It's the trump supporters in a hard state of denial. I mean, after all of this (especially the last week) you'd have to be to even think about supporting him. I've been saying this for months now but I still can't find one level headed supporter of the guy. I guess it really just speaks to the overall education of this country sadly. And before one of them gets on me about supporting Hilary let me say this. I don't like her. In fact, I'm pretty mad that she managed to beat out all the other democrats. But honestly, when it comes down to it, in November we'll have two choices. A liar who at least knows what she's talking about or a bigot who literally has the mentality of a 12 year old. I'm sorry, but the choice is clear there and I refuse to support a bigot. I think these are the worst two candidates in a loooong time, but Trump is clearly the worser evil and Oliver gets that. American power elites do not, and have never, represented us (the average Americans). I don't like that the rest of the world thinks this is how we are. What makes America great is not our military, or empty words from politicians. It's the average person, and the combination of different cultures and ideas that has given birth to too many great things to list.

Because there have been tens of thousands of Muslims who've died for the U.S.'s goals, while only thousands of American non-Muslims have done the same in modern times. Tell me the number of Muslims who died fighting to liberate Iraq because the U.S. invaded and executed its leader and deposed its other leadership, giving rise to ISIS which is now killing even more Muslims than ever before all because of American imperialism. You'll find that the numbers don't really compare.

Dreigonix After Billy had a private talk with the US Attorney General promising her that she could keep her position if she got the charges dropped. The FBI director outside said she was guilty but tried to say that she didn't mean it therefore it is okay as his reason for dropping the charges. Her outright lying under oath (a federal offense), criminal negligence, and all that fun stuff were just brushed under the rug. Bitch should be locked up, but "too big to fail" applies to banks and corrupt cunts riding the coattails of their husband (Who had some other chick riding him on the side) and committing every kind of fraud imaginable to feed her lust for power. Nikhil Kulkarni Tax returns and 30,000 emails which are among a large collection of emails on an illegal private server which contained classified information are two different things there bub. He's a politician, business man, and reality TV show actor. You shouldn't expect him to be nice to people who are attacking him. Because of his toupee, obviously Why do you gloss over Hilary's when pointing out Trump's? It is because Trump's faults aren't my topic just like Clinton's wasn't yours. If we wanted to talk about faults, we could ask how Trump is racist for wanting a wall on the soutehrn border but Hilary wanted a "fence" doesn't seem to make her a racist (I guess a "fence" and a "wall" are two TOTALLY different things aren't they)? We could ask why Hilary is taking in millions from countries where homosexuality is literally illegal and punishable by prison time (or even death)? There is a lot of things we could ask, but yet no one does because she has a vagina (and Victoria Woodhull would really appreciate it if the Clinton cucks would stop claiming Shilary is the first female presidential candidate, Victoria did it in the 1870's so over 140 years before HiLIARy came around).

Bc some people felt the Republicans were too 'weak', the democrats tried to force Hillary into the presidency despite all of her issues. Third party candidates never get anywhere. So the majority of people felt they had to choose: "Crooked Hillary" or Trump the business man. I think the people who voted for Trump didn't vote for the man, but for the ideas he pretended to have. He wasn't a politician, he was a businessman. Good businessmen know how to hire intelligent people skilled in various skills. They also are good at making deals. He could fix the economy, shove out corrupt politicians, and bring jobs back to the US. So, go for a known politician who has a checkered past, go for the non-politician who promised to fix what was broken, or try a third party candidate in protest of the corrupt two party system bc both those candidates are crap?

You know what? I'm tired. I'm tired of this election. It's completely asinine how long and tedious our presidential campaigns are. Why couldn't we just have an 8-week campaign like England or Canada? But, no. We have to have a year and a half of speeches, rants, conventions, drama, insults, biases, and bullshit. I want this election to just be over with. And you know what else? I want this show to be fun again. I loved seeing John take on FIFA, save the internet in 2013, and make fun of any news source that fucked up. Now? "Last Week Tonight" has pretty much devolved into "Let's Talk About How Much Trump Sucks Tonight". And before all you hardcore leftists and SJWs start spamming and labeling me as a stupid Trump supporter, let me make this clear: I am not a fan of Trump. He's a clown and could easily end up becoming one of our worst presidents if elected. But Hillary is no saint either. Yet people seem to cheer for her like she the messiah of America. They hardly acknowledge her crimes and mistakes. I wouldn't mind John's constant mentions of Trump if he equally mentioned Hillary's blunders but he never does. He's barely said anything negative about Hillary and when he does it isn't too long before he moves along to bash Trump some more. You can bash Trump all you want John but stop giving Hillary a free pass! There's no denying that we have two shitty candidates to pick from...if you focus solely on the Republican and Democratic parties. John, why not offer your support for the Libertarian Party or the Green Party? I've seen you offer up alternative solutions before, John. Why not *GASP* suggest that we move away from the 2-Party system and allow some others political parties to come into play? The Republican and Democratic parties have failed America this election. Sure, the Libertarians had a few mess ups as well but nothing nowhere NEAR the level of the Republicans and Democrats. But, no. It's clear who's getting John's vote this November: Hillary Fucking Clinton. And I won't be surprised if Clinton ends up winning...but I still hope that Trump wins. GASP! Why is that? It's clear that we're still stuck in the Republican v. Democratic bullshit and no Libertarian, Green, or even an Independent will be stepping into the Oval Office anytime soon. If I can't hope for them, then I can hope for the candidate that will give me the most satisfaction. And why is that? Trump is what America, and more specifically the leftists, deserves. Trump is a monster that was created by the actions of the regressive left. The SJWs, the feminazis, the biased mainstream media, the leftists who are incapable of accepting any flaws with the Democratic Party, the left that wants to fight against free speech. You all created the monster that is Trump, and you all deserve to have him knock your goddess Hillary off her pedestal. I want to be given the satisfaction in knowing that, with his presidency, every leftist will be left dumbstruck. Every SJW will trigger with fear. Every egotistical Democratic asshat will be put in their place by the beast they gave birth to. We saw it happen with Brexit, and now it can happen again with Trump. I want to make it clear that I'm Independent, so I'm as middle of the road as you can get. But this is what this three-ringed circus of a presidential race has turned me into. I've become Heath Ledger's Joker. I just want to watch the world burn with the fear spurred by potential President Trump. Because that's what we all deserve. The idiots on the right. The imbeciles on the left. We created this. We allowed this to happen. And, John, I get a feeling that you may be jinxing yourself with the constant shots at Trump. Your video on Brexit was followed immediately by the UK's decision to leave the EU. History could very much repeat itself. Again, I hate both candidates and I won't be surprised if Hillary wins. But if Trump wins, I will gleefully smile and laugh knowing that, at least, we will all be miserable together...

You have a very well-written post here, but I'm going to address one part: Your comment on election length. I'm a Canadian citizen, and honestly I wish our elections were as long as yours are. When you have election campaigns that last over a year, you learn EVERYTHING there is to know about your candidates. They get grilled, torn apart, and examined under a fucking microscope, and that is exactly what you want. You want to actually know and understand who you're voting for. You want to know every scandal. You want to understand every policy. You want to know everything. Our recent election was 11 weeks; the longest in over a hundred years, as I recall. I don't think that was long enough. There was so much despicable shit I didn't hear about Trudeau until after he was elected that I would have liked to have known sooner. Consider yourself fortunate that your elections are as long as they are. You actually get a chance to get to know your candidates thoroughly.

I do think the campaigns are to long. Apparently from what I have seen people have been preparing for this for a couple of years. The only reason why we have heard about this election so much is because one nominee is a corrupt criminal politician and the other is a racist screaming orange. The reason he doesn't cover Hillary so much is because she understands when to speak and what to say when she does. Trump will go on a Twitter tirade when he feels like and he gets called out on the majority of the things he says.

As a non-American, I don't really understand, what was wrong with Bernie Sanders, why did he not make it to the final stage? Too old? Between Hillary and Trump the choice seems obvious, but frankly Hillary kinda scares me a bit. There's something off about her, like she is trying way to hard, or I don't know... Sometimes she has this weird look. Michelle Obama, unlike her, seems so positively and sincerely confident and generally more inspiring trust, as a person.

He basically got shafted by the DNC who was supporting Hillary as their selection from the get go, with the super delegates winning it for her and fixing it for her from the get go. A shit ton of us preferred Bernie, he literally represented everything the antithesis of trump. Fix the prison industrial complex, reassess mandatory minimum sentences, have universal health care like the rest of the planet, fix education and debt.. Conservatives never complain about having a military budget higher than the rest of the world combined, but suggest spending .0002 of that towards education and health and they shit themselves. He was honest, genuine, sincere.. would have been scientifically minded since the right is literally the only party on the planet ignoring climate change and he wasn't just blatantly supporting the plutocracy. A lot of ignorant Americans with no concept of economical knowledge are brainwashed into seeing socialism as an evil concept even though our firemen and police are literally provided free through 'socialism' by our taxes.

@cliftonkid7 жыл бұрын
Now now Kevin, no need to get cross. It must be painful for you to completely miss the point so thoroughly but there's really no need to lash out like that. At the time that this episode of LWT was produced Donald Trump wasn't failing in the presidential duty of comforting the families of recently fallen soldiers, because he wasn't the president yet, and because he wasn't trying to comfort them - rather he was fighting back against attacks they'd made against him, while paying no regard to the suffering they'd been through, hence Oliver's accusation of sociopathy. What was happening a few weeks ago when I left that comment was exactly what Oliver was saying he feared could happen - President Trump had to undertake the task of speaking to and consoling the widow of a deceased soldier, and he royally bungled it. I understood that line I quoted to be a prediction of specific, future events. You could interpret what Oliver said differently, which I would understand, or you could argue that those two failings are very similar, but I won't concede they're identical. As for whether I am a Fucking idiot and whether I understand what a prophetic statement is, how about I make one by way of a demonstration? It's no fucking choice at all. Choosing between Hillary and Trump is like choosing between a bullet in the face and two bullets in the face.
@shelbylongbottom58657 жыл бұрын
+Uthman Baksh Ways the primaries were rigged: 1. John Podesta asked White House to not let Sanders GMO bill go through (would make him look good) 2. "Neutral" DNC pitched stories to the media trying to smear Sanders (For example, Debbie Wasserman Schultz lying (with many MSNBC hosts, especially Rachel Maddow) about chairs being thrown in Nevada. 3. Debbie Wasserman Schultz trying to bury debates at times when no one would watch them (like on the Saturday before Christmas) so fewer people would be able to hear Sanders vs. Clinton 4. Hillary Clinton's campaign meeting with Barack Obama's administration, trying to get him to endorse her before the Illinois primary 5. Email around DNC of them strategizing to smear Sanders as an atheist before midwest primaries (from Wikileaked emails) 6. Hillary Clinton campaign clearly breaking Super Pac coordination laws while DNC looks the other way 7. DNC having strategy documents to boost Hillary Clinton to media before any other candidates were announced 8. Donna Brazile revealing how the Hillary Clinton campaign had such a stranglehold on the DNC budget 9. Donna Brazile giving Hillary Clinton debate questions before a primary debate 10. The media displaying a clear bias toward Clinton for multitude of reasons 11. Rachel Maddow and Chris Matthews barely asking any questions of substance when it comes to Clinton while trying their hardest to rake Sanders over the coals in their interviews 12. Hillary Clinton campaign manager directing Debbie Wasserman Schultz on DNC hires before Clinton announced she was running Note: In many of these instances, it was the DNC chair, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, displaying a clear bias toward Clinton. However, in the DNC charter and bylaws (Article 5, Section 4) it states that "...the Chairperson shall exercise impartiality and evenhandedness as between the Presidential candidates and campaigns. The Chairperson shall be responsible for ensuring that the national officers and staff of the Democratic National Committee maintain impartiality and evenhandedness during the Democratic Party Presidential nominating process." Many of the people in the DNC did not show impartiality and evenhandedness, especially not Debbie Wasserman Schultz. I can't claim that if these things didn't happen, Sanders would 100% have won. That's impossible to know. However, what's important is that these things should've been fair and in accordance with the rules of the DNC charter and bylaws, and the reason everyone is getting so upset is because it isn't. Stop diluting yourself.
@shelbylongbottom58657 жыл бұрын
+Uthman Baksh And it's not like he could viably run third-party. We all know that's bound to fail. Remember the debate in 2012 when Jill Stein was running and a Green Party candidate? They handcuffed her to a chair during the debate because she wanted to participate in democracy. Remember Ralph Nader and how he was blamed for Al Gore's loss? How he's still blamed? Sanders clearly didn't want to have to deal with that bullshit and I can see why. He wanted to participate in democracy, but not by following the same establishment rules everyone else does. True democracy is dead in America.

During the 2015 Federal election in Canada, where there is a multi party system, because most of Canada was trying to oust Stephen Harper and his party, Conservative Party of Canada. Everyone had to vote strategically to the most likely winning party in their district, which will win the party seats, which will stack up and get the Prime Minister nominee for any party that is not the Conservative Party of Canada win. That was the goal, US should have the same mind set now that it has come to this. Bernie supporters did not go out and vote in the primaries and whatever medalling that happened, it sucks, but not the time to throw the tantrum. Because Donald Trump supporters believe more strongly that he can "fix" the system than the people on the left does with Hilary. Not enough people are going to vote third party to do anything but help Donald Trump win. Send letters to your senators about your grievances after the Democratic party secure the presidency.

HBO and it's parent company are HUGE (YUUUUGGGEEEE) corporate owners.. errr, donors, of shillary 2. john maybe several videos in this vein, prior to this point, lambasting Bernie, claiming shillary was a "better" candidate, and covering up the DNC scandal that proved they anointed the evil one and tipped the scales in its favor, directly working against Bernie. They even followed it up with a "fuck 3rd parties or party reform, just suck it up and fall in line" video to try to push shillary on the millennial crowd she actively snubbed.. John oliver is generally fairly even handed, but you could tell he was clearly following the corporate sell out orders, and it's frustrating.

Tenshi Chan John Oliver would, in no way, put up with being told to support a certain candidate. He isn't from the US and his impression of the US election right now is that Hillary is the best option. And that's likely because Bernie was beaten.
@Zzyzzyzzs7 жыл бұрын
I get gobsmacked when people look at what Donald Trump is and still say that opposition to him is "liberal bias". You don't have to be "liberal" to hate what the man is and stands for. Next to the extreme right-wingers he dog-whistles to (and tacitly supports, as was made clear by his "fine people on both sides" speech), anyone is "liberal" by comparison. The word has been so tainted by the effects of this election that it basically has no meaning anymore. It's not "liberal" to identify the qualities you hate about a candidate and decide to oppose him, even if it means standing in opposition to what was traditionally a "conservative" party. It just means you're a decent person who can't believe any majority party, in such a developed country as the USA, could choose to stand behind such a terrible person and elect them to the most powerful position in government. And it certainly wasn't senseless to point this out 6-12 months before the election, when it was clear that they were traipsing down a very dark path and people needed to do everything in their power to stop it. You could not and cannot be "neutral" about someone like Donald Trump; being neutral means you're at best unsure about someone who has shown incredible ineptness, ego and lack of heart. This is like asking you to think the same way about your grade school teacher as you would a serial killer, in the interests of "fairness". You physically cannot do it and remain rational.

Not taking anything from the soldier, but he impacted what 2? 4? 10 lives by giving his own. A truly heroic thing no doubt. Trump created jobs for thousands of people. That's thousands of people who were able to put some food on the table because of his actions, regardless of how he was able to do them. He enabled some bread winners to be heroes to their wives, children, and families. Stop being so single threaded and think outside the fucking box.

Pence would be given all the power and he voted on Iraq. Trump's unconstitutional proposals: (26 pages) action.aclu.org/sites/default/files/pages/trumpmemos.pdf Hillary's "unconstitutional" proposals: take away semi-automatic rifles - still allow hunting rifles and handguns - and put suspected terrorists on a temporary list allowing them not to buy weapons.

I’m no speech pathologist, but I am a trained singer… and if I’m not mistaken, I think President Biden might raise his voice so much when he’s speaking publicly because it’s a stutter control practice. You can’t stutter when you sing because of the placement and projection required. Mr. President, if that’s what you’re doing, that’s cool as heck!
