Kathy, great videos though I need to go back to support my class in Bristol! One question. I have a partial hip replacement following an accident and that puts a hard limit on the mobility I have. I do what I can with the movement I have and I've never been told NOT to do something but wondered if you had any thoughts on the latter? Thanks. Tim
@DesaYogiIyengarYoga2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim, welcome to my classes. Sorry to hear of your accident. Regarding your hip replacement, how long ago was it? What did your doctor tell you at the time? What is your age, your physical condition? The contraindications, depends on what side they approached from., posterior or anterior. Each have their own risks. Of course it's always good to be cautious and listen to your body, that goes without saying. One thing for sure you want to work on your standing poses to strengthen all the leg muscles and the muscles around the socket. Please tell me a bit more to be able to advise properly.. Your main focus should be to prevent dislocation. Hope this helps for now, if not more info will help me guide you further. I would love to hear back from you. Everyday we age and we grow and we are never going to be the way we were before. Your job is to discover what your new body will be open. Namaste

Kathy, thanks. It was 14 yrs ago and as a posterior partial (as opposed to full) right hip replacement and partial means that the risk of dislocation is not so high. So, I'm 66, I run (on grass, now not roads!) and go to the gym etc. I do listen to my body but as I said, I have a "hard stop" in terms of movement of esp my right hip. Sitting down on the floor, I reckon I can get to 100degrees but try as I might, no more. So I am comfortable about those limitations but try as I might, I cannot recover fully the strength in my right leg; and i have tried! Vrksasana typifies this - I am fine standing on my right leg and lifting the left but the reverse combo is hard. I can't keep my bent right leg up high......I would LOVE to overcome that as I used to be able to do both sides before the op! I do really enjoy your videos and have recommended these to many friends.
