There's a problem with young people. There's just an arrogance to youth because life has not beat at you yet...I have 3 teenagers and I can completely relate to this!

Good sermon. I like what Matt has to say here. At about 35 minutes in, he tells the story of the 2 different vans traveling to a destination where one van full of people decided to spend their time telling jokes and the others chose to get deep and they came out visibly impacted by the conversation. Matt seemed to react as if he'd done something wrong in leading the people in the first van to tell jokes versus get deep. I guess my perspective is that it's not a bad thing to tell good jokes and have a good time. I think timing and discernment about when it's appropriate is necessary, but I know Jesus had a blast with his disciples sometimes too. They goofed around. I don't deny that getting deep and truly experiencing God together is a much better experience and beats a joke any day, but is it wrong to laugh together? It doesn't imply that the people in the first van don't care about getting deep or weren't deep before or after that specific car ride. I guess I just don't understand Matt's position here about feeling like he failed them by setting an improper example. Am I wrong here? I don't feel like what they did was a bad thing, nor do I think it's biblically unpleasing to God to have a good time (tastefully).

If Matt Chandler was a local pastor where I live I would be there. Unlike all these Sunday “worship” comedian pastors giving sermons about their “oops” experience while referencing scriptures. Matt chandler was spot on With all these Christian Church I have been to.. watered down.. joking excessively during sermons.. Jesus ministry wasn’t about knock knock jokes or humorous moments. “Peter.. you will deny me one time, wait.. make it twice... never mind..three time.” Or “I’m knocking at your door... just kidding!” You should read 2 Timothy 4 again.

If you listen to what he actually said. He wasn’t there. His mission’s pastor was leading it.

The Trinity delights in our humanity...sports..romance... fishing...work ...music.... motherhood...fatherhood...it is all a participation in the life of the Trinity...not some sterile idea of holiness...and a guilt trip like Matt is giving here. He thinks he can do it.....by being earnest. ....he needs to go away and read widely. He copies John Piper.

@heidischrock5145 5 point Calvinism is bankrupt dualistic and doesn't take the Trinity seriously. Read Athanasius Barth TF Torrance C Baxter Kruger. Penal substitutionary atonement is an angry God behind the back of Jesus...for starters. John 14:20 in that day you will know that I am in My Father you are in Me and I am in you. Jesus is in us ...before we ask. Something happened before we voted. The lamb was slain before the foundation of the world. Matt is trying too hard.

Lmao jesus wants the Rose not crumbling stick of rot that most people feel ok with giving him

What do you mean by that. Ur not any better than anyone else. In the bible it says that there’s not one righteous person. All of us are messed up but if you come to Jesus wanting to turn your life around he will except you with open arms no matter what your past is.

The rose is the person, not their works. And apart from him our works are worse than that. We all are guilty and in need of saving, if jesus didn't want us this way then he wouldn't save anyone. But he doesn't allow us to remain this way, which is what I think you're getting at.
