A side note, the guy in the black white part being interviewed by police is Eric Estrada a television actor from the 80s, the woman on the bed is a trans woman by the name of Erica Strada.

Bless you for actually trying to break the lyrics down. You did better than I could for real. All I know is that the song sounds cool and the video is a buncha fun.

"they were doing it in Texas" might be referring to cult leader David Koresh and the siege on his compound in Waco, TX in 1993.
@0okamino7 күн бұрын
And this is about 3 years after that, so it certainly is possible. The band was also “doing it in Texas”, having formed in San Antonio, and Gibby Haynes himself being originally from Dallas.

This album was pretty radio friendly for Butthole Surfers, they were wild live, vocalist Gibby Haynes was certainly one of the crazier music artists of their time, they had some great album titles like Locust Abortion Technician, Hairway to Steven and Electriclarryland

I was stationed in Korea in the '90s, and this song came on everyday during the Rock hour on armed forces radio, and it was funny to hear how each DJ tried to give the band's name without saying it. Apparently it was not authorized to say it.

Hey veteran, I served in Korea too! Back in 84, stationed in itawon which was in Seoul.

@kathybwell Hey! I did three tours at Kunsan AB '86-'87, '92-'93, and '96-'97. If you didn't like your stateside base, you could volunteer for Korea and be gone quick.

There was a Hippie style revival in the 90's that reflected in the clothing, movies like Austin Powers, and music. This song and Love Shack, Groove is in the Heart, etc. Low rise hip hugger bell bottom pants and such were back in fashion. I always loved the psychedelic sound. Then going into Grunge was an easy transition.

I like your take on this song, from one of the most absurd, lsd soaked, Texas psychedelic, nonsensical and deep, true and pure mayhem and psychotic gun shootin', experimental mental, surreal satirical lunatic bands of all time!

This is about people they knew. The "nasty virus"=AIDS. This is from the album "Electric Larryland" a play on Jimi Hendrix' "Electric Ladyland". The lead singer had a side band called P which at one point had Johnny Depp on Bass. P was also (allegedly) the band that was playing when River Phoenix died at The Viper Room. Their earlier music was more noise rock with the singer using a megaphone.
@3DJapan9 күн бұрын
I don't know P but I know the song Friends of P by The Rentals.

I saw them twice, Atlanta and NYC. The NYC show was in an old theater and a complete blast of a mosh pit. Everyone just smoking and drinking in the audience chairs and then just diving in when necessary. Too much fun that night, and we got stopped going back through Jersey; off with a warning lol!

As a huge Butthole Surfers fan since the early 80's this was when they jumped the shark. This song is a half-assed, patchworked, pinched loaf version of the Nails song "88 Lines About 44 Women" with a new chorus grafted on. They were on fumes from Pioughd but this was the last nail in their creative coffin.

Their name comes from outdoor concerts when you slide down a grassy/muddy hill on your ass, 'butthole surfing' - thus The Butthole Surfers. Why, what were you thinking?.....lol I agree this may not be the best name for a band, but you will remember them.

So many great BH surfers albums. The album this one is from is a bit lighter than most. Yeah the band names a bit unfortunate, but I think that's the point of it

Look back into the earlier Butthole Surfers catalog to get the whole Butthole Surfers experience. They're incredibly original. This song is waaaaaaay more commercial than their earlier stuff.

Their name is not really profane, is it? I guess. But I think these profane words are sort of needed. Because the language is under fire these days. The online platforms are forbidding so many words. It is not ok and it contributes to ignorance and secrecy in my opinion. Buttholes Surfers are legends. Their shows and records are inspiring, and the free expression without limits or conformity. And most of their songs are weirder than Pepper IMO, peace
