@Maryam Abdullah correction. Shias follow Ali as because Shias follow Muhammad saw because Shias follow Allah SWT. And Muhammad saw and Allah SWT told us that Ali is out master after Allah SWT and Muhammad saw. Sunnies, on the other hand, say that the prophet (while delusional, as per Umars words) delusionally told Abu Bakr to lead the prayers. @be my friend there is truth to what you’re saying and it makes sense. However, we can’t just go based off of the Quran alone. There are things not mentioned in the Quran but mentioned in hadiths. But at the same time we can’t only reply on hadiths because there are things not mentioned in hadiths that are mentioned in the Quran. However, not every hadith should be taken as 100% accurate, but rather with a grain of salt and see if logically they make sense or if they seem like they have been made up. The Mahdi point is correct because it’s not only Muslims that believe it (shia and sunnis) but also Christians and Jews. They believe in the “messiah” or “saviour”, which to us is basically the Mahdi.

In the book titled "Aal e Rasool say Bughz kyun" by Syed Muhammad Jawwad Mehri. In that book, the author showed a remarkable thing that opened my mind. He first mentioned the following verse 36 from Surah Tuba: إِنَّ عِدَّةَ الشُّهُورِ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ اثْنَا عَشَرَ شَهْرًا فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ مِنْهَا أَرْبَعَةٌ حُرُمٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ الدِّينُ الْقَيِّمُ ۚ فَلَا تَظْلِمُوا فِيهِنَّ أَنْفُسَكُمْ ۚ وَقَاتِلُوا الْمُشْرِكِينَ كَافَّةً كَمَا يُقَاتِلُونَكُمْ كَافَّةً ۚ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الْمُتَّقِينَ {36 [Shakir 9:36] Surely the number of months with Allah is twelve months in Allah's ordinance since the day when He created the heavens and the earth, of these four being sacred; that is the right reckoning; therefore be not unjust to yourselves regarding them, and fight the polytheists all together as they fight you all together; and know that Allah is with those who guard (against evil). The author then mentions that here the word الشُّهُورِ is used which is taken from "shehr" which is a singular form and it has two meanings in Arabic language one is: "Month" and another is "Knowledgeable man or wise ". The author says that the plural which is used in this verse is "الشُّهُورِ " is actually also used by Hazrat Abu Talib a.s, the uncle of Prophet PBUHHP and father of Imam Ali a.s, in the context of "Wise men" and not in the context of "months" in his poetry. Second argument which he gives is that if "الشُّهُورِ" means month than what about the other verses where "أَشْهُرٍ" is used as months and not "الشُّهُورِ" one of this example is as follows from the surah Tauba verse 2: فَسِيحُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّكُمْ غَيْرُ مُعْجِزِي اللَّهِ ۙ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ مُخْزِي الْكَافِرِينَ {2} [Shakir 9:2] So go about in the land for four months and know that you cannot weaken Allah and that Allah will bring disgrace to the unbelievers. The author further says that the above verse 36 should have been translated as: [Shakir 9:36] Surely the number of wise men (Imams) with Allah is twelve knowledgeable men in Allah's ordinance since the day when He created the heavens and the earth, of these four being sacred (Due to their name being after the name of Allah that are Imam Ali a.s, Imam Ali Zainul Abideen, Imam Ali Reza a.s and Imam Ali Naqi a.s as Ali is name of Allah so one should not exaggerate or look down upon those names); that is the right reckoning; therefore be not unjust to yourselves regarding them, and fight the polytheists all together as they fight you all together; and know that Allah is with those who guard (against evil).

1) Isn't imamat leadership? if leaders must be named in quran to be followed then why didn't Allah swt name the ululamr, whom u should obey the same way you obey the Prophet pbuh. (quran 4:59). Who else would be the representative of Allah swt on earth in absence of Rasulullah (saw) other than the ululamr? Can Sunnis name the uluamr from the quran? So why do they expect the shias to name the 12 imams from quran who are in fact the ululamr? 2. All the 124000 Prophets were also infallible and khalifas of Allah swt on earth, why aren't they all named in the quran? 3. This was a monumental point about imam Mahdi (as) not being in the Qur'an. Furthermore if you can find from Sunni sources that imam Mahdi (as) will lead Nabi Isa (as) in namaz, this can be a good evidence for proving that the imams are higher rank than the previous prophets. Hijab always evades the question of how Sunnis justify their leadership system. He never even states his own beliefs and hides behind there being a difference of opinion! The word "Shi’a”means "followers; members of party". As such, the term "Shi’a”alone has no negative or positive meaning unless we specify the leader of the party. If one is a Shi’a (follower) of the most righteous servants, then there is nothing wrong with being Shi’a, specially if the leader of such party has been assigned by Allah. On the other hand, if one becomes the Shi’a a tyrant or a wrong-doer, he shall meet with the fate of his leader. In fact, Qur’an indicates that on the day of Judgment people will come in groups, and each group has its leader in front of it. Allah, to whom belong Might and Majesty, said: One day We shall call every group of people by their respective Imams. (Qur’an 17:71) In the day of judgment, the destiny of the "followers”of each group highly depends on the destiny of his Imam (provided that they really followed that Imam). Allah mentioned in Qur’an that there are two types of Imams. Some Imams are those who invite people to Hell fire. They are tyrannical leaders of each era (like Pharaoh, etc.): And We made them (but) Imams inviting to the Fire; and on the Day of Judgment no help shall they find. In this world We continued to curse them; and on the Day of Judgment they will be among the hateful. (Qur’an 28:41-42). Certainly, being the members of the parties of such Satanic Imams has been severely denounced in Qur’an, and the followers of such parties will meet the fate of their leaders. However, Qur’an also reminds that there are Imams who are appointed by Allah as Guides for the mankind: "And We assigned from among them some Imams who GUIDE by Our authority since they were patient and believed firmly in Our Signs.”(Qur’an 32:24) Certainly, the true followers (Shi’a) of these Imams will be the real prosperous on the day of resurrection. Thus being a Shi’a does not mean anything, unless we know the Shi’a of whom. Allah mentioned in Qur’an that Some of His righteous servants were Shi’a of His other righteous servants. An example was Prophet Abraham who was mentioned in Qur’an specifically as the Shi’a of Noah:

After the death of the holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his immaculate progeny), Muslims had two options for seeking guidance from; the holy ahlulbayt (family) of the holy Prophet. Others. The ahlulbayt are those family members of the holy Prophet who grew up in his blessed lap. Islam, Qur'an and the Shari'ah was revealed in their house. The angels descended with the blessings and mercy of Allah into their house. Muslims are obligated to send blessings upon not only their Prophet but also his holy progeny in their namaz/daily prayers/salat. The holy Qur'an testifies of their purity, infallibility and perfection. The holy Prophet left behind him the holy Qur'an and his ahlulbayt. The ahlulbayt are the inheritors of the holy Prophet's knowledge, wisdom and characteristics. They are the best examples and role models after the holy Prophet. The holy Prophet loved them the most and they loved him the most. Who can understand Islam, Qur'an, Shari'ah, the sunnah of the holy Prophet and so on better than the people of the house? This is why the Shi'as follow the ahlulbayt and none else. As regards to the others, we are not sure of the state of their iman, source of their knowledge, information and understanding of Islam. The truth of the matter is that the vast majority of Muslims are victims of prejudice, brainwashing, ignorance and misconceptions when it comes to the school of the ahlulbayt.
