nothing to do with airing dirty laundry but thought I would share one of my pettiest things I've done. When I was married to my second wife, her mother hated me. I don't mean a slight dislike. I mean HATE!! My mother in law and father in law were going to Jamaica or Dominican for a week and needed someone to come over twice a day to take care of their pet parrot. My wife and I went over and spent some time with the bird so it wasn't lonely so I thought I would teach it to say something that would piss off the mother in law so I taught him to say, " Donn is the greatest ever. " It only took me 3 days to get him to start saying it. If you don't know, a parrot can live up to 80 years. This breed is known to make it 60 plus years and they never stop repeating words or phrases they learned. So every now and then I know her parrot will randomly say, " Donn is the greatest ever. " It almost makes my tiny coal black icy heart warm up for a second.

Early in our relationship, my late husband (then boyfriend) told me that I could be a little scary when I'm mad. I never yelled, I never hit, I didn't break things, but, apparently, I have a "look". He told me that he knew that if someone crossed me, I would be all smiles and sunshine on the outside while planning their funeral. We were together for 32 yrs, married for 30. I guess he made his peace with me being "scary"!

In college, my boyfriend showed up to my room..with his dirty laundry. "What the fuck is that?" said young me. "My laundry" says he;"I thought you'd do it for me". I laughed and laughed. Then I took him to the dorm laundry room and showed him how do do his own fucking laundry. My hubby and I have a fair arrangement. I do most of the cooking, but he'll cover when I'm working late or have a school assignment. We split the chores (him: vacuum, mow lawn, etc; me: clean bathroom, dust, etc). We always do each other's laundry. It's a partnership. We cover each other. If the clean bug bites one of us, it doesn't mean we have to take the other one with us. It also helps that neither of us are clean freaks by any means. I think that also helps: that you both have the same "tolerance level" for clean.

There was a storytime I heard of a guy who called his girlfriend ugly since her body wasn't the same when they were first together since she lost her 10 year old son so she started letting herself go and the guy wasn't happy and cheated on her with some girl who had the same body she use to have and she found out and was very depressed about it. Many years ago, I had a party at my house and my ex showed up with a date. I sat in my pantry with the door closed and cried. This house was so old the bathroom had to be added on, and this deep pantry had a square opening in the roof at the back of it where I could look up and see the stars. It was my favorite crying spot! My friend Lou found me, my friend whose boyfriend recently left her, and she sat next to me and we both cried and hugged each other and told each other we were beautiful and deserved better. Once we cried it out, and fixed our makeup, we went back to the party and had a great time. Lou was definitely not a "pick me" girl! What a great friend.

When my boyfriend and I bought a house together, one of the things we got was a washer and dryer. Suddenly he expected me to be the laundry maid. Before then, our apartment did not have a washer and dryer so we would go to the laundromat. after many arguments, we settled on doing our own laundry and sharing the linens. A year or so later we got married. We inscribed our wedding bands. On mine, he inscribed, “bound by love.” On his, I inscribed “do your own laundry.”

Fun fact, the notion of airing dirty laundry came from a time when laundry was all done outside, and laid out to dry. Laundresses would lay out all of the linens, and you could see who went #1, #2, or had their monthly reds on the sheets, letting the whole neighborhood and often then some know. I had a pick me friend like that. Always aired out my trauma so that she could get brownie points. The way she talked about me, it sounded like she was my lifeline when it was the opposite. She made everything worse both school and home because she somehow convinced my dad, who is homophobic, that I'm lesbian and was going to marry her one day. I was dating my current boyfriend at the time. Then at school, she would tell people my secrets because she took my art book which was how I coped, and would tell people what's inside. I got bullied so hard for it, but people praised her for being my friend. I got her out of my life when the pandemic started and ignored all her requests after graduation.

When I was in my early thirties I had a pick me friend. I lived in a podunk village, not even a town. It was either her or the cows. Some days, I chose her! She thought she was God's gift to everyone and anyone who for to lay eyes on her. She was also a lot dumber than she thought she was, so ppl would make passive aggressive comments right back to her but she didn't get it! She thought THEY were too stupid to realize she was dissing them but in reality, they all got it and gave it right back. She thought "Bless your heart" REALLY meant Bless your heart, if someone said it to her bc she couldn't fathom a world where ppl didn't outwardly worship her! When she left for school, I lost track of how many locals called her my butter face. They'd apparently been calling her that quite often but were afraid to tell me... Until it was clear that I was on to her ways too. She's a life coach today 😂😂😂😂 She STILL thinks everyone wants to be JUST LIKE HER!!!

It's fun to play with stupid stuck up people! Worked with one ditz who definitely thought she was all that. Her rich daddy bought her a fancy new car and she couldn't shut up about it. When Winter was coming on, I asked her if she had the Summer air taken out of her tires and replaced with Winter air. I told a couple of coworkers about it first, so they played along. One guy told her, "Oh yeah! The Summer air is hotter, so it expands. If you don't change it out for Winter air, all your tires will go flat!" Yep, she took her car to the tire place down the street and asked for that service. They happily complied, and filled her tires with nitrogen which is quite expensive and unnecessary unless one drives a race car. I wonder if she ever found out she'd been had! Bless her heart!

I sought out weird places to cry all the time. I spent so much time crying in my closet, but I looked for other places too. On a trip with my best friend's family I would get homesick (first time away from family for weeks) and cry in the closet of our condo's room. One of our biggest fights ever was when she stole my spot because she thought I made it look comfy! 🤯😠😭 We became closer than ever after that trip. I was in an abusive relationship for a very long time and it took me a lot to leave.
