The right's talking points are everywhere in mainstream society. It's lefty stuff that is basically like "see that? That's bad" An example would be the patriarchy. It doesn't take any effort to adapt to a patriarchal society but it does take some to recognise problematic behaviour and it takes even MORE effort to recognise why they're problematic properly. The left has issues because it's that second step that people don't take, and because of that they just misunderstand what they're fighting for or against.

When the conversation swivelled to money and economic understanding and the left, a commenter in chat said "Michael Brooks and David Graeber's deaths really hurt the Left" Mannnn, those deaths really did hurt the Left. 2020 was a year full of tragedies, but when those two died it felt like a tragedy of lost promise, of missed opportunities. Those were the two leftist voices who impressed me the most. The voices that best combined leftism, humour, wit, intelligence, learning and compassion. Since those two died I haven't been able to find a voice like that on the left - someone who has a believable vision of the future and a strong understanding of the past and present, someone who's able to communicate those two things in a way that's just fucking electric. So much of the space out there now has been infected with a general disregard for facts, and an actual desire to produce something through the conversation rather than just driving home talking points. What interests me is that, so the guy offhandedly mentions weak U.N. sanctions as a tangent to say that's probably *not* we're talking about, but I think as a realistic policy, that's probably exactly what we're taking about, yeah? Like, would it be an unacceptable infringement of sovereignty to treat a decolonized country the way the U.S. treats Iran, for example? Like, it just seems like a weird, massive jump to me to immediately read "but we would still be able to set up a shadow bureaucracy to keep the decolonized in line, right?" into Vaush's question.

This reminds me of the Wolfe fan who went to Destiny after the Socialism debate. It's so annoying that so many personalities have these conflicts then the fans hash it out but it doesn't get connected so there's a feeling of certain chunks of audiences just spiraling off. It's like you can feel the potential left connection vanishing as they become crazy examples crashing upon Vaush's shores of pragmatism.

That debate was horrid, though. Richard Wolff literally argues for democratic capitalism and calls it socialism.
@JoeDirtisawsome2 жыл бұрын
@@Tacklepig socialism is when the workers control the means of productions. The workers control the means of productions under capitalism. Just because there are still markets, doesn't mean it's not real socialism. Markets existed before socialism

One outstanding problem with Vaush is that he brags and boast of himself too damn much. And that makes me really wonder about his true intentions for getting on the Internet and championing us "Black People". Just don't know about this guy at times.

Why couldn't people like this have the youtube channels instead of insane people? The world would be a better place. I guess probably because nuanced discussion isn't actually entertaining enough to get views.

When I saw the title, I thought it was gonna be another Vaush slaughter fest… it was nice seeing him in a DISCUSSION again… debates are good, and “debunk videos” are good, but having two people who might disagree have a conversation and just TALK about things instead of screaming, mocking, or listening to RedSkull refuse to say yes/no for 2.5hrs was nice lol

I describe myself as a "champagne socialist" sometimes because I want the de-commodification of life essentials like housing and healthcare, but I also know that people will want luxury items to enjoy, especially after automation makes it so people need to do less physically/mentally to keep things running day-to-day. PS10 VR Holopods in your well-maintained, brick brownstone public housing when?
@unreasonablyagreeable10812 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I feel the same. As much as I want everyone to hear Healthcare, housing, livable wages, etc etc... I like driving a BMW. I like owning my own home and other luxury items. If people don't want or like these things, thats fine but you can't deny people things that have already existed because "communism" says it shouldn't exists. Why I can't be a communist, especially a broke ass tankie.
@vulpixelful2 жыл бұрын
@@unreasonablyagreeable1081 To be fair, I don't think modern communism is the same as eastern bloc austerity. But a lot of people in online leftist communities are very young and/or been screwed over economically by our current system. People who aren't getting their basic life needs met no matter how much they work don't really want care to talk about luxury goods. But I know most of the broader world will _not_ be on board with de-commodifying life essentials if it means they cannot have a desirable quality of life with some nice things. Plus, things that were considered luxuries have room to become commonplace, like washing machines and toasters. Even though I'm gainfully employed and well-housed now, I remember what it was like when I wasn't and can appreciate how easily I can get back there with the onset of one debilitating health emergency. But now I also appreciate leisure time and I want everyone to have more of it. With technology, it's practically inevitable. I'm definitely not a "work camp" old world leftist Luddite...
@Tacklepig2 жыл бұрын
@@vulpixelful I agree somewhat. I also think that luxury goods (and monetary rewards) are important to get certain jobs done in a de-commodified society. You know that right-wing argument about "who will shovel shit in the sewers under socialism?" yeah, this is the answer to that. Give the people who do the unpopular jobs lots of cash, have them get the most luxury out of life because they suffer the most from society. I think a lot of leftists are stuck a bit in the past with their ideas of "seizing the means of production" etc
@Tacklepig2 жыл бұрын
@@unreasonablyagreeable1081 tbh I agree except for the BMW part, I feel like private cars should be abolished. For different reasons though, not because of communism, just because objectively not having them is better for the environment, and cities not being built mostly for car use ends up being way better for the health of the inhabitants. Also, btw: your view is not incompatible with even extremely far left positions. Like I'm 100% anticapitalist and think people should have nice things, just that also everyone should be on a base level that allows them to live comfortably even if they don't work for shit.
