I took accutane over a decade ago and while it was an *experience* lol the results were incredible. I had debilitating cycstic acne before but after I finished my round of accutane my skin practically glows. If I had to do it over again, I would 100% make the same choice.

I am on Accutane currently and I got angular cheilitis in the corners of my lips from it. I now put athletes foot cream in the corners and it has worked WONDERS! I highly recommend that for anyone who as dry cracked corners of the mouth.

I used cortisone which works but I am also struggling with my ears cracking/peeling and my nose is clogged I thought I had a sinus infection the whole time just for me to realize my mucus lining is just cracking off causing bleeding (I live in colorado dry climate). I also feel extremely tired. The problem is my face looks great! So I am conflicted about going down on my dosage.

both of my sons have run through courses of accurate. Dry lips was definitely a main symptom. One preferred Vaseline, the other Aquaphor. My oldest used Renee Rouleau skin recovery lotion at night and ZO skin hydrating cream during the day. The ZO I had leftover from a laser treatment for myself and he really liked it. One was much more sensitive about the look of being so dry (he also took during the school year). The other didn't care as much, he happened to run his course during the summer. Dry nose was a bit of an issue but not too bad. The oldest swabbed a little Vaseline in his nose at night and felt that helped a lot. Both have beautiful skin (face, back & shoulders) now and would agree that a few annoying months were well worth it. As a side note, they also have much less oily hair than before. Oiliness has not yet returned. Now that they both have such beautiful skin I'm working really hard to get them on daily sunscreen. I've won with the oldest (he's a bit more vain) still working on the younger one.

I have a weird confession that I have to make. I noticed that each day I’m closer and closer to turning into Dr Dray. I’m completely serious... 2 years ago I wasn’t drinking coffee, I did not use sunscreen and vegetables were a no no to me. I was a typical teenager ( smoking, drinking, partying). Right now I’m starting my day with a huge cup of coffee, I eat a lot of vegetables, I became vegan, I reapply sunscreen multiple times a day, I wear sun protective clothing and I even wear those headbands that Dr Dray often wears, not to mention that I’m a huge introvert. I even started to realize that I want to become a dermatologist... Anyways, I don’t complain about that because I feel much better with this kind of lifestyle, so thank u Dr Dray for making me a better version of myself:)

I’m soooo glad I didn’t shy away from accutane. It was a rough 6 months, but it was so worth it. Had terrible adult female acne pop up out of nowhere in my mid 30s. Accutane not only got rid of it, but I swear has reversed aged me at least 10 years.

Thank u for taking the time to talk about iPledge and the problems with it. It was such a barrier for me (almost 1 full year of having issues getting on it because of this/my obgyn who is so old school). It’s also awful because the program insinuates those who might get pregnant would carry it! Not the case all of the time. I’m someone who can get pregnant, I don’t want to, I make sure I won’t but obvi it could happen, if it did, I wouldn’t keep it. That’s me. But I still had to jump through hurdles getting on it and dealing with issues with different forms of birth control. Sigh.

When my acne was at it´s worst it made me depressed and reclusive....It is not only painful but also exhausting when you have to try a million different cremes that work for a while and then don´t. Only people that have had acne will understand...Currently on low dose accutane, so far I do love it...no extreme side effects...

I’m glad you mentioned a fatigue. I’ve been sleeping nonstop since I started. And as far as the back pain/muscle pain and headaches, it’s nearly unbearable. Yes, I am very active and athletic. But my pain is an eight out of 10 and my doctors don’t care! I can’t keep taking 800 mg of ibuprofen and alternating with extra strength Tylenol numerous times a day every day! There has to be a place for pain management and dermatology.

Refuse to go back. If they won’t listen, walk out. Be your own advocate with doctors. I know it’s hard to know which ones will be good but they’re out there. And I have walked out on doctors before when they refused to listen. They are experts, yes, but they need the information only you can provide about YOUR body to use that expertise.

For instance, it took me 4 months to get to see a specialist (referral, insurance approval, availability), walking out on him (after he had canceled my two previous appointments) would have meant potentially waiting an additional 4 months or maybe longer, meanwhile I would have have to suffer with my condition throughout all that time. I do think healthcare needs to change in this country.

My brother struggled with bad acne as a teenager, this is back in the 90s , my sister and I would follow Paula Begoun and she’d talk about Accutane as being the only real cure for acne. Doctors don’t offer it right away unless you ASK for it, which we did and my brother’s cystic acne went away and he became himself again. Teenagers with cystic acne struggle with major depression and it’s very sad to see because acne is curable with Accutane so doctors SHOULD be prescribing it more frequently and not to just boys. Back in the 90s they weren’t but hopefully now things have changed. I hope everyone watches this video because it’s so depressing to see young people with cystic acne on forums like tiktok and people suggesting things like rubbing your face with honey to get rid of acne…..frustrating and sad to see. Thanks you Dr Dray for spreading the word. If my brother didn’t go on Accutane then he’d have major facial scars now.

You know what.. I take more meds that basically keep me alive and they might permanently damage my brain, so I'm not scared of retinoid. But they MIGHT do it, no one is telling me that they WILL do it. The same with isotretinoin. I'm constantly checked by my GP and if she will find something wrong she will tell me. And for me it matters that my derm has PhD, because she's constantly doing research, and she specialises in acne.

@@SL-og7oz the Ipledge program and drug information doesn’t list many of the potential side effects, including decrease in neurogenesis, reduction in hippocampus size, damage to neurons, neurodegenerative conditions, MS, paralysis, infertility, damage to ovarian reserve, permanent tendon damage/ruptured, and many degenerative health conditions that can arise months or years after using isotretinoin. Unless you have researched the connection between accutane and all of these serious conditions yourself, you are not fully informed. Most people are fine when they use the drug and develop health issues later on after stopping it, and this is due to the nature of the mechanisms it causes, including dna and mitochondrial damage.

They were very helpful - however I am still wondering if there are any products I can use to prevent or stop this side effect as well as ways I can manage the itch, very dry skin, etc and washing the hair during the summer time. I realize these are likely too individualized of questions and I should try to seek answers on my own from my own health providers, but honestly my dermatologist hasn’t been the most helpful. (I’m using a telemedicine doctor who is located all the way across the country, haha)

I had none of the abovementioned side effects. No dry eyes....maaaaybe slightly dry lips. Did not use anything for the lips or eyes. Just sunscreen, but I always use broadspectrum SPF anyway. *And it cured my acne for life* . I took 120mg/kg (cumulatively). Took it with breakfast + teaspoon of *olive oil* .

Pretty sure that no water spray regardless of mineral content should be sprayed on your face without locking it in with a moisturizer. You’d set yourself up for transdermal water loss, further drying your skin, by just spraying it on your face for cooling purposes without locking it in.

They’re only good if you seal them immediately with an occlusive moisturizer, otherwise It’ll dry your skin out.

I don't think (increased) dryness would be a problem. You're not washing your face, stripping off oils and otherwise disrupting the skin barrier. You'd spray this over your moisturizer, sunscreen (possibly make up) and whatever oils your skin has already produced since your last wash. And being a light mist, it just sits on top of your skin for a couple seconds and then evaporates - which feels very nice, but is neither moisturizing nor drying, really - and yes, I'm speaking from experience - we don't really do air conditioning here, so you have to be creative in fighting the heat. I just use demineralized water in a fine mist bottle, though - I think termal water is a waste of money, unless (maybe) you use it like an active on freshly cleaned skin.

Im on my second day on accutane, im trying my best in this medication cause I know(somehow) that my side effects will be psychological… Im just using internet for school things, im trying to just watch movies, listen to music, and read books that won’t affect to much my mood….. im trying to exercice more, and i try to dont be too alone. Ive been in this routine for at least 3 months from my first day on the medication, im already more calm and relaxed. Yes Accuntane will change your life..Staying hydrated is the 🗝️. I'm in my forties and this is my third round of this and it always the lips first to dry out and dry nose but keep that carmex in purse and Vaseline for outside of nose area , refresh for dry eyes. vanicream soap for face and dove deep moisture for the body and body oil.. three month in and another three months left.

Maybe ask everyone the question about acne medication during initial consultations/updating details, as it may be an awkward question to ask someone who is self concious about their skin. BTW, Have you seen Dr Dray's videos about eyelash growth serums? Thankfully I have never used them, but would never use them after what Dr Dray said that they can do to one's eyes. Maybe ask patients about eye serum use too? Many people are unaware of how damaging they can be to eye health. 👱‍♀️❤

Towards the end of my accutane treatment I developed GERD and stomach problems, which have only gotten worse years after . I’m now diagnosed with Chron’s and have constant LPR. My acne also came back in a different form mostly all over my scalp. Accutane was a cancer drug used to destroy cells and dries out mucus membranes in the gut. You can say whatever you want, but I wish I never took this drug as all of these conditions started slowly at the end of my treatment and preceded to get worse and worse. They have a inflected a living on hell on to me. Did accutane cause this ? I guess you can never be certain but I know it only made things much much worse. I would never take this if I had the chance to go back. Please consider every alternative. My will to live is at all time low.

You may want to try tear duct plugs instead of artificial tears which are ineffective for me. They have lubricants you can rinse your mouth out with to keep it lubricated. They also have a product called ''Ocean" for your dry nose
