Deck Wreck #6 Meren of Clan Nel Toth| Commander Deck Tech

Good Morning Good Evening and Good Afternoon!
There is a decklist on screen and minute or so into the video.
Today's video is all about my build of Meren of Clan Nel Toth. She's a reanimating master and has a horde of the dead ready for battle. The goal here is to get some creatures in the graveyard while ramping your mana and killing everything your opponents play, then drop Meren and bring back the dead to control the board. We might even bring back some of our opponents creatures while we are at it. This deck is a little unassuming until that first ramp/removal engine starts and then the whole table knows what your up to. I win plenty of games in my pod with this build and the only downside I run into is ppl cloning or resurrecting my beef creatures. Really fun to pilot and even makes a great team deck. Solid deck. Been playing meren for awhile now on TTS and decided to finally build an expensive version for real. For anyone looking to build this deck i highly encourage you to think about adding lurking predators to it. Anytime someone plays a spell top deck, if its a creature it comes into play. Makes opponents scared to even play spells.

@@GrimmTutelage ever think of putting nim deathmantle + ashnod's altar + grave titan for infinite mana/tokens? Great way to combo out, also works with avenger of zendikar

Appreciate that! I like to order them this way when I add/remove cards as well to make sure I'm not throwing the cmc curve out of whack haha. Aristocrats with gain and drain are very fun as well. I had plenty of this in my original build but had to adjust to my pod and this came about. Fleshbag is great but Plaguecrafter makes sure everyone has to suffer haha

Why not running any Protean Hulk pile? Also Earthcraft + Squirrel Nest is nice combo to add.

I honestly just didn't cross that bridge with Hulk yet haha I do run the Earthcraft/Squirrel Nest combo in my Rhys the Redeemed deck tho lol. What Hulk pile would you suggest?

@@GrimmTutelage You can try Disciple of the Vault + Lesser Masticore + Melira, Sylvok Outcast + Viscera Seer/Carrion Feeder. This pile works at instant speed and also keeps your curve low. Earthcraft + Squirrel Nest is nice backup combo, if you're not able to assemble your Hulk pieces.

Wouldn't use lifeline as it works for your opponents too. No sense making them sac creatures if they're just going to get them back.

@@GrimmTutelage yeah. Thinking of all the inventions i sold that are now around $1000 each and that I'll never own again doesn't put me in a good place. I certainly didn't get that much for them. Injured my foot and was unable to work for about a year. About the time i could work again corona hit and the world stopped. Bills didn't. It's been about two years of being umemployed and I'm one of the lucky ones that still hasn't gotten either of the last two stimulus payments. It's been rough. I have water, but no electricity. Can't drive my car because car needs work. Haven't lost my house yet, but i will next year due to property taxes if i cant find income. Sorry for the sob story. Stress has been getting to me.

I gave away my entire collection in 2002 from beta til then to a kid who probably didn't even get into the game like that...so many RL cards gone. Sucks about the situation, hope it gets better soon. There are alot of missing pieces in this deck like why dont you run stitchers supplier, or fauna shaman you dont even have carrion feeder or vicera seer and what about mikaeus the unhallowed i have been playing meren for a lomg time and with out all her missing staples shes not as threating like my meren deck can win on turn 3 but when it doesnt i can still do graveyard shenanigens with fauna stitchers supplier and what not i also didnt even see and ashnods alter in here thats a must with meren

I had most of those in the deck at somepoint. I may not have explained it in the video but my decks are tuned to a pod of about 8 friends and our meta rotates. I feel that decks are never "final" between that and new cards but this version was my response to graveyard hate +boardwipes, with Mikaeus specifically we have multiple decks in our rotation that Mike and Trike so I deviated from that which included Fauna Shaman and Elvish Piper. Its definitely not "optimized" for wins but at the time it was really fun to pilot. I haven't played the deck in probably close to 2 years but I will be "Repairing" all my deck wrecks after I finish the series with the current decks I have and I plan on adding a ton of new goodies + some of what you mentioned to ramp up the powerlevel we are at currently. Appreciate the feedback!

Can you use mirage mirror to copy meren and bring out an extra creature?

Unfortunately you cannot. Once you copy Meren you will have to sacrifice one of them to the legendary rule.

@@skoe3251 this is exactly what I go for. In a perfect scenario your getting a creature with Meren. Copying that with Strionic Resonator and then doing it again with Mirage Mirror for 3 creatures back per turn. It gets insane if you can pull it off

Mikaeus and or Aristocrats would be a great addition! I just run Mike and Trike in a different deck and Aristocrats in my Korvold deck (coming soon) is all. They definitely have a home here as well tho!

@@GrimmTutelage I made quite a few changes to my Meren Deck lately. Before it looked kinda like yours. But i switched to a more cheaper (mana cost wise) decklist with more combos. I mostly could recommend the Protean Hulk, Viscera Seer, Phyrexian Delver, Mikaeus and Walking Balista Combo. Just with Protean Hulk you can instantly kill everyone. Its quiet a nice addition and an emergency Button if someone is about to win :D

@@GrimmTutelage I saw the others person combo but i think the combo pieces are useless on their own. With my recommended combo you have combo pieces that all fit perfectly in the deck and are very strong on their own :D

sweet list, always great to see a fellow Meren player here is my list if you wanna see a different take on her. also feel free to make comments on my list im always looking for constructive critizisme ive actively stayed away from having any infinite combos but last friday i realized that Mikaeus + Yawgmoth + Any creature + Gray Merchant / Kokusho goes infinite archidekt.com/decks/1631618#Meren_current_build im currently planning some changes since the release of MH2 i wanna try out some dirty reanimation loops with spells that reanimate multiple creatures at a time and Eternal Witness / Timeless Witness

@@GrimmTutelage victimize with both eternal witness effects becomes 2B reanimation with buyback 0 Wake the Dead can rebuy any amount of ETBs from the yard with a buyback cost of 1 if there is an eternal witness effect in the yard Blood for bones is a bit more boring since it requires casting the ewit effect
