There is so many things that feel like using GameSpy back in 2000's. 5 is a honest rating. I have tried both but ended up playing destiny because of the level “boost” to 750 and because atleast It’s easier to understand (and cross save), I’m currently having a lot of fun in crucible, it reminds me of halo gameplay pvp

Despite what anyone says Activision did a serious number on the game, and if you care about the game you should understand how difficult of a situation that puts bungie in. I for one respect this decision to begin polishing and establishing the core of the game instead of adding piles of content that needs to be redone later or left in the dust.

They compared it to Rise of Iron, but it hasn't been as big. Raid is smaller (and has reskinned armor instead of unique armor like Wrath), the Moon is good but re-used (Plaguelands were new in RoI), there's virtually no new loot (especially compared to RoI), and much more. Shadowkeep itself is by far the weakest Comet Expansion. But what it makes me hopeful is the systems it introduced. And the clear RPG evolution the game is getting. I just hope the Annual Pass content isn't as barebones as the last Annual Pass was.

As a Destiny player that has probably 1000+ hours on the Blizzard account before the Steam move, not all of us attack people for not liking the game. The noisy vocal minority that makes the rest of us look back don't represent how I/We feel. To be fair... listen to the way he presents his critique: “Who the fuck came up with this!?” “Why the fuck (insert critique here)”. I respect his opinion and I don’t care if he doesn’t like it personally. But his critique is presented in a hostile manner. So people are more likely to be hostile in their critique of his critique if that makes sense. Maybe if he was more constructive in his style and focused less on cussing like an angsty preteen then people wouldn’t be so hostile in return. And I haven’t even bought Shadowkeep so that really doesn’t have anything to do with his opinion on the game. Just the way he chose to present that criticism. @@Rogue-ww2nw I keep up. The only time I took a significant break was Curse of Osiris (for obvious reasons). Hell, I run a Destiny clan. I love that game. But as he said, the campaign is short. I know what Bungie is going for story wise with seasonal content being part of the overall story. But you can't expect new players to be versed in the history and mechanics of the game. Like I said, if you like Destiny, this is still a good expansion. But if you're jumping in and not up to date with everything, the $35 (or $60 if you opted for the bundle) is not going to initially feel like you got your money's worth.

It's true, for new players it's a complete mess. As a returning player, I really appreciate everything that they've done. The way I see it: If you are new, try the F2P version and if you like it get Forsaken. Or even straight up get Forsaken from the get go. It's hands down the best expansion and all the content of it plus the seasons is there. Great campaign, great raids, greats bosses, tons of exotics quests and so on and forth. Getting Forsaken basically means you get the expansion plus all of Y2 content from the get go. It's amazing value and a great way to get into the game. If you already have Forsaken and liked Y2, then get Shadowkeep. Yes, right now there's not that much new content, but we got proof this week that the story is going to be evolving as the season goes and we also already have the new raid and a bunch of content is planned to unlock on the first month, so there's that. I think Shadowkeep is good value considering you get that and all the seasons for the next year, but since it's just starting then it does look bad compared to Forsaken. Those are my 2cents.

I think this might be ther most even handed review available: D2 has come a long way since launch, but new players have no incentive to put $30 on the game especially for the limited new content. But as a free to play, it's certainly worth trying out and returning players can check out the new systems that have improved the game dramatically since launch. Decide if it's enough to justify a purchase based on the content you can already enjoy instead of worrying about the newest expansion.

Because they wanted campaigns to be optional. If you had to start at level one, you would have to do all the campaigns in order or grind pvp. You also would not be able to do strikes or explore certain areas due to being insta killed by high level enemies.

Forsaken had a level 30 boost, but it was one time use. Every other character would need to do all (3 I think?) campaigns, the ones which are free now. This is a lot of time spent doing content that is in my opinion, mediocre and not worth the time. The Destiny 2 experience is never about “Is this worth my money?” But instead “is this worth my time?”. The first 3 campaigns are not worth the time, especially if you’re interested in what Destiny 2 really has to offer, which is the endgame. Don’t let anybody tell you the campaigns are worth the time, because they are not. The story is awful unless you’re an absolute messiah of Destiny lore, and the gameplay is nothing to write home about. In conclusion, we have the insta 750 light and level 50 to give players new and old as much freedom as possible. Do you want to do The Red War, Curse of Osiris and Warmind DLCs before jumping in to Forsaken and Shadowkeep? Sure, you can do that. Do you want to instantly jump into Shadowkeep and skip Forsaken? You can do that too. It gives you freedom no other version of Destiny 2 has had thus far.

This is my first time picking up the Destiny game and I have to say I am having an absolute blast playing through with my mates, it’s so much fun! But I do have to agree that I didn’t know what the fuck was going on when I first jumped in with next to NO introduction. New light has been set up terribly for new players to the franchise. I would have preferred it forced us through the main campaign first off rather than floundering around for hours trying to learn shit.

After 70 hours with Shadowkeep and three characters sitting on about 945LL this is my take: It's excellent. Now, full disclosure, I never played Destiny 1, I only played Destiny 2 on PC for a rather significant 1500 hours or so. So, regarding the Moon I do not have any environemental fatigue at all. To me, it seems like a fantastic, beautifully realised area that has a lot to see and do, with a lot more on the horizon. The campaign's brief runtime is actually a boon in a game like Destiny 2, as having run it three times now, once for each character, I was glad for its brevity. A lot of players in D2 at this point in its life cycle have all three guardian classes, so having a campaign of this length is a good balance against the multiple runs required for them. It was an enjoyable, short and sweet run. The reviews giving the expansion a 5/6 etc are just ridiculous imo. This is a very high quality product with a TONNE of fun content, already present and upcoming, to enjoy. The gunplay and graphics are still best in class and the sheer amount of time one can spend playing and working towards something is extremely impressive. Destiny 2 taken as a whole is an exceptional product at this stage, and although not as ridiculously impressive as Forsaken was, Shadowkeep is still a very good addition to the franchise. Id give it about a 8.5 or 9 out of 10.

I'd give it a 7. The armor system change is nice and adds depth, the story was rather bland confusing and uninteresting (plus eris is just emo af and annoying.) The content is all rehashed bosses with 3 phase immunity creep wave fights for nightmare hunts, vex invasions are pretty fun and the raid is decent. But overall it's not much nor very deep at the end of it for an "expansion" to justify paying for one zone and one raid at the end of it all. Welcomed addition but not nearly game changing or enough content to feel fulfilling.

As someone who has played since Warmind, this review is bang on. My friends and new clanmates constantly ask, what to do and honestly I dont know where to start because hell I didn't know either and just winged it through CoS and Warmind, then Forsaken and now Shadowkeep which for $30 we just blazed past through. Half the time I see people express how they spend more time on guides than playing the actual game because there is 0 direction in what to do next and this is true even for myself and several veterans...It was a long time since CoS that I felt buyer's remorse..

110% agree with what you have to say about Shadowkeep! So much reskinned gears, maps/areas from D1 and D1 bosses. I paid 35.00 for a map from D1, same old enemies to shoot, and the Nightmares are just the same old enemies with yellowbar health and with red aura around their body. Most of the better weapons or end game loot isnt really obtainable for new players(unless they have a strong fireteam). Dont get started with the Nightfall Ordeal thing, same old strikes that D2 players have been running over and over, but bosses have certain shield that needs matching mods on your weapons to break! For $35.00 USD, this content should provided us with at least 4-5 brand new strikes, brand new enemies, and couple new areas(not an old D1 map).

I remade one of my character for Shadowkeep for the new player experience and honestly, I don't see why so many people are having a problem. I'm down for them making things a little more clear, but they already hold your hand as it is. When you drop into Tower, you're given various quest markers to introduce various NPC and the likes. The game has pop-ups that explain certain parts of the game and it even guides you to Holliday to show you where to start the first three campaigns, which you can pick up right then and there for the new player quest to speak with her.

Destiny has been one of my favorite love/hate franchises over the years, mostly love, a little hate. I can agree with your point of view for new players TBH, I created a new character just to play the new opening mission for nostalgia. When its done, you're dumped into the tower and told to talk to a few NPCs aaaand... thats it, good luck. So I agree with the video, for new players, breaknecking through the Moon story just isn't priority #1. Play through the original stories, experience what the game has to offer and if you like it like we do, feel free to purchase the expansion because it comes with a pretty good story, a wonderful Raid, and will include content upcoming within Season of Undying and beyond.

I was so excited for Shadowkeep and almost instantly had the wind taken out of my sails when I started it up. The moon has a couple new locations but is still just spruced up from D1, Hive are just red and spikey, Vex are just covered in sticks, most weapons and armour are reskins (such as weapons from the Osiris expansion being covered with leaves and put back into the game) bosses from D1 AND D2 being brought back (i.e. Ghaul, The Fanatic and Crota are all minibosses during a story mission and they all die in a minute or so) Taniks and Skolas both have the EXACT same mechanics and don't look unique from one another because of the nightmare colour scheme, you can also still sit in the SAME GLITCH against Phogoth as you could in D1 and the new activity suffers as a result of all this because, especially as a long time player of Destiny, you'll still be fighting the same, washed out Vex with a big minotaur at the end. Even the bosses in the new strikes are recycled, with the broodmother being a copy and paste of the boss from the last summer solstice event and the boss in the festering core being a big taken Incendior

Izaiah Clinton dark souls is a bad example because it actually tells a good story with interesting characters you want to know more about, destiny does neither of those things well. The best guns in the game come from pvp. The comp mode which you get them from is 3v3 and has an exclusive solo queue option and this season they changed the system to be based on personal play instead of winning/losing.

The only thing I will add to this is the new direction of the game as a whole. Each season brings a new arc. As you play through the arc, new modes are unlocked, new story is told until the end of the season in which those events maybe gone for a while. There's a lot of communities that always open to new players, a ton of guides and aids to follow on youtube as well. The veteran players have blazed a path for new players to follow. Destiny has a strong community. I must add that the shadow keep story itself will continue for months, while more seasonal dlcs come out. Doing the $65 deal gives you the full year of dlc on top of the continuing story. Or you can pick and choose seasons you want to play. The game will be changing non stop for the next year or so. Yes the moon is included in the free play, but you’re going to wrecked by enemies that are much higher than you are. I respect this review, although I think most people knew there wouldnt be a big bunch of content this time around opposed to forsaken. Most people knew it would be mostly QoL changes and just making the game better as a whole. The raid is beautiful and well done. There will be a new dungeon to come out in the near future as well. There are a couple of things I wish could be different though. I think there is a lack of new exotics, and I wish they had put in new subclasses. A lot of people were saying things like new "dark subclasses" where you use dark powers instead of the light. I feel that was one of the things that made forsaken so great. 9 new subclasses with forsaken and none with this dlc. I am hoping they will add some surprise subclasses and exotics.

My experience post-patch is that even though I don't own Forsaken and haven't touched Shadowkeep yet, heading into the strike playlist sends me into a Forsaken or Shadowkeep strike 9/10 times, leading to a similar feeling of "I have no idea what's going on and therefore find it hard to care about what's happening".

That is fair. The lack of leveling from the beginning up to the end is an odd decision to me. I will say that you should head to Amanda Holiday to get the year one story missions. Forsaken is required for it's own story missions, but that is definitely worth it, as he says.

RomanDoughnut I don’t mean to discredit man I’m just saying that out of all the people that play I feel like the average player doesn’t pay much attention to what’s going on with the story when each new expansion drops they just wanna know if it’s fun enough to be played over and over again cus that’s basically what the game is is just grinding through the same content repeatedly. See you gotta actually go looking into the lore to really get anything out of it imo. It’s a very basic story on the surface. The best stories don’t have you needing to dig into the lore to keep you interested, the best stories have you on the edge of your seat from the beginning see what I’m sayin?

@@TheShinigami244 they don't do the thresholds anymore i don't think. They implemented a new scaling system for light level. You can do the raid well underneath recomended and still do ok...if you good at the game. Still your at a pretty massive disadvantage at such a low light level.

Shadowkeep came with the season, shadowkeep was 20 and the season is 10 dollars, but in the future the seasons will be sold seperately

If you have dozens of people not knowing where to go or what to do they are not using the reading skills they obtained in school after you create their character and complete the new light mission you told to talk different npc's in which text will appear when interacting with them explaining there relevance to you and why you should complete their weekly objectives also talking to Amanda holiday is how you start the past campaigns but once again they would have known that had the just read the quest throw at their forehead after the cinematic but I appreciate you actually giving the game a chance again

I can attest to the "what do I do" feeling you get when you start. It was the first time playing D2 and at first I was like "did they really just reuse the D1 intro?", that instantly gave me a bad impression. After that I think I ended up at a random spot on Earth doing random quests, trying to find the storyline which would help me understand what the fuck was happening in the world. I went to the interent to find where the hell I do the campaigns and finally after doing the Legacy campaigns I feel somewhat comfortable within the world. I honestly think they should have you go straight into the first campaign or something.

They made new light for people who wanted to play with their friends but ended up completely neglecting the fact that this will make it a shitshow for new player who have no one guide them. You are thrown into a world where a lot of shit has happened but you have no idea what actually happened. New players definitely should be promoted to go directly to Amanda Holiday and start red war campaign(give them a tip that you can skip but it will leave you out of the story so that those who just wanna watch a recap video on the campaign instead of playing it could do so and get into newer conten).

Watches first episode of a season, "Well this wasn't a very long story and didn't even have an ending!" This is the evolving world always progressing basically episodic content, not an up front purchase like a traditional expansion content dump. It makes it hard to review, but there it is.

The experience when you start a new game has been changed significantly since then. It changed when Shadowkeep released which was on 1 October. Before then it was very different. They changed it so that you don't have to play the campaign before doing endgame stuff, but this ended up as throwing you in the deep end with no clue what to do if you haven't played before.

Honestly, as a person who puts a lot of time into playing this game and has every expansion, to new players I recommend they just stick to base content and introduce them to the 3 raids that are on offer. After that, if they really enjoy the content and the gunplay then I'd 100% recommend buying the forsaken bundle. It is definitely worth the price, giving you an additional 3 more raids and new story missions, as well as an abundance of exotic quests. And with all the improvements to the armour and mods as well as the unfortunate lack of content in shadowkeep, it really doesn't feel like you're missing out on too much content.

Idk man my friends and I all bought the game with no hesitation. We had been enjoying the snot out of the Forsaken which I got the complete collection for $27 and to step up to Shadowkeep and the seasons pass was an easy choice. Definitely having a blast even though I swear it feels weird on steams servers. I don't know if things are better or worse but for some reason in PvP I feel I am missing shots i would usually hit.

Ngl me as a destiny vet i totally agree the amount of times i get whispers because people are confused is not very good, the into quest split off at one point which is confusing for new players and i went to help. Its fun seeing new people in my favorite game but seeing them confused after trying to give it a chance is kinda heart breaking
