Agree, do what works for you. Last year I lost 50 pounds changing my diet to low carb/higher fat keto. Maintained for 6 months but was unable to loose those last 10 pounds. Followed advice, raised my protein and lowered fat intake. Now I am back to loosing 1/2 lb. to 1 pond a week. Lowering my fat intake to encourage my body to use stored fat instead made sense and works for me. At 62, I feel better and healthier than I did in my 30's. Thank you Diet Doctor's for all of your great advice and help!

Wow. Not long ago they were saying "Keep eating that bacon!" "Add fat to everything!" I have to give them credit for changing their approach to one that seems more sensible and easier to understand. Adding fat to everything only slightly worked for me, then stopped working. But I do know people it does work for. So I am going to trust them and try this new approach.

It's nice when they acknowledge differences in individuals. My husband lost a ton of weight on higher fat, moderate protein. I have success with moderate fat and high protein. we both obviously do very low carb. So try it, you may find success this way. High fat moderate protein was great for my energy and such, but my body didn't want to give up the last 10-12 lbs, not until I switched 45% fat, 40% protein, and 15% carbs, in two meals a day. Good luck!

This advice seems more on the Atkins end of the spectrum. I lost over 60 pounds and maintain a very high level of fitness by taking the opposite approach and eating the fattiest meats. I find fat far more satiating than protein, and that allows me to maintain a low meal frequency (typically OMAD with fasting 1-2 days per week; so 5-6 meals/week). This allows me get the benefits of fasting without feeling hungry and without ever placing unnatural boundaries on my food consumption (i.e., no "portion control", no "calorie counting"). I ALWAYS eat until I'm full and I'm ALWAYS in shape while doing this. I truly believe "Real Fat is your Friend".

Atkins only works well the first time you do it. The second time hardly at all. By the third time you attempt it your body has gotten wise to what's going on and will convert your excess protein into glucose and you won't lose much weight. I personally experienced this.You and I are traveling the same Keto/I.F. road to wellness! 70lbs gone in six months. Diabetes is in remission. Off all meds. Just turned 62, feel like I'm 50! 90lbs to go, shooting for feeling like I'm in my late 30s by 63! Enjoy the journey!

@@oldtymer9106 keep up the good work! Good things happen when one stops poisoning their body with chronic hyperglycemia, chronic hyperinsulinemia, and vegetable seed oil (fake fat) consumption. I think fat (especially saturated animal fat) has gotten a bad rap that is entirely undeserved. Fat is both calorically and nutrient dense and it is satisfying. People have been mislead to believe that eating fat makes one get fat, but I don't think that's true. Eating fat can satisfy one's nutritional and caloric needs, and because it is so satisfying it can help people avoid eating too much carbohydrates, which actually DO make one fat. Eating a lot of fat has gotten me healthier and more leanly muscular at age 56 than I've EVER been since my 20s.

Well, i'm quite confused here about the lean and fattier meats. So protein triggers both insulin and glucagon, now when you eat just protein you have a significant, but not large spike in insulin but what i don't know here is how much is used to actually store the protein in the muscle so later it will get utilized to actually build more muscle and how much is used to take the carbs in the bloodstream (wich will be there because of the glucagon wich makes you utilize glycogen [and fat]) transform them into fats, then store them in the fat cells. So while protein is the best for satiety, the insulin spike might be a factor. While fats barely trigger any insulin but they're a bit easier to overconsume so both fats and proteins got their own pros and cons for weight loss and honestly i think it comes down to what you prefer ketosis or non-ketosis. In Ketosis you'll have better mental clarity but i think it will also trigger your sympathetic nervous system slightly so you'll also feel slightly less relaxed.

You may find this helpful: At Diet Doctor, we don’t recommend counting calories. First of all, when eating whole foods that don’t come in a labeled box, it’s very difficult to know exactly how many calories you’re eating, let alone know precisely what your body will do with those calories. We believe it’s far more important to choose foods that reduce hunger, help keep you satisfied, and make it easier to achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Focus on minimally-processed foods that contain high-quality protein, natural fats, and nutrient-dense fibrous carbs, especially above-ground vegetables. www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/calories

The same amount of fat, (usually cheese, outside of a meal)) is FAR more satiating than equal calories of protein. I can't relate to his narrative that protein is satiating. Poultry is not usually MY selected option, and when I do eat it, I choose the fattiest cuts of dark meat with the skin. Overeating is not a problem for me as my 75/24 fat/protein ratio is fulfilling and nutritious. Fatty fish and eggs are great! Promoting a lower-fat diet is not a great idea, as it hasn't really worked out for most people.. WHAT I'm eating influences satiety, not how MUCH I'm eating. I can stop when I'm full, even if my plate isn't empty. Something I practice daily. Peace ❤

They don't promote actual low fat. They mean closer to 45 or 55 % fat. For me, that did the trick. Being in menopause, the 70% fat just had me hanging out with 10 extra pounds still to go- after 3 years of keto. Switching to 45% fat, but keeping my carbs under 30 grams a day finally got rid of the fat layer on my belly. So everyone is a bit different. But I agree that a true low-fat diet is complete crap and the reason for our obesity epidemic.

@@raquel5401 I agree, everyone is different, Gender, age, metabolic disease, diabetes2, obesity, and body types all play a role. Everyone has to listen to their bodies and adjust what the "experts" are saying to a very general audience. I cannot handle more than 10 carbs a day or my blood glucose spikes, my energy sags, and I get food cravings. I cannot really handle veggies, as they make me sick to my stomach and feeling woozy. My fiber-less gut functions great. My monthly labs (kidney transplant recipient) and my "pristine" cholesterol levels reveal me to be in optimum health. Can you eat yogurt on a keto diet?
@user-uq1iw5iy2m
@user-uq1iw5iy2m 7 ай бұрын
A good plain yogurt is fine, in the process of culturing the yogurt the lactose is converted into lactic acid (which gives the yogurt the sour flavour) leaving just the protein and fat. But check the label to make sure the yogurt has been allowed to culture long enough to convert all the lactose, and of course also avoid sweetened yogurts with added sugar (you can add your sweetener of choice and some vanilla or whatever to your servings). Also of note, you will notice on the label a small amount of trans fats (like 0.2g per serving). Don't be alarmed by this, these are natural fats that occur in dairy and are very beneficial, and nothing like the trans fats from hydrogenated vegetable oil (which are about the worst thing there is). And be nice to yourself, go for a high fat yogurt. The stuff that is around 10-11% milk fat is really great :)

I haven't seen Fage before, I guess it hasn't made it into the stores I shop at. Having a quick look online, it looks like it's a 0% fat yogurt - which is ok if that's what you want, as long as it doesn't have any carbs on the nutrition label. I typically buy the large container of Olympic Krema yogurt which is 10% milk fat as a nice fairly inexpensive yogurt, or sometimes the high fat Liberte yogurt (although Liberte has been bought out so who knows it might change). Imho high fat yogurt is so much better. :) @@tamaramorris6911

This movement is new in the big picture just the last 10 years primarily and 20 years at the most sure the information has been around for over 100 years but we lost our way for over 80 years in the name of progress in science with medication and also consumerism with cereals and soda sales. I have watched them yearly fine tune it and now the move has been more protein than previously promoted. These medical doctors appear to be conflicted constantly with old science. Dr. Andreas usually is the most consistent and point on and doesn't get confused with the poor science we have been taught for years. The problem with diet doctor is they can be wishy washy and don't teach the message of reversing diabetes metabolic disease and heart disease. They teach weight loss and I get it that's what people get excited about. I think that it will be constantly getting tweaked and improved as more research in this area is complete. It's amazing to see all the dogmatic "pro-fat" comments. I've been listening to everything closely for the past few months and it seems that DD has never advocated High Fat. It's always "Low carb, with a priority given to maximizing fat and protein", which is exactly what most other low carb doctors have been saying for a long time. Most in the Low Carb space have come to accept that most people do best with .8 - 1.0 gram of protein per pound of ideal (or lean) body weight. Excess protein is not magically turned into carbs. Gluconeogenesis occurs as needed, it is not driven by protein consumption. As we age, we need more protein, not less, to prevent bone and muscle loss. I pray God will save us from people that know/understand just enough to hurt themselves and others. ;) Edit: my original comment is intended to be complimentary to Diet Doctor for following where the research leads, being willing to adapt with the science. I do not perceive a "pushing" of anything. Nor have I heard them say everyone needs to cut fat & increase protein. What I'm hearing is "some people may need to adjust". I have never heard them say anything that is deserving of the derogatory remarks that I have read lately.

I have been on this diet for over ten years. The whole concept with this diet is that the main fuel should be fat, the protein intake should be moderate, and the carbohydrate intake should be low. I know what I'm talking about. I have Eenfeldt's book on my shelf, I have litterature by Gary Taubes, I have followed Dr. Eric Berg for several years. This thing you are pushing now is NEW. It didn't exist earlier. This is the first time I hear about switching fat for protein. Maybe it's a new fad. I don't know. But I don't recognize it. This is completely new to me.

At Diet Doctor, our guidance has been evolving over the past couple of years and we now offer more information on who may benefit from a higher protein diet, and how to implement this. As Dr Eenfeldt says in the video, if what you're doing is working well for you, there's no need to change anything! If you'd like to read some of the benefits of higher protein, here's a good guide. As a note though, Diet Doctor isn't recommending a low fat diet - even our high protein meal plans are still in the range of 60% calories from fat. www.dietdoctor.com/high-protein/higher-protein-benefits

@@dietdoctor As I said, this is completely new and alien to me. You have never pushed this stuff before. He says two things in this video clip I'm reacting to. 1. Wanna lose weight? Avoid fat and eat more protein. 2. Start counting calories again. He has never said this stuff before. I haven't seen him make any appearances on this channel for a very long time, and the first thing he says when he comes back is avoid fat and count calories? That's very sketchy to me. I will be keeping an eye on this, because I get a very bad feeling about this. If other previous LCHF doctors start pushing the same thing, something is up.

@@dietdoctor Wasn't the general plan for using keto to lose weight. 1) start with high fat, low carb, mod protein. 2)Once fat adapted, reduce fat (so body fat will be utilized instead). 3) Once you achieve weight goal, increase fat to maintain?

I'm surprised at this. Fat is satiety, eating lean meats results in higher insulin and less satiety. Fat doesn't cause an insulin response, carbs and to a lesser extent protein do. Could you explain why you're suggesting lower fat in light of this?

I'm a bit stunned that this video is high on advice and bereft of data to back his claims. I expected the pitch to come with at least minimal proof.

@@dietdoctor The link just contains more data that was outlined in the video but does not support the premise. What data that shows lean meats, high-protein, is superior to higher fat content for health and weight loss?

There are no essential carbs, ditch them. Most eating practices globally average at most 25% protein. People who try hard may get protein to 50% of calories, briefly, episodically, but few do. So "high protein" is above 25% up to 50%, of calories, STATISTICALLY. The rest of calories is fat. DD eating protocol REMAINS high fat, and it is HIGHER protein. Fat and protein are BOTH satiating. The less fat you have in your bloodstream (through ingestion), the more your body can and does pull body fat to fuel activities of living. Protein is not an ideal energy source. Gluconeogenesis functions as needed, to some degree, but does not, and I don't believe can ever, provide the majority of energy. In my experience many can lose much or all the body fat they desire with traditional LCHF. Many can go BEYOND that, and lean out as much as they desire (more or less), by increasing protein percentage, and reducing consumed fat to some degree.

Eggs?? Is this some industry funded video on how to achieve the fastest athresceloriss progression and highest rish of heart attack? "Egg and cholesterol consumption and mortality from cardiovascular and different causes in the United States: A population-based cohort study" (2021) "In this study, intakes of eggs and cholesterol were associated with higher all-cause, CVD, and cancer mortality. The increased mortality associated with egg consumption was largely influenced by cholesterol intake. Our findings suggest limiting cholesterol intake and replacing whole eggs with egg whites/substitutes or other alternative protein sources for facilitating cardiovascular health and long-term survival." Why are you giving advice that is dangerous to health according to most recent science?
