One nice feature of the Milwaukee is that it's flat top serves as a stool for sitting. I sit on it when I'm cutting in receptacles in old work. Saves my knees and I can switch it on to pickup debris created without getting up off it. In the truck because of it's flat top you can easily stack other tool boxes on top. Not possible with the DeWalt!

@styledliving5 жыл бұрын
Despite the fact I like Milwaukee more, the only reason I got the Dewalt is because it had the backup extension cord and the extension wand tucked away in the handle. That's enough to pick the Dewalt even though its blower is weaker.
@robertthompson28508 жыл бұрын
Power trumps runtime for a battery only option but corded trumps power with battery only. If I'm vacuuming my suv 14 minutes might not cut it. On the other hand multiple batteries could solve that issue if you remember to keep them all charged. On the other hand if you forget to keep the batteries charged you can always still use it right away with the DeWalt.
@jamedonovan35559 жыл бұрын
I own the (similar) previous version of the DeWalt. I use it around the workshop and in the house all the time. Also, I use the blower more than I'd planned: blowing up air mattresses, cleaning computers, quick cleanups outside on my deck & sidewalk. I chose the DW as I have lots of 18v XRP betteries (and tools). I'd guess runtime is 15 min for this version. I have lots of batteries so not an issue for me.
@tomdontmatter68397 жыл бұрын
The whole purpose of a portable vac is....portability. Knowing it's a battery tool means short run jobs that don't required long periods of usage. If I were going to vacuum out the whole room then the big commercial Shop Vac comes out. If just the top of the workbench or floors in the car then this thing is perfect. My idea of a vacuum cleaner is that you can never have too much vacuum. For that reason the Milwaukee wins. No need for the AC cord on a battery unit. If I use the AC cord then the good ol Shop Vac is called in. Match the size of the tool to the job.

2 advantages Milwaukee has over the DeWalt is that with the flat top you can sit on it if your are working close to the floor and also you can stack other stuff on top because of the flat top for transport or store.

I have had my Milwaukee for over a year now and have to say it's been a valuable asset for cleaning up those small jobs. I do wish that it had the option of using a cord though. Does the DeWalt charge the battery as well?
@ToolCraze9 жыл бұрын
Mike L. the dewalt corded vac doesn't charge a battery although it would be great if it did.
@befru7 жыл бұрын
As other people have said, The Milwaukee probably won't need a long run time if it is picking up the mess faster. It looks like it can do more work in the 14 minutes than the DeWalt could do in 20. It only takes 30 seconds to change the battery so the run time only matters if you only have 1 battery. I recently got the Milwaukee and I was very impressed with the suction. Now I just need some M12 9AH batteries.

What an awesome review. Thanks so much. I’ve been a little obsessed over these two cordless vacs and you helped me in my decision.
@astonclulow93635 жыл бұрын
Battery life is the big thing with vacuums. Working in data centres we have to use vacuums as dust extractors whenever we drill, and are constantly cleaning up after ourselves. Heavy battery consumption equates to not having a vacuum a lot of the time (and having to run a lead across the room and carry a corded vacuum, which is a lot of work when you're doing in-ceiling or underfloor). It makes a world of difference that I have a brushless (Makita) vacuum, the other guys are constantly borrowing it. The only problem with it is that the reservoir is too small to use with the (rotary) hammer drill, I'm considering the DeWalt box vacuum for that reason. Milwaukee tools are very good, but I think they're overpowered (break too much, hard to feather the trigger, get through batteries too quickly). A workmate of mine has the Milwaukee backpack vacuum, and he had to go out and buy a 9Ah and 12Ah battery to run it. The 12Ah takes half a day to charge, I'd rather run a lead!

I have used both and purchased the Milwaukee. It has noticably more suction power and can be sat on/stacked with the flat top. The two downsides are the lack of a cord option and the shorter run time. Both of these concerns can be solved by buying a larger battery or two. DeWalt's cord doesn't charge the battery anyway; otherwise, that would be a solid advantage. Because the DeWalt cannot make up for the lack of power; therefore I chose the Milwaukee.

I only use it to vacuum my 2 cars and my kids little messes at home. I can only imagine how long it would last if I used it everyday for work. Thinking about getting the Milwaukee but all my tools are dewalt 20v.

Great video!! I really like the dewalt because it has a power cord and battery operated. It would be really neat if it could charge the battery that's in it while being plugged in. I'd like to see Milwaukee come out with a corded and battery operated vacuum also. Bottom line is if your into dewalt platform or Milwaukee platform you're going to go with the one that you already have. I have 3.0 Milwaukee batteries I wonder how long it would run the vacuum. Probably close to 10 minutes I'm guessing.

I agree with others, the Milwaukee vacuum makes a great stool for sitting on while you type up notes or fill out paper work, etc. Plus it's shape allows you to set tools on top of it, i.e. flashlight, etc. I wouldn't recommend it, but you could probably even stand on it for a little boost to see over something. It stores inside of a work truck perfectly. The box shape makes it ideal for sticking on a shelf. I agree the hose could use some upgrading, but it doesn't just flop around like it was shown in the video, you can leave it plugged in and curl it around and it will stay wound up.

I'd take the Dewalt the power of the Milwaukee was slightly better but the Dewalt had much better runtime and milwaukee wasn't twice as powerful 3 seconds faster isn't a deal braker
@ToolCraze7 жыл бұрын
it's definitely much more powerful by my guesstimate about twice. Keep in mind twice the power doesn't always equal twice as fast as most people would think. Will double the horsepower in a vehicle make it twice as fast? will it accelerate twice as fast? The answer is NO. So try them both vacs out for yourself and you'll see the difference in suction and blower performance
@ariip8 жыл бұрын
As you use a vacuum the filter gets clogged and your suction goes down. If the dewalt is weaker, than that suction gets to a useless point much sooner. The milwaukee still has enough range to work with.

Good video with great information and performance. Im wondering how these vacuum work when collecting fine dust if the filter clogs. I have a few cordless vacuums. The hitachi and the bosch 18 volt. I find the vacuum is good on the bosch but the filter clogs easily. What I like to see is the option of connecting to a power tool. This may require 36 volt and say 7.5 amp hour like the 56 volt ego lawn mower. Seems the milkwaukee has a good function for sitting down and stacking tools on top.

To be fair the Milwaukee design is actually quite a few years older than that particular dewalt. I do like the 120v feature that dewalt provides, but I'll stick with my Milwaukee. It's casing is tidier on the shelves of my work truck and with the 5ah and 9ah batteries runtime worry isn't a thought in my mind. I'm a Milwaukee guy simply because they have a better warranty and they manufacture certain tools for my trade that dewalt can't touch. And there is nothing worse than having two battery systems in one vehicle.
@ariip8 жыл бұрын
Protecting the attachments under the top is more important, as is being able to stack items on top or use the vacuum as a seat as one other user mentioned. This is a much more valuable feature. The attachments exposed on the top on the dewalt, will be banged and broken as will the clips that hold them since they are all exposed. Protecting them is very important and will extend the life a usability of the tool. I have no issue with how the hose stores on the milwaukee. My vac sits in the truck and I step on it, store things around it and the like. The dewalt would have been broken many times already as would the attachments.
@ToolCraze8 жыл бұрын
There are no clips that hold the dewalt attachments, the body itself is molded to fit the attachments
@ROTAXD7 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking that while professionals will likely lean more towards the milwaukee, diy'ers & homeowners will likely gravitate to the dewalt. Why ? Because of the cost of mileaukees other cordless tools being prohibitive. From what I've experienced, homeowners want to be able to use their cordless batteries in their other tools besides the vac, and cost usually determines what the homeowner will purchase.
@ToolCraze7 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Name a Dewalt cordless power tool that is considerably less expensive than the Milwaukee equivalent? Name one

Ok what you are comparing is not apples to apples. The Dewalt drill doesn't even compare to the milwaukee model you shown. For starters the milwaukee model you showed is a brushless newer model compact drill with lithium ion batteries. The batteries are more compact, lighter and hold a higher capacity than the dewalt model you showed. The Dewalt model is their old 18V system that is basically dead and discontinued, they still sell 18V tools yes but they are hard to find and they don't make any new models. All the love went to the 20V dewalt system. Plus that dewalt drill uses older nicad battery tech thats not as good as lithium, those batteries are huge compared to the new compact lithium batteries and are 1.2 ah which is less than the milwaukee as I mentioned. Also the dewalt drill you showed is not even brushless while the milwaukee model you showed is. Brushless is better technology and you will never see that on dewalts 18V system, you'll find brushless tools on their newer 20V system. Another reason why the dewalt model is not similar. Remember I told you to name on model that is EQUIVALENT and the dewalt model you showed is not anywhere near the equivalent to the milwaukee model. That is why it's lower priced because compared to the milwaukee model you showed, it is inferior in so many ways. If you want to see a Dewalt model similar to the milwaukee brushless m18 compact model you mentioned, here it is: amzn.to/2CbIIrv and as you can see that is apples to apples to the milwaukee model and is the same exact price thank you very much. Dewalt is not cheaper than Milwaukee, they are two similar brands and offer similar pricing. That is why I disagree with your original comment and your second comment did not prove your point as they are not apples to apples. What you did was compare something like a toyota yaris thats lower priced to a honda accord (higher priced)

@richardselby17115 жыл бұрын
I think I prefer the enclosed tools on the Milwaukee. It's too easy to knock accessories off outside mounted units. It's obvious why the run time on the Milwaukee is less, it does more work, I'll just put a larger battery in for a longer run time. Space is always a premium in my service Van so being able to stack on top of the Milwaukee is a plus. The only pluses I see with the Dewalt is the cord and hose storage. On the other hand, just about every Tradesman will or should have plenty of batteries ready to go. I think the Milwaukee just barely edges out the Dewalt for me. The next generation Milwaukee wet/dry vac will more than likely have the cord option and better hose storage.
@MyFortressConstruction5 жыл бұрын
So, the test shows exactly what you'd expect. Dewalt has twice the runtime, and looks about 3/4 as powerful. Both of them aren't going to replace your big shopvacs and it will just depend on what you are planning on using them for as to whether or not you need that extra bit of suction. I personally have the DeWalt and hardly use it because it's so weak. That additional power, if it is significant enough, might be nice, especially since I rarely use it for more than 5-10 mins of runtime anyways. Well, let's hope they come out with a large Flexvolt/120v shopvac on wheels that's reasonably priced. I would buy it for sure and get rid of this little car vac and my standard size vac...

not true, watch closely and the pile was done much sooner than dewalt, what you see is the milwaukee continuing to pick up small bits left over but the bulk was done much sooner.

What half the people seem to not grasp, is that productivity is all about performance and efficiency. When a vacuum is not as powerful, it is worthless compared to one that is. The whole purpose of this product is to go cordless. If I want a corded vacuum, then I will pull out my corded vacuum. The milwaukee is nearly as powerful as many cordeds, runtime of 14 mins is more than enough to clean up several messes. They make 5 ah, 6ah, and now 9ah batteries. Changing a battery is still easier than running and dragging around a cord. I think too many just lack any sense. Here is the other point. If THE CLEAN UP TAKES LESS TIME BECAUSE IT IS MORE POWERFUL, THAN THE RUNTIME IS NOT AS MUCH OF A FACTOR. IF A VACUUM LACKS ENOUGH POWER TO PICK UP OR IS MORE OF A STRUGGLE, THEN IT IS USELESS ANYWAY.
@ToolCraze8 жыл бұрын
The dewalt 20v is just as powerful as a corded portable 1-1/4 hp koblenz vac I used to have. I think you're comparing these cordless vacs to much larger corded vacs which is not fair because larger vacs would obviously have more powerful suction. Also the fact that these aren't as powerful as much larger vacs isn't a weakness. They have plenty of power for their intended purpose of small cleanups with portability being a major deciding factor. Larger vacs are great because they have impressive suction but not everyone needs the added power or size. Before I got the small koblenz I used to use a massive 14 gallon 5 hp model and only used it to pick up the small messes from undercutting door jambs with my multitool. I'm this case the huge vacuum was overkill. The small koblenz was the perfect size and even though had a lot less power, was plenty for the task. I think either of these dewalt or Milwaukee vacuums are better than the Koblenz because they were around the same size, power and cordless. Actually the Milwaukee had more power than the Koblenz
@jcbnorman127 жыл бұрын
Ari P your totally right. To me a vacuum that cant suck up anything gets thown across the room but usually there is a way to fix that. And I really like the box shape for the fact that it stacks. Works as a little work station and or chair/stool depending on how much one weighs

Yes I saw that but we buy cordless for a reason. I bought the milwaukee seems to do the job fine . The reason I bought the milwaukee is I have many battles and dewalt for some reason has been changing the battery profile. The milwaukee has stayed with the m18 profile.
@ToolCraze7 жыл бұрын
DeWalt is compatible with both batteries. Also Milwaukee changed batteries a while back also from their v18 to m18. Basically all brands except for Ryobi have changed batteries so it happens to all brands
@whiskeycreek40389 жыл бұрын
Ha, I spoke to soon on my last post. I would go with the Dewalt just because it has the cord.
@ariip8 жыл бұрын
The silly thing is the whole purpose of these products is to go cordless. If I am going to rely on a corded vacuum, I will pull out my corded vacuum which is more powerful but still convenient in size. I keep a corded vacuum as well but I hardly use it now because the milwaukee is very powerful and they make bigger batteries anyway such as the 5ah, 6ah and 9ah. If a vacuum like the dewalt is not powerful enough, it is useless and takes too long so runtime means nothing at all.

@@ToolCraze I was stating a fact that inclusive to all battery chemistries. Simply put, if they are charged/discharged faster, they will lose capacity faster than a slower cycle.

Hahaha, Javer didn't the pitchforks this time picking a winner :) I think while the Milwaukee performed better all the options on the Dewalt plus being able to run of ac puts it ahead over Milwaukee. The Milwaukee is a much older Vacuum though. TIA reviewed it back in 2011, and I don't know of that was when it was released either.
@ToolCraze9 жыл бұрын
DarkRaptor99 Haha yeah, there was a clear winner for endurance and a clear winner for power performance. Although winner overall was a harder decision and will leave that up to you guys to decide. So far the angry mob's have pretty much secluded themselves to the mortar combat and need for speed impact driver videos. They're still festering over on those videos lol

Tool Craze It's one of those things your not buying to a cordless brand on which one has the best vacuum either. Isn't that happening soon the Milwaukee event? That's early June right? Plus Dewalt is doing one this year too.

DarkRaptor99 what's happening at the event?

Tool Craze You know the general showing off the new tools for the rest of 2015 and part of 2016. Hoping they put out a new M18 Vacuum the old one is really old now they could do something cooler I know it.
@ToolCraze9 жыл бұрын
a new brushless vac would be awesome. Can't wait to see what they'll come out with next. They had lots of great products showcased from last event
@philipmerritt33168 жыл бұрын
I like them both but I dont know how much the power difference will translate into time saving for all those small clean-up jobs unless you are using this for jobs that are in fact meant for larger vacs? Also runtime shouldnt be that much an issue for people with multiple batteries. The kicker for me was the Dewalt corded version but both seem great all around.
@ToolCraze8 жыл бұрын
+Philip Merritt for most jobs the power difference isn't a big deal. That is until you start vacuuming upholstery like in a car. You'll definitely see the difference there.
@kevinmususa90578 жыл бұрын
can you compare them to ridgid's 18v shopvac
@TetraSky Жыл бұрын
If only the Milwaukee had a way to plug it into the wall as well. Cordless when you need to. Corded when you have access to the wall.

Do you know if ryobi has a cordless vacuum?
@ToolCraze9 жыл бұрын
Love2boat92 they have an 18v dust buster. And according to dr99 they used to have a wet dry vac

Even though the dewalt has more run time some task take a bit more time to complete so it seems shorter battery but faster clean up but he dewalt probably still gets you a bit more clean up. It's a tough decision since the dewalt comes corded. That makes me want the dewalt even though I run Milwaukee tools and dont have dewalt batts.
@bobmanp86534 жыл бұрын
the dewalt has a 90 degree turn in it when it reaches the cover from the hose and is very small and very small stuff plugs if...this happens often and is very fn frustrating.
@martyapo6 жыл бұрын
You neglected a major factor in deciding between the two... volume. If one is quieter than the other then that would break the tie between run-time and suction power.
@ToolCraze6 жыл бұрын
no, I didn't as they are both abnoxiously loud

Try a new 60 volt battery on the vacuum cleaner
@Est91.6 жыл бұрын
The flex battery doesn't change performance, the flex battery just means you could use that battery on both the 60 volt line & the 20 volt line, it makes no difference in performance

It's not part of the pack out system. Those came out several years after the Milwaukee vacuum

I'd get Dewalt since I own some 20v drills, 4 seconds slower than milwaukee not going to make me change line of tools.
@W3TFART5 жыл бұрын
With double the run time dewalt is the winner by far . Imagine a decent vacuum job taking 25 mins Milwaukee user would burn 2 battery’s and save 60 seconds lol

I just bought the DeWalt today. Can't wait to return it. If I said it sucked, that would be a good thing, but it sucks at sucking. Gonna go Milwaukee.

Good thing the Dewalt have the extended run time because you will need twice as much time to pick up your debris...we have the Dewalt at work, and even though I love the cord, they just don't have any pizzazz.... Milwaukee has the power but comes at a price...no runtime....but these vacs are designed for small cleanups so that shouldn't matter as much...
@RabidMortal18 жыл бұрын
+gospos1 The DeWalt was like 3 seconds slower in the suction test. That's not a huge difference.

Thanks for the Video ! Really enjoyed it ! I like the Dewalt because of its size. The problem is that the size is not what’s gonna get the job done. Performance is it and Milwaukee is the clear winner 🥇

for my use (vacuuming window tracks) the dewalt would be better, BUT I got a kit of the milwaukee $150. vacuum, charger, and 5AH battery (don't need the charger). The closest thing for the dewalt is individual for $230! I don't need the power I need run time, but the milwaukee is much cheaper!
@ToolCraze6 жыл бұрын
the Dewalt in this video has a built in cord so you really don't need the $230 to make it run out of the box like you state

The DeWalt is made to run longer, but the Milwaukee is built to get shit done. You can always get the bigger battery to cope with endurance. Just about any tool that's high on performance is going to eat batteries. Milwaukee's compact 18V impact driver turns a whopping 2000 lbs of torque......DeWalt's 20V only turns 1850 lbs torque, but again, it will run a little longer. So to keep on running rings around a DeWalt, all you need is more maH in your 18V batteries. But it still all comes down to personal preference between the tools.

Thank you for the video. 😅I love Dewalt, but obviously Milwaukee seems to be improving😮 and advancing much more on everything.
