Deddy, I now live in NY, but grew up in Jamaica until i was 18yrs old. My granny in the country (Trelawny) use to add a bit of corned pork and sussumber berries to her Ackee and saltfish, it has been over 30 years but I can still taste her cooking.. Thank you🤘💕🙏🇯🇲🍍🥥🍈peace love always. Your family is awesome...love your channe.l

I agree with Studiorose. I've never seen salt fish and ackee boiled together. For some Jamaicans this is 'blasphemy!' 😆. It's all in the appearance and taste for me & I don't like to see the ackee too mash up 🙂

If you're using ackee in the can, I prefer just adding it directly to the saute pan. Boiling it makes it mushy. I think ackee and saltfish is better when the ackees can maintain more of their shape and integrity and not break down so much into tiny pieces. Interestingly enough, I prefer the saltfish to be in small pieces. Deddy, it still looked delicious!

Suggestion: keep a kettle of water on stove to replace water from salt fish. The use of cold water while cooking hardens the fish, and takes a longer time. I remember his wife cooking with hot water on hand to add to cooking pot.

Me too. I am from Brooklyn and I can remember having a Jamaican friend at around age 7 and her mother made a dish and it had spinner dumpling.I kept telling my mother I want the dumpling the Jamaican lady made. She kept making busquick dumpling(disgusting). It would be years later while ordering Jamaican food and asking and finding out what dumpling it was.And eventually learning to make my own from a friend.

Ive been meaning to make this for so long (partner has mentioned his love for it for 17 years LOL) , finally got around to making it - absolutely nailed it for him, bought back many childhood memories (of Jamaica and London). I loved it too, just have to find somewhere that I can buy ackee that is not so expensive (in Australia). I wonder if you could use normal fish instead of saltfish given that you need to boil the saltfish three times to remove the excess salt? I will definitely be making this. Thanks for all the amazing recipes and tips.

I love da da and mommy kitchen, I’ve never seen anyone throw the Ackee in with the boiling cod fish that was new to me I don’t think I would do it that way I would just rinse off my ackee and add it to my cod fish and veggies. But I always enjoy your cooking and personality👍🏾👍🏾💯
