I was a jail nurse for 6 weeks until I quit. Most of the younger incarcerated men have anti social personality and high risk taking which makes them exciting and I can see someone like her throwing it all away as she never felt she was rocked hard in life. I left because I realized it was very unsafe physically and most people are on meds that keep them subdued. A lot of manipulative mental cases.

I was a medical officer in a 300 bed men's county jail. The jailers and deputies would constantly accuse me of wanting to get with an inmate. I'm just not turned on by needy Men or Men in Orange. And let me say by the time I left it was very difficult for me to tell who the bad guys were and who the good guys were. There's not much difference between the guys behind the bars and the guys behind the desks.

I had a similar experience when I worked as a Prison Librarian back in the '90's. I was in my mid-30's and so were most of the inmates. I never could figure out why prison guards kept accusing me of flirting with inmates. I was like, why would I want to spend time with someone who murdered their grandmother for drug money? Or spent ten years molesting their daughter? At that time, many many inmates had AIDS - why would I want to hook up with someone with AIDS? I finally left after two years.

It wasn’t the sex. It was the intimacy. She thought she would get that love she was missing from her life. I honestly can get into her shoes. Men do not realize what it does to a woman to be rejected sexually. To have to shut yourself down because your partner has “issues” and you are just left to deal. See, she said she put others first, not herself. Women give out to their jobs, their Husbands, their Children. At times you can feel like, “Hey, where’s mine?” Yes you can “get out” of that unsatisfactory relationship but when you’ve worked like a dog to keep it, you just cannot go back to being poor again. Sorry. It’s the truth sometimes.

@@Kuulei265her first priority, preparing for the escape, was shopping at a sex store. Not saying she didn’t crave intimacy, but she was selfishly seeking sexual excitement at the expense of the surrounding society’s safety. I remember watching an interview by a convicted pedophile for my Criminology class and he was asked how he picked his victims. He said that he knew who to target because of how they'd react to the phrase "You have beautiful eyes." Girls who responded "Thank you," had a healthy sense of self (as well as positive male role models in her life who would protect her) and thus were bad targets. Girls who responded "I don't have pretty eyes" were ideal targets because they didn't have a healthy sense of self and a lack of positive male role models to serve as protectors. I think that's what happened here with Vicky White. She was so lonely and craved what any woman wants; to be desired and wanted. Don't get me wrong, she should've immediately reported Casey White. But at the same time? I can understand why.

I think her final actions of selling her house for far less than it was worth, believing that the couple could live in the woods, etc. Vicky fell for the scam of romance. I think she deliberatedly ended her life knowing that the romance /fantasy would end. At the very least, reality came roaring into reality when the cops showed up.

I followed the case and it doesn't take Netflix to figure out that the Sheriff's Deputy who literally threw her life and career away to sort out that deep rooted psychological trauma was the motivator for the breakout. Look, sometimes we have something happen and we don't handle it. The Deputy lost her husband and it seemed she went into a tailspin that she never got out of turning her life upside down. Maybe taking a moment to seek mental health assistance when she lost her loved one would have made a difference but we will never know. My gut tells me it would have been a world of difference if the Deputy Sheriff sought treatment for her loss and maybe she'd be here today.

In a way, I respect Vicki for doing something so ridiculously stupid. I think she'd never done anything reckless or stupid in her life, so she decided to go for one giant, reckless, stupid act, and she knew it would be the last thing she ever did. People who do dumb stuff for sex and romance are usually delusional about how things will ultimately work out, but Vicki had seemed to have no illusions that she'd even survive. She didn't go out shooting, she didn't try to hurt anyone, and she managed to pull off her plan without having to traumatize any innocent bystanders along the way. Yes, she threw her life away, but I think she'd have said that she didn’t value it anyway. And maybe 11 days of feeling really alive are worth more than decades of old age, depression, and loneliness. In any case, it was her life to spend how she wanted, and while what she did was illegal, given that she didn't hurt anyone else, I can't condemn her beyond suggesting that she ought to have tried to find a better way to live long before things got so bad that her only way out was romance with a convict and suicide.

I was thinking of something similar with consideration to the older men and women out there that ruin their lives (often a spouse or other family members suffer as well) when they get scammed by online "boyfriends/girlfriends". They'll send their life savings and sell their house to send even more and occasionally will even face legal trouble (money laundering, etc), all while people in their lives and common sense tell them that the person they think is a retired doctor stuck on an oil rig or a 25 yr old model that for some reason likes 55 yr old men they've never met is just a scammer....there is no model coming to marry them, there is no guy on an oil rig just a plane ticket away. Their loneliness and desperation lead to levels of delusion that seem impossible. In this case, while I truly wish she hadn't have reached such a point in her life, at least she went down throwing herself into something that was real. Whatever true feelings were or were not involved, there was a person she could see, feel, and be with. Anyone who has ever had a broken heart or loved someone they couldn't have can probably understand her desperation to grab whatever happiness she could. I am 100% against what she did, but I can understand it.

I saw the Netflix documentary. Vicky and her nonsense went on for two years! There were inmates and staff who knew or suspected what was going on. It seems that Vicky made herself invaluable. Everything that went on at the jail went through her. She wasn’t a tyrant boss, she was just a contentious employee. And her coworkers were happy to let her do it. They made excuses for behavior that was out of the ordinary. It’s an extreme example of what can happen when someone ingratiates themselves into every aspect of a work environment and nobody says no

I actually worked with a nurse who had some of the same character traits as Vicky. She had an alcoholic husband who couldn’t work and a lazy daughter who wouldn’t work. She worked a ton of overtime to support these two drones. Of course she nursing home was happy to fill shifts and she soon began to feel invaluable. Unfortunately she brought all her co dependent issues to work with her. She needed to be needed. She made decisions that weren’t hers to make and gave orders to other staff that weren’t hers so give. And she would falsely accuse other staff of abusing patients The boss felt sorry for her because she had a pathetic life. The boss wouldn’t exactly side with her but she would smooth things over. Soon this nurse thought the nursing home needed her more than she needed them. Inevitably when the boss finally put her in her place it was brutal and they were never friends again. Both the boss and this nurse are dead now unfortunately. I’m not saying this nurse would go as far as Vicky. I certainly hope not but I saw some character traits that made supervising the nursing home challenging

I mean she was married previously and left her husband after a couple of years so she clearly wasn't putting anyone ahead of herself there. And she wanted to be a stripper but had always been "unlucky in love". I mean; great marriage material right there. Any man would be lucky to have her! She could have had a comfortable, respectable retirement. She could have dated, made more friends, and traveled. But she chose to let a violent monster back out on the streets for what? A few days of "excitement?" Even if they didn't get caught, did she really believe Casey would be content living alone with an older woman, isolated in some trailer off the grid for the rest of their lives? Probably within a week he would have made sure the fairly tale ended because that's what men like him do...and that's if he didn't kill her once her money ran out or the first time she wanted him to do the dishes.
