We have a Husqvarna but your cadet is probably very similar. The pulley on top of the rear axle is easily removed by flipping the seat forward and removing the battery. There is a c-clip holding that pulley on, that is where you can get the slack without removing the engine from the frame. You bend the tabs with a small pry bar around the front pulley in order to get the belt back on that pulley. Engage the loose rear pulley into the belt and install it back onto the shaft, c-clip… bend the clips back with a hammer. Hopefully this helps.

My only thought on the belt situation is, since the front rim that holds the belt is not movable, does the back one loosen somehow to remove the tension so you can then put the front one on? I am not a mechanic by any stretch, but that came to me as you showed the problem. Loved that Henry was helping and he also loaned you his little shovel. How cute is that. Y'all have a Blessed day and BTW the chicks are precious.

I'm no mechanic but I did a bit of digging. There are you tube videos out there. I don't know your model . I just Googled the drive belt for Cub Cadet . I also looked up a few Cub Cadet dealers in TN. Those guys are usually pretty decent to try & help over the phone. I know in my rural area folks are more than happy to save you the trip . Wish I could be more help.

Hi there, my husband is my research pro, and he quickly pulled up a site that explains a 5-step process. But the key really is removing that bottom nut. Remove both spark plugs first. Try some WD40 to losen it, but make sure you have the right ratchet attachment. It's possibly cross-threaded, so try turning it the opposite way (righty-loosey). If that still doesn't work, you may need to bring it to a professional.

First check to see if the mower is in neutral. If it’s in any gear, there will be tension on the belt preventing you from moving it. It’s just like your deck blades. You have to move a lever to put tension on them in order for them to spin. The same with the drive belt. KZbin university has hundreds of videos for mower repair. You are not the first or last to have this issue. The answer is here, but it may take a few minutes to find.

I hope there's an instructional KZbin video out there or perhaps call the Cub Cadet dealer to see if they have instructions. That is extremely frustrating. The garden is looking good! Congrats on the new chicks. Perhaps all the eggs weren't fertilized. Did you candle them? They will have a great home. They don't need no stinkin' chicken tractor!

Hey Sean. You, first need to release the tension of the idler pulley (should be your brake). Then, those 2 belt guides should be nutted to the frame. Loosen the nuts so they will give you clearance. Make sure your belt is not twisted and mount it on the pulley. Tighten up the guide nuts, return tension on the idler pulley and done.
@kennethsword551

The engine pulley will be a lefty tighty righty loosey thread due to engine rotation.
@kennethsword551
@kennethsword551 14 күн бұрын
I did forget about some MTD made models use bent tabs of the frame metal. In that case, access is under the seat , battery removed. Be sure brake is applied to remove tension of the idler pulley. Trans pulley needs to come up and off the stub. Loosed motor bolts to move engine side to side while mounting the belt. Use a new belt. Then proceed under the seat to finish the job.

There’s a small bracket that aids in the belt NOT falling off. Unfortunately, that’s what your issue is. There’s a simple answer Sean, take a pair of locking pliers and lock onto the bracket, then bend it away from the pulley. Install the belt, and gently tap it back into place with a softer hammer.

We have the same mower but we've never had your issue. Here's what my husband suggests: Start with taking off the mower deck to make it easier to get to the transmission belt. He thinks there should be a spring loaded pulley back by the transmission. Take the belt off there then try to reattach. He also suggests seeing if there is something on KZbin. Good luck! Hopefully you have found a solution by now.

As someone who works on older mowers / garden tractors with rust stuck sitting for years hardware my advice would be as follows. 1st try sliding the engine back. 2nd bend the guides away (without bending the pulley) put your belt on and bend them back. 3rd remove all belts and get your spindle / bolt really really hot with a blow torch, in my experience impact drivers tend to break things off, try hitting the bolt with a hammer. __Do Not Round The Crank Bolt Off__ but give it a number of decent focused hits after you get it hot. If you are willing to, slinging the front end and lifting the mower vertical with your tractor could help you get to stuff, Make sure to drain gas and BE CAREFUL. Last.... take it in to get it fixed and then sell it and get something older with removable guides. Take my advice and what it have said at your own risk! Keep up to awesome vids!

Is there another spindle for the same belt that needs to be moved forward to release the pressure to let you reattach the belt? Another option might be to take off the deck to get access to it. The design of these lawn tractors are horrid. I usually have to get the belts attached by a dealer. If you purchased from a big box store the cub cadet dealers don't sell those models. The cub cadet dealer might be an option to get it service though if you have one near you

Cub Cadet is one of the worst rated mowers. We had a John Deere mower once also that we had lots of trouble with. Seems like the WalMart mowers did the best! We have a Bad Boy Zero turn now that we like. John Deere told my husband a certain part was MADE to go out every year! That soured us on John Deere. Our tractor is a Kubota and we've been happy with it. We use a gas golf cart with a box on back to run around and do little jobs.

Shawn take that belt off rear pully. This will let you put the front pully on. The rear pully will go on better than the front. If the guards on the front pully are to close you may need to pry them just a little. Rear pully will have access point under battery or seat. If belt comes of second time you could need new belt .And I should Google and you should Google. Oh yeh good looking boy there.

Sean you must take the bottom bolt out and drop the pulley that’s the correct way to do it they put locktite on from the factory if you can’t get the bolt out you can get a screwdriver and pry the metal away from the pulley slip the belt on then tap the metal back into place you can’t gain access by moving the engine it’s take the pulley off or bend the metal I love how everyone has a idea but I guess they never worked on anything just saying I know everyone wants to help but most people are just keyboard warriors I’ve been doing repairs for 40 years

@kathrynjones5858
@kathrynjones5858 14 күн бұрын
I think you are over thinking the problem. The belt guards must be screwed into place somehow. Search the guards and look at how they are attached. If you can remove one or two of the guards, you use a screw driver to divert the belt into the grove. Then simply reinstall the guards and screws. You might need to bend the guard out slightly to slip the belt back in place. Remember, it was there. It will go back. I had to replace a belt one. According to the manufacturer i had to remove the mower assembly to do it. All i had to do was unscrew the belt guard, Install the belt and reinstall the guard. Dont get angry. Anger gets in the way of logic. Think simple before to create a bigger repair bill.
@kathrynjones5858
@kathrynjones5858 14 күн бұрын
Your anger has shortened your ability to see. The belt slipped off. The belt can be slipped back on. I seriously doubt you have to lift the engine to replace a belt. I seriously doubt cub cadet would made it so difficult for a mechanic to slip the belt into place. Search youtube regarding the belt guards. I think that is really your answer.
