Yep.. I agree as well. It’s good that she’s doing better in her life now, but the elderly person that she victimized still carries the pain of having a precious item stolen from her. An engagement ring means she probably had it for many years, and it undoubtedly represented cherished memories for her. I don’t think this woman even tried to see if she might be able to recover the ring.. She’s trying to say she doesn’t remember how much she pawned it for, knowing that would only add to the despicable nature of her crime. Let her stay on probation, as the judge says. At least she’s not incarcerated..The woman who had her ring stolen will carry the pain with her long after this thief will have forgotten all about it.

She's not being punished for doing good....she got punished for doing bad. Stealing from elderly. Just because she isn't overtly doing bad right now, doesn't mean her probation should be terminated. In 1990 I caught an armed robbery charge in Mississippi. I had a public defender who negotiated 5-year mandatory sentence. I went behind her back and talked to the DA and actually negotiated it down to 3 years mandatory. All armed robbery is mandatory time in Mississippi. I was a very unusual inmate because apparently I was the only guilty person in Parchman. That 3 years was probably the best thing that ever happened to me. It opened my eyes really quick. I got out in 93 and I have had two traffic tickets since then. My rap partner had a good lawyer. He got 18 months probation. He didn't learn his lesson. A few years later apparently he went out with somebody else and committed a couple more robberies. Now he's sitting in the MDOC with 15 mandatory for the first robbery, 30 mandatory for the second robbery and life without because they hit him with the bitch. All of it consecutive. That means that if he does get reincarnated, he's got to come back and do 45 more years.

As far as the eyelash girl, if she had said, "Your Honor, I followed up with the pawn shop to see if they could contact the buyer of that ring to see if he would be willing to bring it back. If he ate some ramen noodles and quit blowing all of his money on pot he might have been able to afford it. Eventually he might even make something of himself if he stuck with that and put that money toward training some blue collar skill or trade. But no, staying home, ordering pizza, and ripping that bong is more comfortable. Why set and achieve goals for true happiness and wellbeing when you can have instant gratification? Hell, even if somehow he couldn’t come up with the money, just take out one of those scummy quick cash loans for a 30%APR.
