Pretty sure this Johanna is just the next Crusader to have taken the name since she's still young despite D3 happened decades ago. She even says in D3 that she took her master's NAME and armor, meaning that her own apprentice would likely do the same with her once she falls or retires. Also the obvious elephant in the room being that D3's Johanna was involved against Diablo and Malthael and survived them both, but died here against some random weirdos. If she survived massive demonic invasions, Prime Evils and fallen Angels, she wouldn't die against normal dudes.

Yeah, the details and the lore of the naming convention itself all point to the dead Johanna being the D3 Johanna's apprentice (or apprentice's apprentice depending on other factors) who was bestowed the name and armor after the D3 Johanna eventually retired from either old age. The corpse of the Johanna in D4 is a young woman, so it's impossible for it to be D3 Johanna since she'd be very old by now.

If i know anything...she will only rest when her duty in the cycle is concluded. Such is the fate of every necromancer." The group arrived. "Well,my mentor awaits." The necromancer nodded. "Indeed. I don't think it's meant to be Johanna for two reasons, and the devs don't seem to be pointing in that direction either. Compare to the D2 Paladin sidequest story, where they leave lot's of easter eggs to tie that story to the fate of D2 paladin. There's barely any in this story, besides the character having the name Johanna, a name that we know was not her real name and that she took her master's shield and name after their death, so it would make sense that her student would have done the same and that would probably be who we are seeing dead. Like, this is 50 years after D3...it would make absolute sense that Johanna has already died either in combat or from old age before we start this story.

While I enjoy Johanna as a character from Heroes of the Storm, I'm of the belief that the canon Crusader from Diablo 3 is Anajinn from the 'The End of Her Journey' short story that Blizzard released instead. For one, it fits more narratively since she does make mention that she's investigating a disturbance in Tristram at the end of the story. Second, as per the weapons in Diablo 3 that were tied to Johanna, the tooltip blurbs state that she suddenly and mysteriously went missing (presumably stumbling into the Nexus). Without an apprentice to carry on her crusade, her weapons, and place in the order-her name was stricken from the rolls and roster of the Crusaders. If we're to take all of that as canon, a Johanna shouldn't even exist anymore. Unless of course the Crusader order from Diablo 3 has changed rather drastically in Diablo 4 in just half a century and isn't precisely the same one that was introduced to us. Given how entirely bleak it all seems to be on Sanctuary from the Fractured Peaks to the swamps of Hawezar as of this installment, it wouldn't surprise me if even the mighty Crusaders have fallen so far in less than a generation. Humbling and saddening-as I love the Crusader and its lore-but entirely on-brand

The crusaders and paladins are both offshoots of the same order originally so it’s always possible that this sect of crusaders is an offshoot of the one we saw, besides that if we recall Johanna from D3s primary objective was always the redemption of the zakarun faith. If she was successful prior to her disappearance it’s also possible like historically has happened within various churches in our own history that the zakarun faith went through a period of reform and change.

@@RageUnchained "besides that if we recall Johanna from D3s primary objective was always the redemption of the zakarun faith." Isn't that pretty much the primary objective of all the Crusaders that Akkhan originally assembled? And has been for each apprentice they've taken over the generations? I mean, sure. Each Crusader had their own idea how to go about their journey-like how Anajinn seeks the Light, whatever form that may take-but the entire brotherhood's objective is the redemption of the faith. My take on the canon Crusader being Anajinn-instead of Johanna-is also thematically fitting. Anajinn is the 'Seeker of the Light', as far as the order is concerned, and the latest iteration of Anajinn awakened to power within herself: her nephalem birthright. It goes full circle with Akarat having witnessed the nephalem Uldyssian's sacrifice during the Sin War, mistaking it as a visitation from the 'angel' Yaerius. Akarat preached Zakara, or the "inner light", and Anajinn manifested it-just as the other heroes did

@@OldBaldWookiee I didn't say they didnt follow you and kill the demons. Your initial point was that this is the corpse of the same crusader as the player character in D3, because people dont retire from killing demons in Diablo universe. My counter-argument was - yes people do retire, and both characters you brought up in fact did retire from their Horadric duties prior to the events of D4. It's only after you, the Wanderer, visit both of them and convinces them to help you, that they become "unretired". And yes, Deckard Cain was one stubborn old man, so he did pursue the knowledge and fight demons until his last days, so he is the rare example of somebody who never retired. But the point remains, most people do retire with age. So when we find a corpse of Johanna half a century after we last saw her, that looks nothing like her and is too young to be the same Johanna, it is safe to assume that Johanna from D3 either retired or died long ago, and the corpse we find in Maugan's folly is Johanna's apprentice who donned her armor and the name as is their tradition.

What happens to Sonya the Barbarian? She became a cannibal boss of the Dry Steps known "The Snu Snu"?
@Basada79 Жыл бұрын
Shouldnt she be an old laddy now? Its 50 years later and all other characters aged appropriately. LOVE your work. Big big fan of all your videos

Yeah, either that's an apprentice, or some random bandits are more deadly than the Angel of Death... I know which is more plausible to me.

Think I agree with some of the comments that it could be a different Johanna we see here instead of the Nephelim Johanna from D3, there were no mentions of increadible Nephelim powers in this guest either...

Diablo IV is basically “hey did you main crusader? Too bad, we’re gonna rain death and pain unimaginable on them.”

if only all side quests were as interesting as this. This is literally the only side quest I remember
@voidsentoni5977 Жыл бұрын
Ah this side quest.. this is one side quest I remember most bc the line "You can't be serious Tomyris..." repeating when visiting the inn 😂

I get a whole bunch of ghost lines in various areas around the map. Usually areas where quest NPCs used to be at some point during the story. Must be a bug, cause the characters that say these lines arent even there anymore. I just hear a random voice talking with nobody around, still startles me sometimes lol

You are a great story teller. Read me a bedtime story of the old days before the fall of The Lord of Destruction, Baal.

Every playable character in D3 were all Nephalim. I honestly think that whom ever you chose had a reason for not coming back in some way, shape or form. This Johanna is not the same person. Jus the same name. Wether given to or self appointed.

The playable crusader from D3 is Anajinn, not Johanna. Plus looking at the end of this quest, Johanna looks like a title among crusaders.
@feanorwindwhispers9936 Жыл бұрын
Johanna was not the heroine from Diablo 3, her name was actually Anajinn,that is the reason why Johanna has fair hair. It is stated by Myriam that whe heroes will have a calm life after defeating Malthael. It like Sonya from HotS, Kerr is the main Character in Diablo 3, Sonya is for HotS.

Because the lore is super muddled, of course the conquerer of the one prime evil would randomly fall in a swamp where a random level twenty Necromancer can crush it.
@stalarionjagarn188 Жыл бұрын
Exactly, but I'm inclined to think like many in the comment that this was an apprentice and not the nephalem herself.

Would be nice to add her as a crusader skin when they add the character.

I do not believe that Johanna is the player's Crusader, but a legendary name of a different crusader in the line. The items Johanna's Argument and Guard of Johanna both describe a different hero than that of our player, but I suppose D3 doesn't tell you that you cannot be Johanna as she is absent from the game. Either way, this video is great.

Man, this stories made me want to PLAY ALL characters in Diablo universe! They gottta bring back all these heroes to Diablo 4. Come on now. Bring back all those and some new characters.

It could also happend that the Johanna from Diablo 3 died of old age and this Johanna we found dead is her apprentice just carry the name in his honnor.

We need Crusader class since the paladin’s order is no more. It could be the beginning of restoring the paladin order maybe?

Oh man! It looked like the previous Johanna in diablo 3 had perished. But at least her legacy lives on to another female crusader.
@Jackson-pd2vj Жыл бұрын
All im just hoping that in the new DLC there is a Crusader class. It would only make sense because there is no holy class in D4.

9:30 and race . That one doesn't look like The Crusader from Diablo 3 at all .

All I’m getting from the videos I’ve seen about all the previous player charaters is don’t fight against hell because it ends horribly even if you are victorious

Diablo 4 reveals the fates of some past Diablo 2 and 3 heroes who fought against the Prime Evils, 1st its Carthas the D2 Paladin and now Johanna the female D3 Crusader. I hope we got more info about the rest of the heroes like the D2 Barbarian, Assassin, Druid and the rest of D3 characters.

The corpse looks different from the Johanna in Diablo 3 so it's no doubt her apprentice.
@LoreMaster007 Жыл бұрын
“Inside her beats a mortal heart that will be tempted by corruption. On that day will she have the strength to resist or will she be our doom?!” 50 years later she gets killed by a no body. Great job Blizzard. Love to see that you put effort into the story. 😂

Considering that the heroes of D3 were Nephilem, it should have taken a lot to end any of them.

crusader best class i enjoyed playing but since everyone gets a horse in D4 no point playing it without crusader.
@theodorsik Жыл бұрын
So… was the crusader not a nephelim?
@odinulveson9101 Жыл бұрын
Paladins, Crusaders. And what about we finally get to play and learn more about the TEMPLARS alredy? The Templars were ruthless and male only but could reform themself. Then we got Three distinct tincan factions with varying takes on protecting the innocent, if not the light and whoop demons and devils behinds.
@aguiar6636 Жыл бұрын
So Crusader got killed by random mobs like a punk.... When she fought against hordes and hordes of mythical demons in D3.... That makes perfect sense to me!
@briankay3146 Жыл бұрын
That corpse isn't even blond so it isn't the D3 Johanna. And if it is, yeah she probably died to a HC disconnect. Doesn't matter how good you are if that happens.

I think that dying from fighting bandits it's kind of a lame way to go for someone who actually fought the aspect of death and survived.
