Did I Miss Out on a Porsche GT2 RS? | TRACK TEST

This is the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS, and everything you want to know about it! I join Dunlop at their facility in the South of France to experience the car to the fullest with both their Sport Maxx Race 2 tyres and a new prototype that takes it even further. From starting off with a walkaround to introduce the car, to then pushing it hard around their tight and technical circuit - so much so that it even made me ill!
The Porsche GT2 RS has gained fame after setting a record lap at the Nurburgring Nordschleife of 6:47.2, and due to the limited production numbers they are immediately valued at dizzying heights. With 700hp from the 3.8l twin-turbo flat-6, huge levels of aero provided by the bodywork derived from the GT3 RS, and a package that is masterfully developed by the team at Porsche, it makes for an exceptional driving experience.
Combine the car with the specifics of Dunlop's Mireval test track, one with low speed corners over an undulating landscape, and their specific OEM tyres developed in partnership with Porsche, and you have quite a package. To get things underway we take a walkaround of the car to learn a little bit about it before it's time to hit the track.
First up are some sessions in the Guards Red car, fitted with Dunlop Sport Maxx Race 2 - a tyre that is homologated for road use with track intentions offering ultra performance. Next it's joining Timo Kluck in the GT Silver car fitted with a new prototype tyre that stretches the performance envelope even further as we see looking at the tyres themselves. Lastly it's my turn to take that very car for a few laps where I truly discover how the stick and the grip the car carries through corners as well as on acceleration and braking - before I have to pull in to be ill! That's a first for me and can only speak of quite how capable the GT2 RS really is in this combination.

The variable vein turbos on this car completely cut out any turbo lag there might have been. Instant torque at all rpms.

Tim. Serious question...why wouldn't you be able to fit screens similar to the GT2 to your GTr in order to protect the radiators? I understand there are differences b/w the two, but theoretically it's doing the same function. Just curious.

No need to be snarky. It was a question to provoke thought and a possible resolution to the issue with the GTr. Maybe you should look into having a custom built screen. I am sure a good fabricator can make it look seamless. Airflow would be the main obstacle.
