If a Christian husband recognises that his wife is spiritually more mature than he is, one thing he can do a lot of is simply asking her advice on things. He then takes responsibility for making the key decisions, but those decisions are based in large part on her insights and ideas.

If she is truly more spiritually mature, then it is even EASIER to lead her, since she is full of the fruit of the Spirit!

John Piper is so right that we shouldn't think that husbands should lead in marriage simply because God said so. There is a good reason for it, i.e., there is a parallel with the relationship between Christ and the church. He is also right that whenever God gives us an instruction in Scripture, we should do our best to find out why. It's a big mistake just to say, 'Because God said so', as if we should normally not expect to have a clue why God instructs us to do things. There are times when it might not be possible to find the reason, but often there are good reasons that are knowable.

Encourage him and help him to grow more spiritually so he can make the correct decisions in the house hold. Then when he is independent spiritually and knows what he has to do, then he will start to take control and lead. the truth is the leader/ head must be more independent than those he is leading otherwise the roles switch and he becomes depended upon you.

Ephesians 5 and plenty of prayer. Meeting with a more mature male Christian from your church can be helpful.

It is right that God has designed husbands to have leadership in marriage. However, if a husband would seriously abuse his leadership role, I think it is best if he doesn't exercise leadership. Over the years I have met many Christian women who were married to non-Christian men, in marriages where there was no understanding that the husband was the leader. Usually in these situations I have been glad that the husband didn't see himself as the leader, because if he did it would almost certainly have made it harder for the Christian wife to live out her Christian faith. In this world situations often arise where there need to be exceptions to principles, and Christians mustn't try to force principles through no matter what.

Not to barge in, but you are absolutely correct. "Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves." (Phil. 2:3) kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3akaqSFhK-qqbM

@Mark OnTheBlueRidge A couple of points: First, I know that abuse isn't leadership. That's obvious. I'm not sure why you said that. Second, there are actually often times when we should allow for exceptions to biblical principles. For example, in Matt 5:42 Jesus says: 'Give to the person who asks you, and don't turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.' (CSB) Obviously we should allow for a multitude of exceptions to this principle. For example, if someone asks me for money to buy crack cocaine, I should certainly refuse! On the face of it, it seems like a blanket command, but the reader is supposed to know that application will be more complex. The Bible often gives statements like these that allow for unexpressed exceptions.

@@maxaplin4204 Two people unequally yoked is already a fundamental problem. How can there possibly be Spiritual leadership... I don’t even think any other kind of leadership would be established.

@@geoffreywright9856 You are right that the unequal yoke is a fundamental problem. And I also agree that there couldn't be spiritual leadership if the husband isn't a believer. My main point was really just that in many marriages where there is a Christian wife and non-Christian husband, I am glad that the husband isn't even trying to lead. If he did try to lead, things would become even more difficult for the Christian wife.

The mystery of the union of the Church and Christ is very poignant indeed! I would just like to add that there is a form of mutualism that's developed between the husband and wife, where neither are discernible as separate, but one in body and one in spirit. This is the perfection of the relationship between Christ and the Church, when we are taken into the New Earth. That is what we should yearn for, and in that, the submission and leadership become undiscernible when united in love. There is no need to worry about who gets to be the head. If the relationship between you two is complete as it ought to be between Christ and the Church, you have nothing to worry about.

Jesus Christ loves you and died, rose from the dead, and ascended to heaven to pay for your sin! Repent and turn to Him and you will walk in light and be saved. Read the book of John and Luke to see God's love for you!

How about tell the men to get caught up? Get in there with their relationship with God and let Him deal with their hearts fully and completely instead of trying to figure out how to lead a woman who is more capable than they are? This sounds like being unequally yoked to be honest. And I seriously wonder if we really understand what biblical leadership actually is.

Its not so easy though for the wife. Equally takes a lot of humility to be submissive to a husband who seemingly is clueless

You do know in Ephesians 5:21 it says, Submit yourselves one to another out of reverence for Christ, so husbands are supposed to be submitting to their wives as well. And what's said to the wives is Greek military terminology referencing troops coming into alignment with each other to go into battle together. In Proverbs 8 wisdom is personified as a woman specifically instructing men, at the end of the chapter saying things like, he who doesn't listen to her is basically injuring himself and all who hate her love death. We're not here to just be your sidekicks servants and accessories. Be quiet and sit in a corner or to be controlled by you or owned by you all as property. Do you seriously not know how Jesus treated women? Are you that clueless about what the Bible actually says about women? Look up Deborah and Huldah, and the original Hebrew meaning for helpmate, ezer kenego.
