great video. Only a suggestion..The WORST thing you can do is start a new turbo with no oil in the CHRA. that turbo spins between 80-150K rpm...distastrous if dry. When replacing any turbo you should place a little oil in the top side in the CHRA...that lubricants the journals. Then before tightening down the banjo oil fitting to the turbo, prime the oil pressure by disconnecting your fuel pump relay and ignition wire by placing the banjo oil feed tip into a clear container so you can see the oil come out. Then replace fuel relay and ignition wire and crank.

As others stated, thx for the extra efforts on the thorough walkthrough of the removal, including many of the nuisances of doing it. Such a great platform, love this engine.

Great video! I just pulled the turbo from my 07 Aero, but I did it by the book - WIS. Your method is easier. I broke all three solenoid bolts. They were easy to remove. I just built them up with MIG weld, and used water pump pliers to turn them out. I’m not upgrading, just sending it off for rebuild. For reference, mine is Saab part number 55557012, which is a Mitsubishi 49389-01700.

You should of checked the wastegate flapper and the rod connection arm for play. Cause if that’s loose or not closing all the way then you’ll have major boost and spooling issues. Since you had the turbo out it would have been good time to check it. My 2007 had that issue and it took me a long figure out what the problem was. So how are the gains? Is it real noticeable?
@WeakestofWeeks2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing! I didn't pay too much attention to the waste gate flapper at the time but I agree it's definitely something to look for while everythings out. Now that the car's tuned it pulls hard and spins the wheels with minimal effort and is a blast to drive!

I assume you gonna tune it soon? How much HP and TQ can this drivetrain handle? I only got stage 0 so far from Vtuner and it's amazing
@saabieauto3313 жыл бұрын
Same but I need more really want the stage2+ but I wish it offers this turbo
@WeakestofWeeks3 жыл бұрын
In my opinion the weakest link for these drivetrains is the clutch. Mine is upgraded so at this point I'm not too concerned about it. Not sure on numbers yet but tuner said I should get a solid 350hp conservatively and around 380 if I upgrade injectors. I can certainly push for more but being my daily at this point I'm happy with 350hp.

Hi friend. I have Saab 9-3 1.8T, 2003. I have some problems if you can help. First one P0033 (turbo charger problem). Second one when I drive, smoke comes from around to turbo(or under the turbo cover)
@okletsskate2 ай бұрын
Question. I live in car hell (CA) and we have smog checks that now check if the ECM data has been modified. I am looking to do this same turbo upgrade and was wondering if the car ran with this turbo and stock tune well enough to not trigger a CEL? (Not pushing it of course) - I plan on tuning my car with this upgrade, but would like to keep it stock ish when it's time to smog it.
@WeakestofWeeksАй бұрын
Before the tune mine did run, but not well. The bigger turbo increases the amount of air going into the engine which requires more fuel to balance out. If you just upgrade the turbo without bigger injectors and without a tune, then you risk running the engine lean which could blow it up.
@okletsskateАй бұрын
@@WeakestofWeeks Just chimed in on your other video, thanks for the response. I feel like I"m doomed to be stuck on Stage 0. I don't want to risk running it lean but just running well enough to pass smog.

I have a 2008 2.8 turbo automatic transmission. Can my transmission handle that kind of power if I upgrade my turbo for that one?
@WeakestofWeeks2 жыл бұрын
My cars are manual so I honestly cannot say. If you're looking at a larger turbo then you will also need a tune. Talk with a Saab tuner and they'll be able to tell you the limits based on experience.

Hey I live in Ohio where did you get your parts for your Saab? I Have a 2005 Saab 9-3 2.0t Arc and I wanna keep it but I have the hardest time getting parts. Can you help a lady out? Also where did you get the stuff to customize your car?

New OEM parts I typically get from esaabparts.com or go with new aftermarket brands through rockauto.com I'm lucky and time to time get a Saab in the junkyard in Columbus so I get parts there. Facebook Saab groups and forums help to get parts too.
