He was with MCA records and Alicia Meyers came out of this camp . She came out before anita baker . Mary j blige said she was highly influenced by her as well as many others saying the same thing . The Dramatics , The Spinners , Enchantment , BrainStorm , Michael Henderson , The Maghee sisters and list go's on . Golden World Records was on Berry Gordy's you know what ?

I got another great one for you . Harvey Fuqua another great Motown Exec had his own going . He brought a Group called New Birth out of Battle Creek Michigan that put some key funk , R&B and Soul hits thru out the 70's . I think they would be great story . Fun Fact , Before the Parliaments made , They lived in Detroit during the 60's and George Clinton made his hussle as a barber hair stylist , Shoe shine , Producer and writer for many groups around Detroit but especially at GoldenWorld Records under Ed Wingate ?

I'm so glad you did Carl Carlton , My mother went to school ( Murray Wright ) with him as well as other's and yes he was truly underrated . He could've been so much more . Don't forget other Detroit unsung heros and sheros like Alicia Meyers , Al hudson and the soul partners - oneway , Michael Henderson and the Disco era group Brain Storm etc.... Too many to name who didn't get on Motown but still made national hits. . Thank You wants again .

When my daughter was in elementary school, one of her afterschool teachers was playing "She's a Bad Mama Jama" . My daughter was singing the song and her teacher said "How do you know this song?" Daughter said "My Mama plays this song ".🤣🤣 Good job as usual. ❤

I’m from Detroit. Back then, a night club called Phelps Lounge would host afternoon shows on Sundays for teens to dance and have fun. Little CarlCarlton would sometimes perform when he had a new single to promote. Chile, the girls would be screaming and trying to get to him like he was Michael Jackson! In fact, when the first J-5 single came out, I thought it was Carl! This video brought back so many memories, thank you. I loved most of his early stuff, “Competition Ain’t Nothing” and “You Can Drop by My Place”, which I purchased at a record store. Keep doing what you’re doing, these stories are important to our culture! BTW, my mother is recording artist from Detroit Bettye LaVette. Could you show her some love? 💜✌🏽✨

I'm surprised that Carl Carlton didn't get signed to Motown records, since he was right there during their hey day! Oh well! I guess it wasn't meant to be. Carl Carlton had a good career, anyway. As his hit "Bad Mamma Jamma" was a monster hit song, back in the day!

Why do you think every singer in Detroit should have been signed to Motown. Some in and out the city didn't want to. Motown nearly 100 artists signed in the 60s of which maybe 20 you heard about and 8 or 9 who were successful. The number of artists who rejected their 7 year all exclusive contracts would boggle your brain! Did you know Parliarment was with them nearly 5 years and didn't have a single record released?

@@trinidad179 I'm very well aware that there are a number of successful artists from Detroit that didn't sign with Motown. Artist such as: Aretha Franklin, The Dramatics, Carl Carlton, Freda Payne, just to name a few. I knew that George Clinton and Parliament auditioned for Motown, but I thought that they were rejected because of their look. I didn't know that Parliament actually signed with Motown. But it's obvious that George Clinton, and other great Detroiters, have done well without Motown.
