Caleb, being in the market for a new 65" TV I spent a lot of time pre-Black Friday/Cyber Monday researching various brands and models. Having come across Digital Trends videos (along with some other reviewers) I was intrigued by your comments about the Panasonic Z95A made in your best TV's of 2024 video. One of the features that is important to me is the built-in sound bar. I watched your "unboxing" video of this model, and I was happy to hear your comments about the sound system. I was waiting for your full review of this TV but was concerned that Amazon's "Limited Deal" might pass me by. So, I pulled the trigger. The TV has arrived however, I have not yet been able to set it up due to some remodeling. Based on your new review I am chomping at the bit to get it set up and fingers crossed that I will be as happy with it as you are!

I felt exactly the same way when I auditioned the Panasonic OLED that I have - I viewed it against a Sony A95K. Yes the Sony was better in some respects and the Panasonic was better in others. However there was just something about the way Panasonic processes their picture that kept me coming back…….can’t put it into words, but I just preferred the picture. Oh, and I’m happy that I got the last Panasonic OLED with their custom home-screen software instead of Fire TV.

For those who dont know, Panasonic makes oled TVs that are actually used in hollywood color grading suites that grades movies like Top Gun: Maverick.(Some of them, especially netflix also uses panels like LG C1/C2 with custom Calman calibration too) Like the model GZ 2000, they are used by professional colorists in Hollywood studios like company 3, as a reference client monitor. So no wonder why they have such granualr level color tweaking capabilities and already out of the box color accuracy.

Great review.... I have tied myself in knots over the last 2 weeks deciding on a new 65" OLED. I have been a Panasonic advocate for the last 10 years and was set on the Z95A until reading and watching so many reviews praising the LG G4. Yesterday I took the plunge and ordered the G4 but after watching this latest review im questioning if I've made the wrong decision. The LG was £400 cheaper than the Panasonic which was one of the main factors I chose the LG.

I've used lots of your advice, you seem knowledgeable and trustworthy somehow. Anyway, thank you.
@joes3800Ай бұрын
Wow, thanks Caleb! Panasonic coming back is awesome: last one I owned was one of the last plasma models. Now here's my ask from all TV manufacturers: some cost is devoted to improving built-in sound, like the Z95A. That's understandably great for a lot of people, i.e. those that don't have soundbars or HTs. But wouldn't it be great for those of us who already have soundbars and HTs if there was an option -- maybe just for the flagship model, or for certain models -- that has bare-bones speaker(s),or perhaps no speakers, at a reduced price? Such model options would be cheaper, lighter, and less wasteful since we already have external soeakers and we'll never use the TV speakers. (I've mentioned this before, and the feedback I've received usually centers on it not being cost-effective for manufacturers to have to build and offer yet another model. But I contend that you don't know until you try; manufacturers might be surprised at how popular "no-sound" or "strictly-monitor" models might be and how well they might sell, especially if it turns out that such models could be offered for $100s or perhaps even a $1000 less than their counterpart model with the exact same PQ and video features... and maybe also a thinner or otherwise smaller profile and/or at a lighter weight.)
@stepheng8779Ай бұрын
Some may find this interesting, I did, as to why certain TVs sell more than others when reviews would suggest the results should be different. 4 of us went into a large shop this week & whilst there I said to the others ignore brand, price, just pick your favourite TV. I like to think I know what I'm looking for, the others just know what they like, all 4 of us chose the Samsung S90. Now I know it's the way the store had the TVs set up, the A95L looked particularly awful but it shows why they shift a load of that particular model over others on view.

Caleb Hisense has eARC problems too. The eARC won't just turn to Auto every single time time and stay on Auto. If you turn off CEC you screwed yourself big time. You can't just turn it back on. You have to do a restart. I get notifications invite TV that says CEC must be turned on and when it is the eARC will say that it isn't because you turned it off. They have huge software issue recognizing eARC. I do make sure that HDMI cable is good and it works and checking the Port connection because a very slight bump could cause the cable to disconnect from eARC. Since Hisense uses the same software on every TV I can't be the only one that has a different brand sound bar and looses the HDMI handshake connection. When the sound bar is turned off for most of the day. It tells me the subwoofer not found when both devices get tuned on. Then for me to manually make that reconnection. Which is like doing a reboot start.

But there’s more: Panasonic makes 3 4K blu-ray players that offer full support for the DTS codecs, so anyone wanting to enjoy a totally integrated Panasonic solution is out of luck. An external soundbar with HDMI inputs will be needed. At this price point that’s not acceptable. Panasonic is doing a Samsung here. Pathetic.

Who needs DTS/Atmos thru tv speakers? Silliness, get proper speakers!
@clemdye2996Ай бұрын
@ I agree, but Panasonic has included a sound system that many will view as an alternative to a sound bar or external a/v system. As such, it’s not unreasonable to expect to perform like one, especially if a sub is added, which mandates DTS codec support to my mind. I stand by my original comments. Panasonic is treating its (would be) customers with contempt. Inexcusable.

This TV in Portugal is 3300 while g4 is 1900.. Is the sound worth that mutch?

You can't go wrong with Panasonic

Yeah, there’s something special about the Z95A which is it finished last in the HDTV shootout by a wide margin. And if there was only a way to get better audio from a TV rather than from its speakers. Hmm.

If I spend that much on a tv, I’m never leaving the house

You wont want to in all honesty! 😊

you seem to completely forget the whole amazon firestick thing when choosing this over the G4. That is something you'd potentially have to interact with every time you use the TV, unless you purchase a separate box entirely, completely bypassing all the Smart TV features... That alone is enough to rank it far below the Sony and LG.

My wife has 55" bush with Dolby vision and Dolby Atmos built in it's for the bedroom even I have turned to either my left or right hand side has if there is sound there it's very good but not as good as my Samsung 5.1.4 sound bar system but the TV for bedroom does it's job

I wish Amazon TV had a feature to “dumb” it down like the Google TV platform. Great review Caleb! Is it really worth the ≈ $700 savings over the Sony? Whoever can afford these TVs, $700 is not a deal breaker

What's the best Gaming TV going into 2025? LG G5?
@mikemccormick612827 күн бұрын
My first flat panel display was a Panasonic plasma in 2011 and it was the most amazing TV that I had ever seen. Unfortunately, it burned out (Stopped Working) by 2015 and plasma no longer existed. So I ended up buying a Samsung LCD and was instantly disappointed, especially with the off-axis viewing. However, the Samsung TV is still going after all of these years. I'm hesitant to buy a new TV because I'm one of the very few people who actually enjoy 3D movies and obviously 3D TVs no longer exist. I actually feel a little frustrated that 3D came out as early as it did. I think if it came out a few years later, it would have been integrated into the 4K spec which would have helped make it a better experience. But maybe not because 4K movies don't sell very well. There is actually a large number of people that just buy standard SD DVD discs. So maybe 3D TVs would have become obsolete no matter what. I guess after this TV stops working, my only opportunity to watch 3D movies would be through the Apple Vision Pro? Oh well.

Maybe TV manufacturers should consider allowing users to download/purchase separately their own preferred TV OS software
@GinandTronicsАй бұрын
Isn't that like adding a stick. And getting it to auto power on too that
@msd5808Ай бұрын
@@GinandTronics yes, except it seems like you shouldn't have to buy extra hardware that sticks into a USB port
@frommatorav1Ай бұрын
@@msd5808 The streaming sticks are like $20-$140 from ONN to AppleTV, which is minor when buying a TV over $1000. You have the option to choose whatever one you want and don't have to rely on the TV manufacturer to implement the software correctly.

if you have ever used fire tv OS connection support with 1, 2 or 2 + 1 sub echo speakers as a wireless home theater sound system you are missing one of the big differentiators between it and google tv, tizen web os and apple tv. i have a new mini-led with google tv and what is considered one of the best built in sound systems and a pair of wireless echo speakers driven by firetv OS is much better sound solution.
