Sister, I had a similar situation. I tried to get my hair done by several black women on style seat. They cancelled, wanted to over charge me, couldn’t accommodate my schedule. So do you sister. It’s not their hair and they didn’t pay for it. Done.

Pay no mind to the ignorant people, regardless ethnicity of who straightened your hair, women of color also work in Walmart salons. Yes! Caramel! Or....Caramel bayalage...Your face can handle it, gorgeous girl! I would much rather visit the Walmart out in the boonies in my area of Ohio for my hair because they are AMAZING, whereas the different salons just to the west in a big city are like MEH. So I have been natural for years and I kept hearing people say you need to straighten your hair because they want to see it that way. Years later I did because I wanted to do something new and omg I must hate my curls people are way too concerned about hair that is growing on somebody else's head. It looked really good considering you were working out and being really active. The stylist did a really good job. Burgundy would look really pretty on you.

I remember this one lady charged my mom $85 for my press and curl for my high school homecoming in 2004. She said that she was charging for the length of my hair since my hair was long smh Anyway, I’m glad you made this video because a lot of naturalistas are afraid of putting any heat on they hair for fear of damage. I’m a white lady, my daughter is half black. She is 27 now. I went through so much trying to make her hair look good when she was younger. I would braid it, straighten it and tried using products for her natural curls. It was not easy. At that time most stylists didn’t know how to deal with her hair, black or white. I did the best I could. I’ve had many different hair styles my whole life. Your hair is your business. How you want to style your hair is also your business. Don’t let people bring you down with their comments. I thought you were very respectful and understanding. You can go to a salon and they will charge you a lot more for the same result. I saw the first video and as a former professional hairstylist for over 22 yrs and a certified Cosmetology Teacher, I have to say that he did a PHENOMENAL job on your beautiful tresses. He combed out your hair with so much care, he used a great blow drying tool including the brush choice. He was sure to not to over saturate with too many products and he didn't burn your hair. I was also impressed with his ability to still squeeze you in even though he was left by himself on that morning to hold down walk in clients and your booking. Smart Styles should definitely promote him into assistant management/Education.

First of all the rating of the grocery sacks to deep condition is giving me life! We don't have Kroger in my part of the community so I'm having to miss out. Second of all Ginger or red has been really popular. But I think Ginger or red highlights would be beautiful on you whether you were coily or straightened. I’m literally going to get a silk press today(so weird timing lol). My hair generally reverts within the hour LOL. The only reason I get them generally is to get a trim. But tomorrow I’ll be adding extensions in some kinky straight extensions. I’m very excited.

I’m here for your hair journey. Thank you for sharing your Walmart experience. Like a lot of people said, it’s about the stylist, not the place. He did a great job on your hair. My stylist did not. I got my first (and so far only) silk press about 4 years ago. I wrapped it that night and took a shower the next morning (doors open so less steam). I unwrapped my hair and it was a mess. Reverted back like I never had a silk press. Of course I called my stylist right away. The issue is that stylists are claiming they can do any type of hair style and don’t have the proper training for it. But thanks for your videos you have a positivity that shines.

I went to a stylist that charged me $85 for wash and style. I wouldn’t call it a silk press because after I showered (I wrapped my hair first) I had a Afro again. Did I mention that this was that same day!!!!! I didn’t ask the price up front because I thought that would be tacky as I hadn’t been to a stylist in YEARS. Boy did I learn my lesson!

I had a wonderful experience, I didn’t feel rushed, and it my hair honestly looks and feels better than it did when I went to the stand alone salon. She told me everything she was doing before she did it including the price - which was less than the stand alone. The person that provided my services was also Caucasian.

FYI, When you do silk presses make sure that you get some cold pressed apricot oil and cold press aragan oil. Do not buy any hair care branded products. Get it from the health food. Do a 50/50 blend of them and daily apply 1 tablespoon of it to your hair. It will help to keep it silky and straight and frizz free. It works awesome. I was able to maintain my hair straight for a month. MAKE sure the only ingredient is that one oil specifically. Mix them yourself. You get the best bang for your buck and the best value. It works excellent against reversion.

Have a talk with your mom and let her know how you are feeling. Assuming you are still living under her house 🏡 I wouldn’t suggest doing something on your own without at least telling her first. At the end of the day it is your hair and you must do whatever makes you feel the most confident in your crown.
