Definetley not mutual respect. Dexter even talks about it when they first start talking with Doakes in the cage, calling him out saying "I know what you're doing." Referring to his army Ranger training, in which Doakes definetley would have gone through SERE, maybe some other trainjng, and utilized that training to try to empathize with Dexter. In hopes of course to exploit a hole in Dexter's morals and emotions. The best way to do that would be to play devils advocate, sympathize, brush up his character by telling him he's better than this, that he knows deep down he doesn't want to keep doing what he's doing, and that he knows the right thing to do would be to turn himself in and to let him go. Dexter isn't fazed by this stuff to the point of turning himself in, because he knows what hes doing, UNTIL Doakes brings up his father, and he learns that his father really died because of him which shakes his code and the principals he lives his life off of. It takes Doakes a minute but you can see he starts to realize that it's a weakness to exploit and he utilizes it to coax Dexter to his side. Dexter probably knew that the entire time, but I think he really was just using Doakes as a conduit to express his thoughts, more than really sympathizing with him and them getting buddy buddy. In essence they're both appealing to eachother for a sense of self subservience, Doakes for his survival, and Dexter scrambling to find his sense of self.

The part where Doakes said “ Dexter” , instead of Morgan, and he returned it by saying James, it felt emotional, it felt like they had mutual respect towards each other despite everything.
@prettyanxious9982
@prettyanxious9982 7 күн бұрын
I think the writers were actually trying to show that deep down, both Dexter and doakes want each other. Dexter wants to “turn himself in” (no straight man would ever “turn” to anything besides being straight) Doakes obviously wants dexter to rub his cock through his jeans while tounge kissing, the look at 1:56 says it all.

Doakes supporting Dexter would have ruined his character. Doakes is a soldier, someone who is no stranger to killing, yet he believes in the system and due process. The writers missed an opportunity by Dexter not murdering Doakes. Dexter's dilemma was resolved rather weakly by Lila West murdering Dexter allowing him to continue as he was before. If it would have been Dexter's choice to either turn himself in, go through with his frame job, or kill Doakes, it would have much more of an impact on Dexter.

Doubt it because Dexter was the KEY to get Doakes his job back as Sergeant of Miami Metro Homicide. Remember he was put on administrative leave a couple episodes before he caught dexter all thanks to that headbutt Dexter gave him lol Plus he was trapped in a cage all over again. In Doakes eyes, it was escape the cage, don’t get killed by Dexter and arrest him - ultimately turning him in and getting his job back as Sergeant (probably with better pay) since HE turned in the real Bay Harbor Butcher. Boom end of series and Sexter Morgan gets the Electric Chair hence Florida’s Death Penalty. (bro killed like a good 40-50 or so people already so they would 100% push for him to be executed)

Only 30? Those are rookie numbers. I've been asking the dryer where my missing socks are for years. She keeps saying, "I'm your wife, not a damn dryer!" but I know it's just stalling. Point is, don't marry a dryer.

Most countries does that. Only country i can think of that has a clear and cut story line that they don't really extend on it, is probably korea their seasons are just as long but everything is not forced.

Spoiler alert! Dexter turned himself in. He got multiple lifetimes in prison. Doakes was promoted. He took over from the retired Lundy. You can watch the spin-off show about him and his team hunting down serial killas called Surprise Mazafaka! Great show! Debra quit. Opened a bar together with Angel. The end.

Doakes differs from Dexter only in that he is a hypocrite and an unbalanced jerk He also killed a man under a bridge and hid this fact from the police The greatest moralists are always guilty of what they accuse others of

Maybe that was also a question for moral grayness for viewers to think. Doakes is a police officer and seems on the side of law that is supposed to protect the people. He does awesome job BUT he is also a bit vigilante that shoots and kills people on the side and lies about it and the department covers up. So he is using his knowledge about certain people (bad people with warcrimes in the past according to him) to justify killing. As viewers we see how he is using his moral code as a higher code than law. But since the killings are just shootings, we dont see them as a gore-loving monster and a lot of people close to him kinda understands him and give him a pass. On the other hand Dexter kills until he is 100% certain that the victim IS guilty. But the way he process is cold blooded, calculated, ritualistic and very gorey. But that is also for a reason. If Dexter could get away leaving the corpse behind and there is a whole department covering for him, he wouldnt need to chop up human body parts and all those disgusting things to get rid of the body. Imagine if Doakes f'ed up a kill and if he cannot get rid of the body he would lose his job and go to prison. I think he is totally capable of what Dexter would do to see another day outside prison. But the way Dexter is stigmatized is way worse due to the inhumane part that the violence is more vivid. I think its a good depiction of the classic trolley problem. Most people initially agree to turn the key to save 5 people sacrificing one. But when the same question is formed in the way of pushing one person to stuck the train to save 5 people the number of people say "they would" drops drastically since they are more involved and it feels more like a murder than simple trolley change. That's why i also thought, out of all the people, Doakes would be the one most understanding him. His past in special ops made him see how bad the world is and his protective side is actually more to vigilante than following the law blindlessly. They could be a super duo like Season 3 theme. But ofc that's from the outside look. Dexter's reason to kill isnt to save an innocent life, so that's the monster part in him. Doakes slowly learning that process that his motivation isnt to save life but to enjoy murder would make hell of a story to watch.
