Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup kzbin.infoUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

Bank bass fishing I carry 4 rods. 2 baitcasters and 2 spinning setups. Always have a t-rig or shakey head setup and always some sort of crank bait setup. The other 2 setups I vary throughout the year. Jig, topwater, spinner bait, wacky rig, fluke/ swim bait. If I’m fishing ultralight I only bring two spinning setups. Always a rooster tail tied on one and whatever I think might work on the other. Enjoy these kind of videos a lot! Always like hearing/reading about others approach to fishing. "new" fisherman here...I'm 49, just got back in after 20 years. Got a 7' MH Fast Ugly Stick spinning. Considering I didn't know much last I stopped, learned about braid and flourocarbon. Got 20+ different soft plastics. Learned Texas, Carolina, dropshot. Then got my son an Ugly Stick. He fell in love with fishing. My daughter came, got her an Ugly Stick. Just got my son a baitcaster. I'm picking up one. Kids have kayaks, I occasionally rent a boat on the resovoir (our only location close and it's fantastic... Castaic Lake known as Basstaic). Rods are all and will be 7'. Next rod, I'll be learning will be 7' MH Fast baitcaster. If I get one after it will be 7' M Moderate. That's all I'm interested in. Three rods at max.

Debo, I’m going to differ with you on this one. I am a one rod one reel bank fisher. In a boat I have at least 4 combo’s. But on the bank I am walking a couple of miles if there is enough open shoreline. I am not going to carry multiple combos. I make due with what I have. Being a finesse fisher I am operating in a very narrow line of lures. When I have more than one combo with me I pull a Debo and either step on one or snag it with the back cast. I do carry several in the car and decide at the car the style I am going to fish that day usually determined by the conditions at the water. If I break something the trip is not over. All I need to do is walk back to the car. I do like this style of video then again I like any type you put out, just keep them coming. Great content.

Thank You so much for the shout out, really appreciate it. I usually have 4 combos when I fish, a frog, a worm, a swimbait, and the fourth could be something bladed, or a swimfrog, or jig, or creature bait, or crankbait, or something I want to try. My forth is like when a quaterback calls an audible when he notices something in the defense. My favorite advantages of the multiple rig is the time it saves switching lures, the water columns it fishes, the range of lure options, and if a rig goes down, I can still fish the others. I also have left behind a rig (felt like such a dufus), didn't notice until I got to the next lake, but when I drove back to that first lake, the rig was still there, thank God!

Debo. IMHO great breakdown in 1 vs a few combos. New angles gain confidence may be the best experience learning how their tackle is used properly and what work for them. And the many advantages to having the ability to cover bottom, mid-depth and top water. And have that quick more finesse bait to follow up a miss blow up. The only disadvantage I have taking a few rods is properly carrying them without accidently snagging a rod in trees or like you forgetting a rod. Searching a bank spot can be a hassle carrying a few rods. But IMHO having at least 2 combos nice because anyone can blow that line on a real. Or having the ability to adapt to what the Bass want. In heavy cover vs more open water. So I usually have 2 rods and sometimes 3 rods.

Hi Debo. Good topic. You are correct, that there is no right or wrong answer to this one. I usually take three combos, mostly to cover the water column like you mentioned. My confidence set up is a medium spinning combo with a weightless trick worm, so I always have that with me. What can you do with a baitcaster that you cannot do with a spinning reel?
@michaelrodriguez29732 жыл бұрын
@@bobbyhempel1513 baitcasters typically are able to throw heavier lures and you can cast more “accurately” when flipping/pitching lures in directions the spinning reel action are not conducive to achieving. I would add that you could probably “do anything” on either rod but they are differently specialized tools that may make it easier to do special jobs independently.

1 to 3 setups. Depends on when and where I'm fishing. If I bring 3 it's a medium heavy bait caster for swim jigs/jigs/texas rigs and 2 med heavy spinning rods. 1 for ned rigs/weightless paddle tails/jerk baits and the other for top water. Go down to only 1(winter time in mn on the Mississippi) and I grab the med heavy spinning for weightless paddles/neds/jerks/shaky heads. This is all for smallies on the river. - Great video Debo! nice subject Debo! I have now so many combos and I've learned from them. Today I try to keep simple. I always use braid with fluorocarbon leader on the size of my rods. That way I can cast bottom, spinners, swimbaits, and top waters. For top-water the leader on the size of the rod works like a charm because it does not impact the action of my lures and more importantly, it does not sink. besides, I love braid because it's so sensitive, specially when using Ned Rig. That's my medium heavy setup always. I also have another BFS setup on a Shimano Aldebaran and UL casting rod same deal. No snaps! I use trilene knot I've learned from one of your videos. When the leader is too small I change it. no big deal!

Great points and ideas, Debo! I have a boat but usually carry only two combos. Storing combos is an issue on the boat if I have a family member with me. The combos I take are slightly different for different lures. I don't like switching baits often. Even if I was fishing off the bank, I would always carry two if possible in case something happened to one or so I don't have to change lures. I have had good luck with Norman Speed Clips since they are lightweight and usually do not interfere with the action of the lure. Sometimes the Speed Clips seem to improve the action with topwater lures.

Great video as always, and I totally agree. One combo probably best for beginners. Beyond that, for pond bank fishing, 4 is my bare minimum (2 spinning, 2 casting) if for no other reason than to have a backup for each. But I also get really impatient fishing with less than that many rods rigged and ready to switch baits. That is in comparison to minimum of 6 when I'm boat fishing.
@josephnywayfarer13454 жыл бұрын
Excellent explanations. Personally I carry a Minimum of 2 combos when bank fishing. 1 baitcaster and 1 spinning, most days I take 3, the last one being another baitcaster. Reasons most you mentioned, covering water column, if one combo blows up I have backups, can’t use baitcaster for some finesse presentations. The last reason is one you didn’t mention. If i take one combo all of that cutting and re-tying wastes a lot of line.

I love these videos, thats how i found your channel. I must have watched your ''how to cast a baitcaster'' video 10 times berore i decided to buy one ;) I have only 4 combos, for pike, zander and perch. I only take all 4 with me when i go out all day fishing. If i only have a few hours i usually just take one But to be honest i fished for years with only one combo, and there was nothing wrong with that.

It depends on how much time I have, what type of fishing I want to do. If I wana do a little fishing before work, one pole. If I have the day off? Multiple because I can check to see what’s actually biting and enjoy the water. Ps, buy the combos. They usually cheaper together unless you are into the specific rods or reels. Like I wanted a 1 piece for my 404, it took me awhile to find a rod I liked. ( the combo was 2 pcs. Nothing wrong with that just not want I wanted.) Now I want the two pcs cuz the fish are changing their habits and I have to be able find them. Which means trekking through woods and staying off the docks cuz it’s the time of the year for kayaks. (It’s not overly hot, there is plenty of breezes and less people around the water than summer)

I love the mixture of fishing, unboxing, and vlog videos. So keep doing what you're doing Debo, great work. BTW, I usually try to take 2-3 rods when pond hopping. Usually two baitcasters and a spinning. Although, on occasion I will take 4, but not too often as I don't like being that encumbered when pond hopping.

I usually take 3 or 4 BUT, I can remember getting by with just one when that's all I had and I enjoyed every minute I was out. That AB pro-max is a great budget reel. I still have it and a Blackmax that I use all the time and have never had any issues with them. Great video man!

Dig the variety of videos. I had 3 set ups for bass until we found my wife's old rod, Ugly stik carbon med. for finess Ark Lancer pro med hev for flip pitch and frogs Ark randel Tharp b-hitty for all my cranks and vibrating baits. Newest combo is my wife old combo for weightless lures pinnacle power tip pro with a OLD stradic FE But I'm all about that visibility and cross over rods. Use the pinnacle for trout too, then got a old daiwa d wave 8ft for cats, bombing out glide baits for bass, and catching leopard sharks in the California bay. Then I have a big surf set up for the 80lb rays we get out here in California during the summer.

one, braid combo to a buzzbait or frog, maybe a live bait too.. a second rod for finesse or follow up, and a spinning rod for drop shot or UL finesse rig.... well put
@andrewsales54172 ай бұрын
WELL SAID! You hit on some great points! Depends on what you plan on fishing for and how... I bought 2 rod and reels starting out and I can do anything between 1gram or 1/16 oz micro lures to 1¼oz+ glide / swim baits - MH F baitcaster and ML F spinning. If you only bring ONE COMBO, and that breaks, birdnests, you have a backup to keep fishing. But I do see the advantage of BOAT ANGLERS having 5-10 (or more lol) rods set up with different lines and baits. Me personally, I want a rod and reel for every power UL spin, LIGHT bfs, MEDIUM mod crankbait, HEAVY frog, a rig, swimbait rod. If your not rich, you need versatile rods that can do multiple techniques and ALWAYS HAVE A BACKUP! MINIMUM 2 COMBOS!

I have really been enjoying your combo of video’s. I think the balance is perfect and I have learned a lot. I take two poles. Either two bait casters or a bait caster and spinning. My frogging bait caster with 50 lb. braid always goes.

I started watching a couple years ago when I decided to start throwing bait casters, on the how to cast a bait caster videos. I went taking one spinning combo to three, maybe four combos when I go out. Top water, a moving bait and a finesse rod. I usually have a few more combos in the truck though. As for your question about what lure I would grab in that scenario, I instantly thought worms or a frog. Mainly because i have been so hell bent of froggin this year haha

This is ME. You mentioned confidence. Went fishing with a buddy and he said I promise to get YOU a Big Bass. Within 30 minutes landed a 4.7LB Bass. From there went and bought couple packs of Senkos. My next few trips landed 5-7 Bass. Next trip to a small pond that is shallow, shyed away from Bass fishing. Fished the Pond caught a small Bass or 2. Then hit same spot had no luck and landed a 4.5LB Bass. I was stoked. Now i want to add one more Bait caster combo to give me 2. I have built confidence in just a month of getting on the water!!

Great video as always Debo. I have stepped on St. Croix rod before and it snapped, it sucks. Used to just carry one rod around until this year. Now I gear up with a bait caster combo and spinning reel combo most of the time. Or I''l switch one combo out with a frog combo. I tend to walk the banks or move around so it's easier to cary just two at a time with a tackle bag.

I was just asking myself this morning. I've really gotten into feeshin this year. I had a few cheaper spinning combos but nothing great. Got a Pflueger Purist and a medium Fenwick for the finesse stuff. I can also use a 1/4oz chatterbait with it. I got my first baitcaster(RevoX) and have used it for Texas rigs, frogs, jigs, moving baits, worms, ect. Ive decided to make a frogging set up my next purchase. I love frogging but would like to be able to toss in a jig or Texas rig at those fish that miss or don't fully commit. I also love the Chatterbait. A glass rod combo is 2nd on my list. This would give me 4 rods that would cover just about all of my needs and let me leave either a wacky or ned rig on my spinning set up. Another great video! It really help reinforce what I had already been thinking.

When I first started learning how to use a baitcaster it was SO nice bringing a backup spinning rod. I would have been sent home early several times from backlashes if I didn’t bring that backup😅
@Freshmanger20094 жыл бұрын
3 or 4 rods when fishing from shore. 1 spinner (drop shot or wacky), 1 medium for cranking smaller to medium lures, 1 medium heavy for everything heavier than weightless (Carolina rigs/texas rig etc), and last rod for frog/punching/glidebaits.

Great video ..I use Two combos and also 2 for my son and 1 more just as back up ... at first I bring more than one just in case of bad backlash or some accident so I can still fish and have some fun .. I usually start with some swim bait and the second one with Carolina rig or Texas rig .. now I learn some good things from this video . Good one Cheers

I’m a 3 to 4 rod angler. Great in-depth video to explain this. I’m trying to invest more time and money into better gear. Just buy some here and there and it will build up over time. Anyways great stuff Debo.

2. One spinning for finesse and one bait caster for the heavier stuff. Sometimes put the heavier stuff on the spinner too for longer casts if I’m feeling lazy or not having a good time with the bait caster. I’m pretty new to this still though, so I want to learn how to use all the different baits, then I’ll get some more appropriate combos over time and after some research and consideration. I like my Sixgill combo, you should check it out and see if you can get some for a review. I’d be interested to see how you like it compared to other brands.

I bank fish with five combos and I fish from a boat with 11 combos. I love the versatility that comes from having a number of combos. I also go with that many rods so that I can prepare myself for problems such as dropping a rod in the water, stepping on a ride (like you did), breaking a tip, or something else.
@rvfishingyet4 жыл бұрын
For a beginner, easy to argue 1 finesse spinning is a great place to start. As I watch more of yours and BassGeek’s channel...the more I learn, un-learn, and re-learn, I think 3 maybe 4. 4 especially when frog is an option. Time on the water, and options as you move along the bank have been key for me.

I take 4 combos set up with my favorite baits. What I learned from this sission was setting up the combos for the different depths of the water column and for follow up casts. Good info!

Most everyone who starts fishing only buys one rod and reel. They likely start out fishing crickets, worms, minnows or some kind of bait and float. You never saw Opie or Andy Taylor using more than one rod. That is just fine for anyone; who is happy with the simplicity of fishing. If someone goes too advanced and sophisticated to soon they might get frustrated and give up. No body spends big bucks on tackle right out of the gate. Two rods one for fishing a bobber and one for fishing a sinker and hook comes next. Covering the bottom and top is covered; then you can go crazy and the sky is the limit. No matter what you read, watch, or others tell you; plan on making a lot of mistakes. This never ends no matter how many years you fish. If anyone tells you different they are fibbers. Two rods one spinning and one casting covers about everything. After that; well things get complicated; now days the combinations of stuff to fish with is endless and that goes for all the recommendations as well. If you honestly compared your failure rate to your success rate; every angler spends hours sitting on or near the water wearing a Dunce hat gazing into the water. There is no lack of Humble Pie for anglers.

I'll keep a handful in my car and pick one or two to take with me around the bank when I get to the body of water and determine conditions/what baits I think I'll want to throw. Always have the option to run back to the car and switch up if needed (if it's close enough by)

Great topic, I generally have several different combos. I use different power rods and lb lines depending on the lure selection. Although at times if I am just going out for a short trip I will just grab the jig rod and go fishing. At times it seems more relaxing just having one rod an lure. Nothing to think about just fish 👍
@garylawlor22883 жыл бұрын
Good advice. When I go bank lure fishing in freshwater I bring two combos. For pike I usually bring out a longer powerful swimbait rod (based on the S.G browser blank) and a shorter rod for big jerk/glide baits. Or else I bring one of the pike rods and a lighter rod for perch and brown trout. No freshwater bass in my neck of the woods.
@evanslaton55884 жыл бұрын
I go with up to 3 rods, whether fishing from boat or bank. One is a ML power spinning rod for finesse lures (ned rigs, wacky rigs, grubs), one is a M power spinning rod for heavier stuff (frogs, big spinners, swimbaits), and the third is used for live bait (UL power spinning rod if going for panfish, or a heavier spinning rod for catfish and stuff). If I'm only going to use one rod, I choose either the finesse rod or the heavier lure rod, depending on what I think the fish will be doing that day. If I'm fishing with bait, I always have the two lure rods with me as well. I think it's important to keep at least one rod that can handle the small/lightweight stuff, as well as one that can handle the bigger/heavier stuff. Trying to work a finesse bait on a meat stick doesn't work well. Likewise, working a heavy spinner on a finesse setup also feels weird. Finesse fishing is my favorite way to fish, but getting on that frog bite is a close second. You can't efficiently fish both with the same setup.

Before my grandpa gave me his old bass tracker, I used to love bringing one combo because I could move around the lake between spots. Having a spinning rod was nice when the fishing was tough, but nothing feels like hiking around with one combo and a backpack. You feel so mobile.
@buzzdriver774 жыл бұрын
Well, I’ve been bass fishing for 30+ years. First starting out, I was a 1-2 combo guy. Now, I usually take about 4-5 combos with me. A couple med hvy/fast action rods. One is more parabolic for chatterbaits and other moving baits. The other is my t-rig and jig rod. I have a heavy action rod for froggin/pitching/flippin, a medium action spinning rod for finesse baits, senkos, etc. And also a dedicated swimbait rod for throwing the bigger stuff when I’m looking for that TANK. I don’t use all of them every time out, but it sure is nice not having to constantly re-tie and so much more time efficient. More time fishing, less time changing baits. Multiple combos is definitely the way to go in my opinion.
@Hillers954 жыл бұрын
I’m a 3 combo feesherman. A froggin combo, a med. heavy casting combo and a med. power spinning combo for those follow ups. Sometimes I’ll bring along an ultralight rig in case the bass aren’t biting, maybe the panfish are. At least I might get dinner out of the day.

Great video Debo. For me, I have to have a minimum of three rigs. Mainly because of the different setups. Med, med hvy, and hvy. Sometimes a spinning combo too. Thanks for all you do, and love the content.
