Gwyn was a very intriguing figure. He was a lord that conquered not simply with swords, but with sweet and convenient lies. He was a great warrior, but an even greater schemer. And while all of his story would lead you to believe him an evil man, was he really? Would a tyrant ever sacrifice his own life for the sake of his land, of his people? Gwyn was not evil, per say. He didn't make his schemes and shackle the dark just out of a desire to preserve his power and authority, he did it because he genuinely thought it was the right thing. He believed the dark was evil, and his curses were not unwarranted cruelty, but a necessary sacrifice to protect the light.

Yeah, Gwyn is basically the catalyst of the whole series. I would like to recommend Story of the Ringed City parts 1 and 2. They cover stuff from all 3 games about the most important dlc's that essentially conclude the series. Both parts add up to roughly just below 32 minutes. Also pay attention to Gael's arena. Imagine how many cycles the world has been burned to make the world like this.

Vaati's Prepare to Cry videos are all fantastic, but if I would recommend one in particular for next time, definitely go for Children of Chaos (Prepare to Cry Remastered version especially). That one really hits you in the feels.

I find it funny that to stop the arrival of the Dark Lord of the prophecy, Gwyn linked the fire, starting the wave of events that would eventually produce Gael, who is essentially the closest thing in the world of Dark Souls to the Dark Lord, in the end, all his efforts were in vain.

The lore of Dark Souls is difficult to find in-game, but it's quite interesting and can lead one into some deep thinking. The gods and their use of light made me think about "what if" regarding something similar to real life religion: Christianity. Gwyn used the light to trick the Pygmies into believing light was nothing but good. Christianity, and other religions, has done the same, despite bloody wars fought in the name of God. I think Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki definitely drew inspiration from real life events when developing the lore of Dark Souls.

Thank you for reacting I know it's kind hard to understand but gwyn was scared of the dark and was afraid too lose it all so everytime someone sacrificed themselves to the Fire the world would keep going and the more it keeps going the more distorted it gets and that's the ugliness of Imortality of it never ends

The thing with darkness and light is how... misunderstood it can sometimes be, with darksouls. As with life. Think about dark feelings, like revenge or anger. Obviously, these can be perceived as 'bad' in a way. But these dark emotions can also fuel good things. It can make somebody passionate.

The problem is when one feels like they can only be passionate through anger or revenge. Darkness is in all of us. It’s how we respond to it. If we succumb to it. And that is our Snapple Cap philosophy of the day 🤗😊

@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames I was just trying to think on the spot of an example for dark and light being more blurry, which the souls series always likes to remind you of. Through out thr entire series, the 'age of fire' is always implied to be kind of unnatural, in a way. Gwyn defied the way of the world to create the age of fire, but the world always seems to tend threaten to let the fire die out. Hence, why there's always a need for some lord of cinder to burn away their soul, as kindling for the age of fire. While trying to perpeuate his age, Gwyn and the gods more or less just become huge dicks to everybody else. Let alone those born in darkness, humans.

Great reaction! As for sugestion for the next Prepare to Cry - I highly recommend checking out "The Demon Astraea". It's from Demon Souls, not Dark Souls - but the story itself is self sufficient and doesn't need any DeS lore knowledge. It's probably the saddest in Souls games.

Elden Ring is the first in the series not to be predicated on a "comfortable lie"... for the Lords Themselves are the one caught in the lies this time, and very few of them have the will to break free, for the cost of the Lords agreeing to serve the various "fictions of factions" is literally world-breaking, as we see in the various endings.

I'm not sure if you guys take recommendations, but I highly recommend reacting to "Attempting to explain all of Kirby lore in a single video" as it really shines a light on how surprisingly deep Kirby gets sometimes. As well as the Starter Squad series. It's a Pokémon parody series with some great writing that gets better as the series goes on like DBZ Abridged. It's still ongoing, but who knows when the next episode will be.

Gwyn was a cowardly asshole, he was so afraid that someone or something apart from him could flourish that he immediately destroyed, imprisoned, manipulated or exiled everything he felt is or in most cases just maybe could be a threat to his age of fire That's why I never linked the fire in any Dark Souls game, the sooner it ends, the better, screw Gwyn 😀
