I have a 2008 mariner. Having trouble and no codes. It drives fine while going down the road. When you go from park to reverse it starts to shake and acts like it wants to stall or does stall. It does the same when stopping for a stop sign or light. Mechanic says its the torque converter and the transmission needs to be replaced. Does this sound right? Mama of two handicap kiddos and that last thing i need is these problems. Any help would be appreciated! I did change the IACV, cleaned the Maf (which did stay cranked when i disconnected it while running) and i cleaned the throttle body. I also changed the air filter. I have the premier 3.0 v6 version 118k miles

I’d love to get a Mariner once I finish school in May.

Do yourself a favor and avoid the 2008-11 4 cylinder automatic version, get the V6 they have way less tranny problems. Check out my recent video on mechanically totalled cars where I talk about this Mariner's untimely demise.

All I can say is spend the money and buy the O.E. part.

Did replacing fuel pump permanent fix the issues? Did throttle body ever come into play?
@RogueWrenching2 жыл бұрын
The fuel pump permanently fixed this issue. Never had an issue with the throttle body, although they do have issues, generally when the throttle body has problems it sets codes.

when I have to buy a new battery it get stuck in drive and it engine goes fast and I can't stop it ,not less I think turn the key off. The break want stop it. This happen twice. What is wrong. It is very scary.

That's a very strange problem, and maybe more than one issue, if it's stuck in drive, that's one issue, throttle sticking is likely a separate issue. If it was me I'd start by cleaning the throttle body and have the engine codes pulled, most parts stores do this for free.

i have a 2006 mercury monterey , 87k miles on it. out of nowhere beginning to stall. battery is fine , engine stalls , steering gets tight and breaks freeze up a bit. any help would be appreciated ?
@RogueWrenching3 жыл бұрын
Justin, it could be quite a number of issues, to get a starting point you'll need to pull the codes and see what problems the engine computer is seeing, we could shotgun parts at it but without testing it would just be guessing. See if you can pull the codes and let me know what they are and I'll see what I can do to help.

@@RogueWrenching thank you! Only problem is there’s no check engine light . When it stalls the check engine comes on, but when I re start the van the light goes off. Of course when I have the mechanic take a ride with me the van doesn’t stall. Again thanks for your response. I hear the torque converter is an issue with these as well not sure if that could be it

@@jDot2414 when the engine stalls it turns the check engine light on, that is normal operation, just because there's no light doesn't mean there are no codes, some codes don't turn a light on right away. The next time it does this, drive it to your nearest auto parts store and have them pull the codes and see if anything is stored. I've never seen a torque converter cause an engine to intermittently stall.

@@RogueWrenching ok will do ! Do you think a code reader from auto zone would be able to get accurate codes ? Sorry I’m not the most mechanical lol. I can do an oil change that’s about it
@RogueWrenching3 жыл бұрын
@@jDot2414 that's a good place to start, not going to do as much as my snap on scan tool I used in this video, but hopefully it will give you a direction to go.
