're doing and especially if your car is under warranty you don't have to pay for anything and best part is they let me choose from a couple different models loaner cars for free till my car gets fixed.. but I kind of get what you mean if you don't have a warranty the dealership can be way more expensive
@427ci37 жыл бұрын
Michael Wiseguy dealers are greedy and they will always over charge, if you're under warranty then you're legit, once the warranty is over then you gotta take it elsewhere. either do it yourself like me or take it to a independent garage.
@michaelwise69707 жыл бұрын
I am your father ! yeah that's for sure once the warranty is up its best to go somewhere else and yes if it's something simple like oil change, tune-up, brakes... but that's about it because with all this new technology, computers they have in all the newer cars most of the time they need a freaking laptop to plug in to fix anything.. sometimes I miss the good old days.

I have a 2011 Challenger SE & 2011 SRT8 Challenger. They’re both great! I haven’t liked a motor as much as that Pentastar since the 3L six-cylinder boxer in my Subaru XT6 in 88. Some days I miss being able to change your cam and have a mild lope and have that wonderful big block rumble like my 71 Riviera 455, but getting 23 miles to the gallon with a nearly 500 hp engine soothes that pain LOL! If I had to choose between the two of them I guess I take the 392, but I would miss that Pentastar.
@upsidedowndog12567 жыл бұрын
There are much better combustion chamber designs now, more power and lower emissions.
@novaman35097 жыл бұрын
Anthony Butera Wrong! The HEMI head has the best flow numbers of any American car, with the 5.7 heads flowing 340cfm, or more! To give you an idea, Chevy's 6.2L LS cylinder heads flow about 280cfm! The HEMI's draw back, is its tiny camshaft. The 5.7 is only 395hp, because Chrysler wanted power, and fuel efficiency. Massive head flow, high compression, tiny camshaft. This is why the 5.7 responds so well to an aftermarket camshaft. A good camshaft (and subsequently, valve springs and a good tune) can bump the 5.7 HEMI to 450-480hp.
@novaman35097 жыл бұрын
Anthony Butera It's an efficient enough design that Porsche, Audi, VW and Ferrari copied many of their cylinder head designs off of the Chrysler Hemi -- with some variations and tweaks, of course.
@upsidedowndog12567 жыл бұрын
NovaMan 350 Yes, it has worked very well for 85 years or so, but this year even Harley Davidson finally abandoned it reluctantly to be able to pass newer emissions regulations. They have the most advanced fuel injection system there is except for formula one, just to keep the old tech aircooled pushrod hemi head emission compliant. until now.
@novaman35097 жыл бұрын
Anthony Butera I can't claim to be an expert on Harley Davidson cylinder heads, but what I can see from the pictures shows that their older combustion chambers were definitely not hemispherical. The roof of the combustion chamber, in between the valves, is slightly rounded, but that's the only resemblance of a Hemi head I can see there. Their new head design seems to be a penthouse design. I imagine the switched too a penthouse because they went to 4 valves per head, over 2. With the old head design, it appears impossible to have 4 valves.
@upsidedowndog12567 жыл бұрын
NovaMan 350 While you are looking, notice how Harley leaves no provisions for individual valve adjustment. The hydraulic lifters and pushrods act on a single piece rocker for two valves. That's gonna be a problem.

FCA has indicated that the 5.7 Hemi will continue to be available on Jeep Grand Cherokee until the 2021 model year. I just ordered a brand new 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee w/5.7 Hemi. I'll be driving this Hemi for many years to come. BTW, I get as high as 24MPG on trips on my 2011 JGC as a result of their MDS (Multiple Displacement System) which works flawlessly to cut off 4 cylinders while cruising.

Don't sleep on the pentastar, it's a great engine. A twin turbo version is something I would love to see. The Normal Aspirated pentastar is already a beast. I could imagine it would outshine the ford's ecoboost. Mopar should softly introduce the engine to the market as an alternative to the Hemi. Twin turbocharged All wheel drive challenger R/T would be nice. Dodge Stealth anybody. Come on Mopar, you have an arsenal of technology. It's time to rub the imagination crystal ball again.
