I don't understand why everyone uses riptide over triangle within a triangle which you can target engines with or score a lot of points with dagon. can someone explain?

Triangle Within a Triangle has a couple issues. A lot of the time the engines you want to hit with it get boosted preventing it from killing them. Targeting your own units with it can give decent value but it makes the units very tall and you vulnerable to tall punish, which is doubly true on Dagon who consumes. It's also not great in shorter rounds where you're just left with bronzes. Lord Riptide on the other hand will always play for at least 10 even if you're not clashing with him. That's great in situations where the opponent isn't playing units and most other control cards lose value. The consistency of his value and ability to answer units usually outside of Heatwave removal range is what makes him so good. He also has a very high ceiling if you have Might.
