I just bought a Turbo R 4 last weekend. My friend has a Pro R. The Pro R is just slightly quicker, but my Turbo R 4 is more than fast enough for anything I'll be doing. So long to the old days of a VW 1600 in a dune buggies and think I was serious off reading. Polaris has built some incredible machines.

idk what elevation you guys were at but that would give the Turbo R and advantage for sure. also a lot of people in the comments dont understand, what makes the Pro R motor so gnarly is in real world driving the no lag coming out of corners is what makes the Pro R so much faster. strait line is totally irrelevant. then you factor in the extra length of the Pro R over whoops or chop and its even better and faster.

Before picking the Pro consider the altitude where you’ll be running it. If you’re routinely 4000’ and above I figure the Turbo’s consistent 181HP will keep up with, and be lighter than, the naturally aspirated Pro. And if crossing mountains in CO/ID/MT is your thing the Turbo will likely flat-out slay the Pro on a trail like Big Bear at 12000’.

Interesting! Ditch the windshield, wide flares, light bar, non stock wheels and tires and find two machines with dynamix. Are either machines still in the break in period? My pro r got quite a bit faster after 300 miles. I wish you could measure wheel slip. Mine lights the tires if you punch it at 50. Most pro r drag comparisons I’ve seen have had to be in 4wd because it is just spinning the entire race where the turbo has traction.

As appealing as the Pro R is, Polaris is going to need to consider making a “trail friendly” version under 65” and 2000lbs in order to get it in under state size restrictions that are being imposed in certain states. In my home state (Maine) we have 6000 miles of trails making us the largest network east of the Rockies and makes us a dirt destination. Trouble is, us and other states are making it impossible to use these rigs.

If your claiming that the pro r has extra 250lbs then that is the difference. So overall weight is 2437 and 2250 for the 4 seater. The 4 seater is lighter so that makes up for the hp difference. Every 100lbs is 1 tenth of a second and 1 tenth is about 1 car length so if you removed your accessories you should be roughly 2 lengths ahead of the 4 seater.

What is the altitude you did the test? In airplanes we call it turbo normalization . meaning you get full power at altitude. The NA Pro R could be down power at altitude that the Turbo is not. As a general rule, a naturally aspirated combustion engine will lose 3% of its power for every 1,000 ft of elevation gain. at about 6,000 they make the same power.

As much as I'd LOOOOVE a pro/Pro R/X3 with a 5/6 spd, be it manual or DCT the packaging and weight requirements kind of kick that to the wayside. a CVT is lighter, smaller, and cheaper to manufacture. Yamaha has/had the tooling and tech to make it happen, primarily due to their motorcycles which the motor from the YXZ directly borrow from. While Polaris and Bombardier are manufacturing powerhouses, neither one has access to what Yamaha does in the small engine dept.
@Bigbossman126242 жыл бұрын
@@shawndejong6699 The weight difference is negligible, we are talking a 30-15lbs difference. The added power is 5-15 percent on top, that’s what you will feel. Belts were and always will be a bandaid for a lack of a real transmission.
@shawndejong66992 жыл бұрын
@@Bigbossman12624 I’m not so sure about a 15-30lb difference. Have you seen most DCT transmissions? They’re not small, or light. Then there’s the issue of price. A $1500 oem part vs a $7500 oem part….
@Bigbossman126242 жыл бұрын
@@shawndejong6699 the DCT that Honda uses on almost everything is in fact small and light. Yes price is factor, a civic is going to cost less then a corvette. This is already a 40,000 dollar machine. Honda/Yamaha is able to do everything I’m listing, Polaris doesn’t have an excuse. Any smart person would take a 15 percent power gain for 30lbs. Most of us Chuck heavy bumpers on anyways and eat too much food.
@shawndejong66992 жыл бұрын
@@Bigbossman12624 it’s not going to be a 30lb difference. It’ll likely be the better part of 80-100lbs. That said weight isn’t so much a factor as price. Here in Canada a Talon costs as much, and depending on location more than a 200hp X3…. Food for thought.
