Just a clarification - this was the first time he showed up on the Chinese show, “The Singer” and the episode that skyrocketed his fame. They have never heard of him prior to this performance, so that means they had no idea what he was capable of. Just knowing that, you can just imagine how the audience, the judges, and even the contestants must’ve been feeling 😂

This was in 2017 when he was 22. He’s even better now! Particularly his low notes. It was a Chinese singing competition for established Chinese singer. Dimash was the only foreign competitor and a late wildcard entry. He was the first competitor in the first of many weeks of competition. He started as an unknown but literally became an overnight star. He woke up the next morning to find body guards posted outside his room! You’ve so many performances to watch and you’ll be astounded every time. If you only do one a week it might take you forever! 😂❤

Hi Vivien - fantastic post..... not sure if you've seen Dimash's DLD performance interview yet..... 5 months ago D was in Germany to be interviewed for a TV special identifying Virtuoso Musicians redefining the field.... after, he made an appearance at DLD (think Ted Talk for Music & Tech) - prob less than 100 people in the audience & most had No idea who Dimash was He has matured so much - physically his huge as he has grown into his man bosy & his speaking voice is SO deep - he is 100% an Alpha male.... His English was fantastic - he did not even need his translator But this appearance was Remarkable b/c he agreed to appear to promote Kazakh music & instruments.... so before the interview he does a Live performance of SOS then a solo instrumental on the Dombra (looks like a skinny neck Banjo) & then does a live performance of Stranger He does all 3 performances cold right off the street when he walked in & IMO it was the best performance of both songs we've ever seen on KZbin..... He was simply Remarkable - Mind Blowing & the crowd was in SHOCK Similar to last month when Dimash flew to Las Vegas to sing the Kazakh national anthem before the Triple G vs Canelo fight & Twitter EXPLODED b/c most Americans & Mexicans had never heard of Dimash & they lost their minds when he sang his country's anthem! The audience at DLD is small but there simply in shock..... & as usual Dimash is comfortably conversing w/ the audience but in English & he does the entire interview in English.... SOS is Dimash masterpiece!! SOS is an existentialist song, about ups and downs in life, depression and death, when you feel you don’t belong here. The Singer , it was a Chinese show for highly respected singers to compete, Dimash was the only non Chinese singer invited because the producer saw him perform for the Chinese and Kazakh presidents and was very impressed. He is from Kazakhstan and was the youngest ever competitor in 2017 at only 22 years old. This was his first performance on the show and the audience went wild for him. When the show was broadcast on tv he had to have bodyguards for the first time in his life as he had become a superstar overnight in China. Dimash is now a world class artist, turned 28 on the 24th of May but touring the world to sell out arenas with his solo concerts, he also performs in concerts with the famous Ukrainian/Russian composer Igor Krutoy, is constantly collecting awards, attends many prestigious red carpet events, film festivals and even models for lots of high end fashion houses. He is university trained in Classical opera vocals to degree level, also holds a degree in contemporary pop music and jazz with a major in vocals, and now has finished his master degree in music composition. He started his doctorate in Musicology.He has been having singing lessons from the age of 5 when his teacher noticed he had perfect pitch . He was offered a place at the Astana Opera in Kazakhstan but respectfully turned it down to pursue his own more contemporary musical career. He is a multi instrumentalist, more than 8 instruments and also sings in 15 different languages and has a range of over 6 octaves from a low bass A2 to a high soprano, plus a whistle register with his highest note so far being a 5 second D8 with vibrato. He is widely recognized as the best vocalist in the world. He speaks fluent Kazakh and Russian, is studying English and Mandarin and has conversational skills in both but not quite fluent yet. He is kind, humble, generous and modest, very elegant and very tall, Dimash is 6ft 3, 1/4.

Dimash turned out to be an overnight sensation in China after he sang this song. In this competition the other competitors were nice to Dimash. The music coaches and teachers were saying all kinds of good things about Dimash, really appreciated his talents and hard work. After the competition, he managed to have three concerts in China. That showed how popular he was.

This was the 1st performance of the 1st show of Singer & he just blew everyone away! He was invited onto the show as a wild card competing against known, established Chinese singers & it was thought he would only last a couple of weeks but he lasted to the end.

You should really watch “Stranger” next. In SOS he covered about 3 octaves, but in Stranger it’s 5.5. It’s also from 2021, so you can see his growth. The performances you’ve watched so far are 5 & 6 years old. He’s only gotten better since then.

This version is and always will be my absolute favorite song by Dimash. I am sure you will get to a lot of Dimashs' songs, but I would love to see your traction to "Ikanaide". He sings it in Japanese and it is absolutely beautiful. I loved watching this video with you and your reactions. You look like a little kid getting everything he wanted for Xmas. The other contestants looked at him the way they did because they did not know anything about Dimash...not even what he looked like. He was invited to compete in this competition that always had been only for professional and established Chinese singers only. He was the youngest and the first foreigner. The sponsors invited him as a dark horse and then after hearing him sing, said "this horse is too dark." it was his first performance and the first to perform. The next day he had over 6 million followers on Weibo, which is the Chinese equivalent of Instagram and bodyguards.

Yes it is a singing competition in China, he was 22 years old when he did this. Though he should have won it, they had to have a Chinese win. Overnight off the back of this it shot him to the global star he is now.

He is from Kazakhstan but there was singing in Hunan TV show "I am singer" in China when he was 22 years old. He uses techniques from opera, modern lyric, ethnic, glam, hard rock and pop environments. Registers don´t apply to him. Not only male voice, no female voice, no alien voice: Dimash´s voice. i think that was his breakout performance and the genuine reactions of the audience mirror what is felt on the first listen. I think this is by far his best performance based on the genuine reactions even tho there are french errors. When you watch that performance , you feel like you were there also. Great reaction bro. Loved how you broke it down into the crowd experience and our shared reaction. It reminds me of a typical american movie which are done by formula. This is the singing equivalent of Pulp Fiction. Your ears just don't know what will come next!. I loved this performance so much. It's off the richter Scale! KaBOOM! mIND IS BLOWN! It's so amazing. Dimash is one of the best technical male singers I have seen ever. Dimash is a unicorn in the world of singing for a male.

I had fun watching your reaction, finally I found someone from my homeland! 🤩 Awesome! I discovered Dimash during Covid lock down over a year ago. I started to think I'm the only fan of his here. Every song from him is jaw dropping, epic performance. I would recommend Stranger next, he sings it in English. It was composed by Igor Krutoy a Russian well-known composer, who came out of retirement to write songs for Dimash. The two of them formed an amazing creative duo. He sings in 14 different languages up to date. He speaks fluently in his native Kazakh and Russian. His learning and improving his English, also speaks a bit of Mandarin (Chinese). This was his first perfprmens in the contest "Singer" from China in 2017! The girl that held the mic is Tia and she became friends with Dimash during this. He have done some contests in his life but the one I think got the worlds intension is "The Singer" (Allso called "I am a singer" or "Singer") from China in 2017. The Singer is a program for established Chinese singers to face off against each other invites only in a competition where votes were cast by an audience of 500. Dimash Qudaibergen was a last-minute inclusion (a 'dark horse'). But his performance of 'SOS D'un Terrien En Detresse' electrified the audience, his fellow competitors and the viewers who numbered in the billions (this program was one of the most-watched in China and outside). They also got him the nickname "Imported little brother" the day after the show. They also had to get bodyguard for Dimash do to the famous over night both in China and also the world. Dimash wasn’t really prepared for that. He had come to China at 22 years young man by him self and didn’t know the language. They hade contracted him for 2 shows because they didn’t think he cold go further than that. He didn’t think they would like him. So he was nervous this performers that he had also to start the show with. But they hade to change that do to his famous over night. Actually... higher than the piano. 😆 No - this Audience { made up, not of general public, but music industry professionals ) @ 2017 Chinese 'Singer' competition didn't know what to expect. First time hearing Dimash. The evening this went to air the Chinese 'twitter' went ballistic with over 300 million hits. It was quite clear from that point on throughout all the rest of the performances who the winner was - but you'll hear about THAT Controversy later! Yes - the poor girl waiting to go on next... And did you catch that back up singer - who's mouth - and brain - just froze in shock! 🤣 { Which tends to suggest... that in rehearsal Dimash must have held back a little from giving his ALL!?! Keeping a few surprises up his sleeve for the main event? } So... yes, 5 years ago already, and he's improved quite a bit - believe it or not! Holding back to only 1 Dimash per Week?
