To me being burnt out is still really wanting to do something but a big part of your mind saying, “No!” Feeling like “failed” but mentally too tired to do anything. I did do some research on it for a psychology report. It said, something like, the exceptions outweighs the rewards and that’s why people get burned out.” Something like that but up above is what burnout is to me.

Burnt out is when you dread something you want to do. Bad dread, where it hurts to even think about doing it.

Just started Uni, 6 weeks in on an engineering degree and I was determined to be on top of everything, fresh start and everything. I wasn’t prepared and was absolutely swamped by it all. Now heading into the second half of my teaching block, I’m reviewing my whole study schedule to avoid the same mistakes

Hey I also teach this (I teach therapists mindfulness skills and therapists are VERY prone to burnout) and I've found there are 2 core ideas that are game changing: 1. is Equanimity, which is not fighting against our inner experience. It's this counter-intuitive truth that resisting discomfort just leads to more inner conflict and actually amplifies the discomfort. It just creates more reactivity. Accepting discomfort and actually opening to it, welcoming the experience fully, actually reduces reactivity and makes the experience easier / smoother. Equanimity is one of the core things that we train in meditation. 2. is compassion, instead of putting up walls, or empathizing (adopting the feelings of others) actively cultivating compassion actually protects against "compassion fatigue" (empathetic burnout). The reason is you're cultivating your own energy and directing it outwards, instead of empathizing/adopting the distress of others (mirror neurons can be stressful). There are a ton of studies backing up this approach now.

Ok, this guy never experienced a burnout. When tying your shoes becomes an overwhelming task; when you need to sit down and take a moment to pull yourself back together multiple times for the easiest task; when you breakdown the moment someone asks you ''what do you want''. That is a burnout. These people have no experience with this topic
