Richie Sambora's backing/secondary vocals are so vital to so many of Bon Jovi's songs. He's great on his own as well, but how their voices complement each other is the kind of thing that gives you goosebumps. And while I know that there are more technically difficult guitar solos, the crunchy, pure rock sound of Richie's solo does something to my blood, always has and always will.
@timlawrence2759

There's something about this guitar solo. I can't explain it, its just fire - gives you a rare feeling. There's a couple of others that do that for me too - Alice in Chains Jerry Cantrell's solo in "Man in a Box" comes to mind, Matthias Jabs in Scorpions "No One Like You" is another. Maybe not super technical, but perfect choice of melody and impact.

I was going to highlight the exact same things. To me it's Samboras best solo. So powerful. It's the pitch harmonics and the way it just ends in those power chords. Just awesome. And Samboras vocals make the song.

Jon Bon Jovi is the pinnacle of Rock bands of the 80’s and some of their music even influenced the Country scene and helped transform Country into what it is today.

Many underestimate their popularity during the 90s. Their first greatest hits album, Cross Road, is one of the best-selling albums of all time. Boosted by the power ballad "Always". Along w/ "Livin' on a Prayer" & "It's My Life", that's three music videos from three different decades w/ a billion views each.

The thing I love about Bon Jovi is that many songs by them are about the darker side of rockstar life. They show how hard it is to be away from fam in "Bed of Roses" and "Always", they show the difficulties of life in "Living on a Prayer", "Keep the Faith", and "Runaway", and just how life on the road is hard in this song. Plus, they also give back to their community in "Who Says You Can't Go Home". Yeah, they have other songs like "Bad Medicine", "You Give Love a Bad Name", and "Lay Your Hands on Me", but they just don't resonate with me as much as the more touching songs. The Bon Jovi catalogue is HUGE, and has some great pieces for all lovers of music

The Whitesnake tour around the time, this song was written, started in June 1987 and ended in August 1988. With only two breaks due to total exhaustion of the singer after a stomach virus and a back surgery some monthes later. Nearly every day in another hotel, the only days at home when you tour close to your hometown. I have tour itineraries from that time in my collection where you can read details like 500 miles in the tour bus after show, check in to the hotel at 10 am, check out 6 hours later (and hand written by the bass player 2 hours promotion in a music shop during these 6 hours), soundcheck, show and another 500 miles in the bus...

This song was so popular because it diverged from their normal rock sound and because of Richie Sambora’s prominent acoustic guitar and backup vocal. “Little Runaway” was their first hit which (rightfully) burst them on the scene. “You Give Love a Bad Name” was the anthemic song that had us all chanting along in school.

So much you could say about Bon Jovi, but I'm sure you'll get plenty of that from others. Just a couple things I would like to say. Another song, that for whatever reason, Jon Bon Jovi did solo for the soundtrack of the western movie "Young Guns 2", called "Blaze Of Glory", which has a very similar vibe. Great song that was a huge hit in like 1990, or whenever that was. I had the single on audio cassette, and listen to the hell out of it! It and this song are two of my very favorites of theirs. The other thing is that I don't think you've done any Bob Seger yet, but one of my very favorites of his is "Turn The Page", which is another song that's reflective of being on the road, and that whole thing, and it's been covered by Metallica, which maybe you've heard.

I left school and started an apprenticeship in 1986. The first year involved living in digs away from home during the week. I had a little cassette boom box on my bedside table in my room of that house, and Slippery When Wet and the first three Marillion albums were about the only tapes I owned back then. I listened to this song and album *A LOT* during that year!

Hi Aileen! This theme of dealing with the grind of a long tour has resulted in a lot of great songs, as the feelings are so raw and genuine to the band members themselves. A few others you might want to check out are: Faithfully, by Journey Wither, by Dream Theater Sweet Home Alabama, by Lynyrd Skynyrd And the one I most want you to hear and react to: Hell You Call a Dream, by The Warning.

One of the songs that made me pick up guitar. I was 14 and cowboys were damn cool. It is actually a really fun song to play on guitar. I still think Richie Sambora is a way underrated guitarist. Not among professionals, but yes, too few people see it, he is awesome.

I loved your commentary of this song. You can so relate to the Rockstar as they’re on the stage. And I was feeling it there at the end. Very emotional, more than I expected.

The song is an analogy between a old western cowboy and a rockstar. On a steel horse I ride (airplane/Bus), 6 string on my back etc

8:12 I've always liked Bon Jovi's softer side with LeAnn Rimes in the duet "Until We're Not Strangers Anymore" or his singles "Thank You" and "You want to make a Memory ". 😊😊😊

Jon Bon Jovi is a great singer and songwriter. The best demonstration of this is the album Blaze of Glory (unofficial soundtrack for Young Guns 2). If he has a cowboy alter ego, that album channels it.

I saw Bon Jovi open up for Ratt back in 1985 before Bon Jovi released the album with this song on it (Slippery When Wet) and became super famous. Bon Jovi didn't have any huge hits at that time so they had to work to win over the crowd. All I can say is they put on one hell of a show and definitely won over a bunch of new fans. They guys in Ratt on the other hand were WASTED haha. I'm not sure how many Budweisers Stephen Pearcy slammed during their show but despite that they still brought down the house. That was a great night!

My first big concert was this tour and this was the #1 song at the time. For the first encore it was Ritchie Sambora playing some tasty blues stuff on his double-necked Kramer, settling into D, then launching into Wanted. Amazing show. Cinderella opened. The second encore had Bob Rock come out and they jammed more songs. The show was in Vancouver, and Bob Rock produced the album there.

hey lil’ lady Aileen, never really cared for Bon Jovi much; but I’ve always liked this tunes guitar work… and then, on a couple things u mentioned: one - abt. riding a horse, I immediately thought abt. a tune used to play on radio, “Save A Horse, Ride a Cowboy!” next - abt. exhaustion after the job. anyone who’s toured, whether playing for ten, or ten thousand, knows the exhaustion of the long trail. it’s damn hard, when u gotta play for Atlanta on Friday. nite, then be in Tupelo on Sat. nite, especially when u’r the Lead, set-up engineer, and Bus driver all in one. then, u pack it in, head for Minneapolis for Sun. nite! it only takes a little while, moving like that, to wear the edge of the Bowie knife, down to a paring knife! I got much respect for bands, and that’s all hands included. great job on that reaction lil’ lady @Aileen

It's another one of those classic rock songs about being a famous rock star - it's not always amazing and it is like whole other job. Turn The Page by Bob Seger. Limelight by Rush. It's A Lone Way To The Top by AC/DC. Fame by David Bowie. And so on. Great tune, though. I'd say you should hit up Livin' On A Prayer next, but you surely have to already heard that somewhere somehow.

Hi Aileen 😊👍 Awesome awesome reaction 😊👍 Yes you hit the nail on the head on the theme of this song as all of us have it one time or another dealt with the public and we have to put on the pretty face, the jovial attitude and put so much of ourselves out there to please that at the end of the day when we get home we are completely exhausted so this is a very good adaptation of what it means to project yourself to other people 😊👍 and it can be draining but if it's something that you love to do then you take the emotion and use it as fuel to carry on 😊👍 In my instance, I have worked retail jobs and also teaching jobs and in both cases you give a lot of yourself during the day and so you treasure the times to get away and refuel so that you're ready for the next time 😊👍 I know you are incredibly busy with all the things that you do and I'm so glad you did take the time away and you seem very recharged and very enthusiastic and I'm glad 😊👍 I took the time before listing to your reaction to read all the comments so far and you have hit a gold mine with Bon Jovi... there are so many beautiful suggestions that I have nothing to add so I will just sit back and relax and enjoy your reactions to all the songs that they have recommended for you to listen to as always😊👍 Happy to have you on for the ride for the classic hits and music of the 60s 70s 80s and 90s 😊👍 Have a great day you and Arya 😊👍 and yes you are deserving and worthy😊👍
