Woman puts the pot down and expresses confusion at their fear, wondering where one cop is wandering off to, and the cops say away from the pot. Woman says "I rebuke you in the name of Jesus," which, if you're a black person with a religious family, you've probably heard as a super common phrase of dismissal. The cop closest to her takes it as a threat and threatens to shoot her in the head, then she apologizes and ducks away in fear. Nothing in her hands. Cops come around with raised weapons, then she reaches up for the pot, they shout, one officer shoots. She was not disregarding orders and acting crazy the whole time. The officers absolutely put themselves in a bad situation and escalated it.

It's not controversial that the cop shot this lady when threatened. What Destiny was saying is that the good cop is the one who recognized that going into the apartment for a 911 call where the reporting party seems suspicious would expose themselves to a lot of potential threats. The suspicion of altered state is substantive grounds to detain the woman outside the apartment while they investigate. When Myron is saying, "we get the benefit of 20/20 hindsight," he's trying to create a mutually exclusive claim: that we only know about the danger because it's after the fact. I think that's BS. I don't think it's too much for people to do that, but I do think it requires someone of a particular presence or engagement that I feel most folks would be inattentive to. I feel like we should hold cops to that standard since their line of work can involve life-or-death situations. I don't think the officer deserves being chastised- this is a high standard that we're talking about- but behavior that could be corrected has cost someone their life, which we should endeavor to improve upon.

The Sonya Massey shooting is the most open and shut case of police negligence and is literally a murder on camera. Sonya says "I rebuke you in the name of Jesus", Cop replies he will shoot her in the face, Cop pulls out a gun, Sonya flinches then ducks and says shes sorry to avoid getting shot. She lifts the pot up a TINY bit to not drop it while doing this, It's very clear she isn't trying to throw water on the cop at any point. As soon as Sonya even starts to duck the cop shoots her.
