@@DaSpineLessFish 1. This is a joke 2. I’m his patron. I know bomber version never slowed 262 development 3. Massive number of 262 were originally given to bomber units and used very poorly, to the point that pilots from JG54, the most decorated German bomber squadron, gave up bombing entirely and flew it as a fighter. Their inexperience with fighter got a lot of them killed when they would have been much more effective if they stuck to their Fw190 (edit: they might’ve been using Me410 prior, not fw190). 4. Point is, lots of engines, airframes, fuel, talented bomber pilots were lost because 262 was initially pressed into bomber role.

I remember seeing plans for a RC droppable 'Bomb' in a RC mag in the 80's. It had a Plunger arrangement inside that pushed an 'explosion' of flour out the back of the bomb. the plunger was depressed by the nosecone hitting the ground this compressed the flour/air mix inside the body of the bomb, popped the snug fitting tail section off in a cloud of flour so you always knew where it landed. It was really simple nosecone attached to a stick with a close fitting disc attached to the other end inside the body of the bomb. as long at you pulled the nosecone forward to fill the 'air/flour' chamber enough.

If you haven’t already you should do a versus battle with the B-17 “Flying Fortress”. My great grandmother worked on building them for the army during WW2. I also had a family member (great uncle I’m assuming) that was in the B17 as a tail gunner. The plane was shot heavily and he had to bail while it was spinning.

Similar story, My great grandfather was a B-17 bombardier and his crew and him were shot down somewhere over Europe and they were listed as KIA for a couple months when they were actually just MIA and he survived the war but sadly died of a heart attack when he was in his thirties (this was also late war so maybe over Germany but I really don’t know much about it) and my father just showed me my great grandfathers wings from the army air force 😁.

The fleet tend to follow the middle land channel from the west to Berlin - just a straight line. The Erprobungskommando Nowotny was here from 1944 onwards and he died in Epe having climbed from Achmer. That airstrip is in the west end of the village and you can easily find it cause it begins where the street from Achmer going southwest crosses the middleland canal. There the air field began and you can see the road going around the whole airstrip.
