Well the only thing to do is wait. The background checks take a lot of time. They also accelerate and slow down at different parts of the year based on the work load of the us departments looking at them. The family separation situations are a sad part of the visa process but the only way to fix this is to have alternative plans when applying for visa.

I assume the dna match was fine. Then you will have to wait for the final results of the background check. I have seen most cases resolve in 1-6 months. So this looks like a long time. Looks like a complex case based on the theory of the white slip. Just do exactly what they say and wait patiently. They will do background work in the US. Looks like it is under processing. They may resolving some issues. Unfortunately when one applies for visas one does not have much control on the outcome as it is up the country issuing the visa to make decisions. And various political, economic and security parameters are involved along with a plethora of government departments. So you will have your wait and every month or so you can ask for an update on the application. The fact that visa fees was taken would mean that some outcome is expected from the process: positive or negative.

Like any joint pictures of family events, birthdays, vacations etc. it is up to the officer to decide. They generally like to help for cases where a us citizen spouse is there.

They may check the visa sponsor, the applicants background and history etc. The process can take 3-6 weeks to 6 months. They will do background processing on the company and you. The 221g is a way to get more time to make sure they can make a good decision. Though it says denial or reject it is more like a legal pause. You have to wait for a decision. Keeping the passport at the embassy is generally considered as a positive design as they can then send of the the passport with visa stamp within a few days of getting approval from US government
