Hi Everyone, Video 2 of my Ducati 1098S service series as I ready the bike for sale.
In this video I will be carrying out the following:
- Fitting new spark plugs
- Clean the front calipers
- Fit new front brake pads
- Fit twin front brake race line set-up
- Bleed the front brakes with new fluid
- Fit a carbon sharks fin and swingarm protector
- Install a JT sprocket carrier and Renthal sprocket
- Service the slipper clutch
Back onto the Ducati ST2 project in the next video as I aim to complete the paintwork, the next 1098S video will see the Ohlins forks serviced and the bike cleaned ready for sale.

Nice video again! One little Tip: You really don't need to justify yourself towards any "doubters". You are doing all that work for years successfully even with regular track use. If that is not enough expertise for all these keyboard warriors and couch mechnanics they should watch something else. All these small explanations (that need no explanation) quite take out some flow out of your great videos to be honest. I know it's a KZbin phenomenon, but content makers don't really need to justify everything they do :)

Hi Hansi, I keep falling into this KZbin hole of justifying my actions, even I cringe when I edit it back. I will try and cut this habit out 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for the support and watching. 👍😎

Good video but I have the official Ducati 1098 workshop manual and it states 11nm for Spark Plug torque setting (not 20nm) and 9nm for the coil retaining bolt (not 10nm).
@DesmoWerx
@DesmoWerx Ай бұрын
Hi, you are correct. The earlier engines are 20nm, did not realise it had changed for the 1098, will amend that in future. The coil retainer I do at 10nm as its my lowest torque wrench setting.

Some manuals like Haynes, recommend using brake fluid or denatured alcohol when cleaning brakes. Your thoughts? This clip is Designer approved ✅
@DesmoWerx
@DesmoWerx 3 жыл бұрын
I have heard of people using brake fluid to clean pistons, bores and seals on the brakes and it makes senses as its the fluid in use as well. Not used denatured alcohol so cannot directly comment, however I believe its a natural solvent so would expect it to work.

Great Job. definitely do not justify what you are doing! You are doing a bang up job. Nice work!!! Question, while you had the rear carrier off, why didnt you clean out the rear hub assembly? As well, just an fyi email sent to you.

Hi great video ,as they all are.I’ve got a question about idle revs. Can I increase the idle revs without getting ecu flash.I’ve tried adjusting the air bleed screws but they have no effect.cheers Andy
@DesmoWerx
@DesmoWerx Жыл бұрын
The idle speed is usually set via the DDS. You can use the by pass screws with out a DDS system but they effect cold start settings, as well as warm idle and as there is one per cylinder need to be balanced with a vacuum gauge on each intake. I would personally only do it when connected to a DDS.

I really struggled bleeding the clutch on my 1199s. In the end, I had to use a syringe at the slave cylinder to inject fluid up the system towards the master. The Panigale burns up (turns black) clutch fluid so quickly, I'd like to be able to replace it easily and regularly. Any chance you could do a video to show how you'd do it? Cheers.

Nice vid. You effortlessly torqued up that sprocket side nut, but how did you hold the wheel/axle in place doing it? I'm always having a bit of struggle on those nuts. Usually have to resort to having a friend sitting on the bike when doing it......

Hi Mr Matt, I wedge the rear brake on with a bar under the work shop stand, with the engine in gear as well for added help. If no workshop stand then like you I use someone to stand on the rear brake.

@@DesmoWerx Ahh. I see. Looked so simple, I just had to know the trick. I'll have to figure something out in due time.

You probably did it without thinking but for those at home , when you changed the spark plugs did you put the old ones in the empty boxes and Mark them vertical and horizontal with the service date so you can track the cylinder wear ?
@DesmoWerx
@DesmoWerx 3 жыл бұрын
I tend to keep them for my 2 stroke bikes but not for the 4 strokes, as mine are track only bikes I usually rebuild them or top end refresh often enough not to worry around cylinder wear. It is a good point though 👍😊

You bathed the calipers in warm soapy water without the banjo bolts fitted. How did you make sure all the water was removed from the pots so as to not start corrosion and boil off during hard applications? Keep watching, got it, uoy don't miss much.
@DesmoWerx
@DesmoWerx 3 жыл бұрын
Not to worry, the bath is not deep enough to cover the banjo and then I cover the hole whenever I am cleaning with my rubber gloved thumb (good seal), I then push out all the brake fluid after finishing plus remember it is then fully bled again as well.

Probably I missed this in the previous videos but is there a website where you get all the parts that you need or just googling around? I'd like to replace myself some parts on my monster S4

HI Emidio, I use a variety of different suppliers to secure the best price at the time of buying so it varies between jobs. Ebay as a quick sourcing tool can and usually does have good prices if you search around.

do you just use normal dishwashing soap für cleaning the calipers?

on average, how long does the clutch basket last? mine has 22k miles and the clutch is starting to slip
@DesmoWerx
@DesmoWerx 2 жыл бұрын
It really depends on use, plate types used i.e. steel or ally and quality of the basket. OEM ones are steel so tend to last longer. I have gone through aftermarket ally baskets in less than a season of racing.

I HAVE A 08 1098 WHEN A TAKE OFF IN FIRST GEAR NOW A WIERD SOUND HAPPENS IN THE FIRST COUPLE SECONDS, LIKE SOMETHING IS GETTING OVER TURN LIKE WHEEL BOLT NOISE BEING OVER TURN. ANY IDEAS WHAT IT MIGHT BE? ONLY HAPPENS IN FIRST GEAR AND IF I TAKE OFF REALLY SLOW I DOESN'T HAPPEN REALLY LOUD.
@DesmoWerx

It would be impossible to diagnose this type of issue without seeing and hearing the bike in front of me, I would hate to steer you in the wrong direction.
@DrtCarlos
@DrtCarlos Жыл бұрын
@DesmoWerx I appreciate that. I did buy new plates for the clutch, so I hope that will do it, if not. I ll take her to a professional for a proper diagnosis.
