What are your thoughts on Berkey water filters. I am considering one for my family. We rent, and I don't want to permanently install or alter anything in the kitchen. Also, electricity is expensehive 😂 Another thing is my guilty pleasure of waffle making. I haven't seen any that fit your criteria (heck, I'd settle for finding an electrical waffle maker without a nonstick coating. Or even one that I can plop onto my induction cooker. 😢

this is probably one of the most mind boggling details about american culture. I want to take off my shoes any chance I get, its super uncomfortable and actually really bad for your feet orthopedically. also best way to get smelly feet... And it's super unhygienic. Why tf do people do this? This is barbarous... Edit: Come to realize, I even switch my street clothes to more comfortable sweatpants and sweatshirts immediatly upon entering my home. I don't want those yucky germs in my house...

I am happy to report that very few of these products are in my life. I have always liked traditional housewares, so my pans are mostly cast iron, though I do have some Gotham Steel pans that are ceramic coated. I don't use any silicone or teflon style bakeware. I don't have any carpet & my floors are either concrete or unfinished pine. My walls are done in raw pine. Only my kitchen is sheetrocked & painted. I don't buy any modern furniture that is all synthetic products & glues. I like old real wood furniture. Our well is 360 feet deep from an aquifer that comes from deep in the Rocky Mountains. I don't take my shoes off because I am in & out frequently doing ranch chores, cutting firewood, etc., but there has never been ANY herbicides or pesticides used anywhere near our 160 acres of wild sagebrush prairie. The worst I'll track in is some horse & chicken poo & a little bacteria doesn't worry me. I don't use many cleaners & what I do use is pthalate free, mostly Dr. Bronner's hemp oil soaps & vinegar. I haven't had a new car since 1990, partly because it's a waste of money but also because that long lasting "new car smell" is toxic off-gassing. As are air fresheners. My one toxic product that I knowingly conceded to is my memory foam mattress because I have beat up my body so badly that it's the only thing I can get comfortable enough to get a good night's sleep on. I figured "pick your poison." Good luck on the detoxifying your home journey all. It's worth it!

Can you PLEASE do a separate video about the hazards of fragrant laundry products and dryer fumes? ... and really deep dive into it too...esp the health risks to kids, adults, animals and plants. After 19 years of living here, our very close (proximity) neighbors switched last year to fragranced laundry detergent. The fumes are absolutely stifling us!! 😭🤮 I literally have to run into the house whenever it's running. I actually started having asthma-like breathing issues because of it... and I don't even have asthma! 🥴 It's poisoning our air, it's poisoning our garden plants, it comes into our windows, and our air conditioning unit is in direct line with their dryer vent. 😷 I've approached them to switch back to unscented, but they robotically replied "We love the smell." (I swear they are addicted to it!!) I've read that people can become addicted to it. 😬 I've been thinking about doing a video about it on our other garden channel (Happy Home and Garden with John and Dawne), but coming from you would be WAY better.🙏 Oh yeah... and on the other side of our house, our other neigbor uses fragrant laundry too. And another neighbor adjacent to our small back yard too. I'm literally bombarded with laundry smell almost every day outside in our yard. It's unbelievably horrible!!! 😱 HELP PLEASE!! 🙏🤞

I buy SOLID WOOD utensils (which are STEAMED and fitted with wooden tenons [as opposed to glued]) and cutting boards. I've NEVER LIKED the inflated cost, INFERIOR QUALITY and deplorable ,"aesthetics" of modern IKEA type furniture, such that in 1980, when my then-boyfriend offered me $10,000 cdn to furnish our rental, my origional excitement waned as I examined the construction of the pseudo or faux "wood" pieces for sale...at LUDICRIOUSLY INFLATED prices. As the daughter of a fine woodworker, I knew well the inferior FUNCTIONALITY of manufactured wood products as compared to solid hardwoods (and softwoods). I told my love that i would PREFER to WAIT until we could AFFORD "near antiques", suggesting we search second hand listings of USED IKEA furniture as I reasoned such inferiorly manufactured items would have a more reasonable cost. My near antiques APPRECIATED with time, and my appreciation for each beautifully constructed case work has NOT diminished.

I bought a Wonder Oven on the Black Friday sale. I asked my ex hubster (who began insisting I accept birthday and Christmas gifts AFTER he LEFT me) if he was "stuck" for a gift for this December and if he might, please buy me the oven such that our sons and I could "retire" our Airfryers. Ironically, I had gifted HIM with various luxuries in addition to the birthday and Christmas gifts I CONTINUED to buy for him AFTER he LEFT US. He is, afterall the man I loved for three decades and the father of my sons who survived TWO STROKES suffered on the day I told him I was leaving HIM. As a brain injured person, his daily challenges are MYRIAD and I was loathe to give him DANGEROUS small appliances HE ASKED for. A DEEP FRYER (for example) is DANGEROUS to a person with bilateral paraylis. I also bought him a brand new air conditioner in the HEAT of SUMMER (as paralyzed persons CAN NOT REGULATE their body temperatures as once they did). His sons and I stoicly and CHEERFULLY ENDURED the oppressive heat of that same summer (as we COULD NOT THEN AFFORD an air conditioner FOR OURSELVES) and rewarded our selflessness by buying an airconditioner IN LATE FALL when the cost PLUMMETED. I DO WITHOUT luxuries when SAFETY ITEMS are needed. We NEVER (or rarely ever) ate processed foods and the money we SAVED was spent on FULL FACE MOTORCYCLE HELMETS for my toddlers...helmets which cost MORE than the PW50 dirtbike I bought from friends who had OUTGROWN it. Where there is a will, there is a way. ❤

Thank you for pointing this out! I have one concern with your thoughts on tapwater vs. filtered water though. Perhaps the water quality in the US is so bad that you need to give this advice, but here in Germany it's different. We get our water from a barrage and it's of best drinking quality. There's a website where you can check the ingredients. Water filters aren't considered a healthier option here, because they can contain bacteria and germs. So I guess tap water quality depends on the country or area you live in ...

A lot of good information here. One thing I would probably dispute is worrying about taking minerals out of your water by filtering. It actually distilled water is the best. A lot of people think they need the minerals. We get our minerals and many different ways. We do not need to get it in our water. Actually distilled water would be considered the same thing as rain rain water. Do some research and see what you think thinks

"Fashions" come & go in interior design and MANY people who are slaves to interior design TRENDS will lose inteterest in VALUABLE ITEMS once the TREND moves to another aesthetic. I bought Victorian furniture when SWEDISH MODERN replaced it...and clean lined Swedish modern when it was replaced by a more ornate style.

Hi Dr Yvonne thank you for all you do How do we detox the dust mites out of our homes?

I bought a pan made of copper with a ceramic coating. What do you think about copper? Once I left the pan on a high heat plate for a while and it seems to have lost some of it's non-stick properties so seems the inherent nature of it has been altered. Will look into solid ceramic.

What's wrong with stainless steel pots? I thought they were safe.
@mastalee17769 ай бұрын
She mentioned it. The chemicals from the metal itself. You don't want too much of it.
@simplelife3939 ай бұрын
I think if you use it for cooking acidic food, overall it's pretty much safe. I use stainless steel.

@@scattered-idea At least you‘re not into abrahamic religions. I can somewhat respect paganism although it is a bit weird, why not just be agnostic at that point. Spirituality can be experienced in many ways that don‘t require the belief in something super natural. Then again to each their own…

Just found your channel and subscribed. You are so informative, I'm so glad I found your channel!! Would you suggest an alternative to the automatic rice cooker?
@dryvonneburkart2 ай бұрын
Thanks for subscribing! I use the stove top method but the instant pot also works. I have a stainless steel rice cooker in my Amazon shop without nonstick coatings. www.amazon.com/shop/dryvonneburkart

Never put essential oils on dryer balls because they oils are flammable when exposed to high heat. Unless you're using the dryer in the air fluff setting with no heat, I wouldn't use the oils.

Wow, I was getting ready to buy the wool balls and use the scented oils on them…you sure woke me up….do you have any idea on how to make clothes smell nice????
@alwaysright590110 күн бұрын
@Mickey-jn8hz Only safe way I can think of is to spray your essential oil solution on your warm clothes right AFTER they come out of dryer. I use Zum mist spray. They use glycerin and a blend of essential oils and are paraben free, phthalate free and only 2-3 ingredients.

What about Chinese/Korean earthenware pots? How can we know that the paint and coating on the surface is safe? Are there tests us regular people can do?
@BombyxHouse_Jewelry3 ай бұрын
Those are glaze on the surface, not paint. They are fired with thousand of degrees in a kiln. Glaze is as same as glass. People have been using them for centuries. Super safe to use.

Thank you for the informative video. I've heard that PFAs can be coated on carpets, too. What are your recommendations for home floors? Will laminated tile be ok, or should we go with solid wood and ceramic?
@dryvonneburkart10 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes carpets can be coated in PFAS for stain & water resistance. Ceramic and solid wood are optimal flooring materials imo. Cork is another option but it can get dented.

What about the plastic used to make water filters? Is this not a potential risk too?
@dryvonneburkart10 күн бұрын
It’s negligible risk since filtered water can be transferred to glass. The filter efficiency and efficacy are more important than the filter container material.
