Other fighting games do fun things with blocking too: You can *just defend* in Garou and CVS2 by pressing back with precise timing In DOA you can *counter attacks* by pressing the hold (guard) button and a forward direction The MVC series had *push block* which pushed the opponent away and gave you space by hitting two punch buttons while in blockstun. DBFZ had a variation of this mechanic with its *reflect* move You can *roll* through attacks entirely in the KOF series Always neat to see how a new fighting game adds its own spin to the concept of defense. Never had a preference between b2b or block button for the longest time but some fighting games are pestered with ridiculously braindead crossups and with an inclusion of a block button almost always comes an advanced form of movement, not just an automatic crossup protection. Needless to say I still play on pad and prefer a button although still dont dislike b2b as long as the game doesnt turn out as a stiff contest of who can knock the opponent down first, which is why I personally like Tekken a lot. I would also mention that the widespread saying of how MK(X) is an overhead low fiesta is mostly a rumour (only few true 50/50 characters exist and only two-three of them are high tier one of which being a grappler) and focus much more on zoning, setplay and block pressure for most of the cast which was adjusted in mk11 for a bigger focus on movement, neutral, strike/throw and very strong universal defensive options. I mean uhh..nrs bad amirite

Honestly I believe more people should play on stick or hit box. Arcade Sticks are amazing. I played fighting games for a decade on controllers which had many fundamental issues I didn't know about until I got my stick and after MANY of them broke. Controllers are a scam. Break them and you're buying a new one for 60 or 70 bucks. 5 broke on me during Soulcalibur, MK10, Dead or Alive, Guilty Gear Rev 2. I didn't throw or smash any of them. My Quanba Arcade stick is still going strong for 3 years. Freed me from all my issues in fighting games.
