In my opinion, it's kind of hard to be "unique" in a burnout competition, basically, everyone is doing the same thing. So I think this 8 into 1 is genius for a burnout car because even though it's a tried and true engine, it has a very unique sound.

and since it's a burnout car not a race car they can go just up and out the hood for extra style points, can't name another hood exit 8-1 header it's definitely unique and sounds sick

As an old aircraft mechanic the sound of this engine and exhaust at idle is very similar to the sound of a radial engine. Then when you rev it the exhaust note is similar to the old school formula one engines of the 60’s. Fantastic build !

Is the firing order of a radial uneven or does it run sequentially ? If it’s uneven that would make sense as the 8 to 1 is an uneven sequence ?

The exhaust is the Rubik's Cube of pipe fabrication. An OG mechanic friend of mine who is no longer with us, had a custom exhaust trick. He would take a wax tire marker or crayon and draw a line all the way down exhaust pipe to the exit. He would then run a heat cycle and then cut the pipe off where the crayon mark quit melting. He felt that was the optimum length for sound and bald eagles.

I'm amazed at the ingenuity and use of technology every time I watch, I'm 62 years old and you can't imagine what it's like see this! My 72 Cutlass came with a 350 2bbl carb,185 hp,back In the day you would put on a thrush muffler and flip the air cleaner lid over....instant race car. Lol

Engine technology is amazing these days. My Civic puts out 180 crank with a 1.5L engine which is around 90 cubic inches. Of course the torque from the 1.5L civic is no where near a 5.7L big block but it is amazing how far things come in your lifetime.

Guys in the sprint boats have started using these 8in1out setups because it gives them more torque which is important to them because of the advantage in jet boats upon leaving a corner to get back into the power band and the impeller biting into the water instantly. They also have that "sound" which is different than side by side exhaust.

Kevin, Congratulations on completing the build. Day 6 of a 5 day sounds about right. Burnouts are a performance and mostly a smoke show and tires popping. Your entrance should also be part of the show. Luminous paint to get immediate crowd reaction that would also glow through the smoke. I know more about putting on a performance than cars. Whether that paint exists is not my specialty. Best wishes at Bristol.

If you want the sound to be even more insane, neck the collector into a 6"x2" rectangular pipe exiting the same place instead of the 4" round collector extension - like a NASCAR style side exit over the front fender there lol.
