The two magisters with the kid at the boat are actually trying to help him escape. If you save Delorus upstairs, he will give you the password that will let you persuade them that you're there to help.

fun fact about Withermore. if you did his quest and you are in the vault of Braccus Rex later on in the game and you do not have the source to open the door, he will show up and open the door for you, as a thank you for saving him. I discovered this by accident. you otherwise have to use your source to open the door, which is what all normal people did, but I click on it with the wrong character by accident and he showed up. so that was a fun discovery for me.

If you kill the geist you can give the ring to his daughter. She will then go toward the beach. When she arrives to the beach, you can then kill the magister, retrieve the ring and also take the key

You get most EXP if you give gheist a yarrow flower, he gives you his ring, then give magister yarrow his ring, she runs to the beach and will give you experience and gear… …and then kill them both to get more gear and exp!

I just got the game the other day when it went on sale on PS4, so far it disappears when combat starts and returns after. And I've only seen the poor cat die to that particular archer, have seen that it becomes a summon if it escapes the fort with you. Though tbh I was expecting it to be a character that I can lv and gear after finding a friendly mage npc, not just a pet lol. I think it has the ability to teleport to iirc, so there's that

There is one more using teleportation. Even with the gloves. Because you can give them to an party member and then take them back after you got teleported, and teleport them. (Take the whole team with you) At the place where Gawin runs of too, you can make a team member teleport you over, and then Teleport them there yourself. Then all of you sneak to the dock. But not where the enemies are, no. At the right from wehere you come you can see the Bridge that you can lower. Walk at the end of that place and teleport down to a little beach. Excape succes, you can even take your whole team with you.

to anyone who doesnt know you can follow gwain across the ledge just teleport your party across and switch the gloves over and teleport yourself but be warned hrs fighting a shit ton of magisters if your high enough you can beat him

That's how I did it last night, just started the game, teleport the 5 blind guys one at a time to a gangbang. Once I was done teleport the sorcerer to take their place since their bodies couldn't handle all the action. Continously teleport the claymore wielder every 4 turns away into oil. Win with my 2 remaining characters

You can make that fight easier buy teleporting back to the ledge with the stump then everyone will go to the Ledge and you just use hit and run Tactics because hey can't hit u if you are on the far right . Probably a sucky explanation I wish I could post a picture of what I mean

The hound master fight in the prison is pretty tough for new players, you should mention it.

If you save one of the magisters after that fight they give you a password for the boat with the 2 magisters and the kid

that hound master fight is not needed though , he gives you a key but you can just lockpick that door ,it's there for the lore

It's brutal. I'm on my first playthrough and found it to be impossible the first time I tried. Come back to it when you're level 5, have better gear and a decent team composition and it's much more doable. The last time, I brought Ifan, who I made a Ranger, and I feel like he's kind of OP in all fights.

The part where you can find withermoores soul jar, also contains part of the tyrants armour. Make sure your wits are high enough first. Worth going in.

Part of why the Act 3 felt so unfinished when it was released was because the first 2 felt so great. All of the ways to get out of Fort Joy raised expectation for Act 2, which was drastically different by dropping the party into a huge, wide open world with many areas and puzzles. Then Act 3 came with a rather small area, not many quest nor many ways to get them done. It was fun, but no where near the level of the previous 2. I do think following the other 2 acts was extremely tough. Act 1 tight design, with every elements contributing to a single goal was followed up with expansion in every sense: bigger map, more goal, more characters. How are you suppose to follow up on that?

I disagree. There are at least 4 different ways to get to the Council that I can think of: back entrance, finding all 7 altars, convincing Alexander and bringing Alexanders head to the Sallow man. Technically, you can kill Alexander and have his ghost tell you the combination or eat Alexanders head yourself, but I'd say those are the same as going to the Sallow man. Act 2 does the same thing. You can get an extra source point from: Saheila, the Advocate, Jahan, Mordus, Hannag, Reiker and if I'm not mistaken, the altars scattered around the map. If you somehow fail all those options, you can return to Malady and she will take care of you

@@danielhuisman1996 That's not a lot of contexts actually. Act 2 opened up the world for the player with huge areas that they can venture and run into things. Act 3 instead yanked the game back into the Act 1 format after having unleashed Act 2. Act 2 map had so many things to explore, things to do, little to large side quests, hidden areas, small houses, it's an entire world out to adventure through and behind every fog is something fun and exciting. Act 3 and even Act 4 was none of that. The spirit of fun and exploring were largely absent. That would have been fine if the Act 3 was the climax. Had the game ended in Act 3, it might have felt appropriate as the climax to the story, but it went onto Act 4 which also don't feel as finished back during the initial release. Act 3 was sort of the "prelude" to the disappointing Act 4, might be its biggest problem. Sure, Act 3 story was compelling and some of the characters story climaxed during Act 3, which added to the anti-climax nature of Act 4 even more. If I can redesign the levels, I would probably have put Act 4 as a mid-area to act 2, probably after passing the death-fog, then continue into a large area around Arx, before finally embarking to Act 3.

I took the boat and then transitioned from PC to switch without saving the progress, and now the boat is no longer there. Thank you for making the video and letting me get out eventually ( took me forever on the dock waiting for the boat like an idiot)

You can also go to the hatch behind the fort joy plaza statue. You can find it by interacting with the statue. The hatch takes you to the prison.

i actually managed to escaped the fort by helping Gawin in his quest...i teleported him to the other side using the tp gloves and before that i teleported all my NPC companions to the other side so got all of them there and i used a tp scroll on another char to tp me there and then teleported gawin there..he mocked me lol and died cus there was alot of magisters there..i continued further and manged to sneak my way out from that way( which was difficult btw ) gawin was trying to leave through. and yeah i tried all of these ways and but i wanted to find all the ways and went with this one by sneaking though the docks

i also used this method, however instead of using a tp scroll on myself i gave the gloves to a companion so he could use it to teleport me to the other side. i also tried to teleport the black cat but it dies if you try this 😂 so i loaded an old save, did it again, fought myself back into fort joy via the sewer and killed everybody! then took my black cat to safety through the main gates.

You can also teleport your characters directly to the docks and sneak out that way and you en up right in front of windego

The key that the Magister gives you is to the door right across the ladder. It's a sleeping area for them with Potentially lots of good loot

I used the gloves of teleportation to teleport up to the top of one of the walls and fought my way out to the swamp. I didn't find the ladder you could drop until later. I also never fought the sadistic magistrate.. I let Fane talk to him

The docks weren't explored that well, but you can teleport across after gawin if you toss the gloves back and forth between your characters. Not an easy route and not one I would recommend.

See the Roleplayer in me thinks it´s great that you can just sneak out. The murderhobo however really enjoys the idea of slaughtering all of the magisters, burning their corpses and leaving Fort Joy a completely lawless anarchist community run by corpses and the few children on the island.

I've been taking my time, doing and discovering everything I can. I've found all of the exits, although the boat is now gone since I didn't take it when I discovered it. What I'm trying to figure out is: Is there a best way to escape? I mean, is there one option that has advantages or impacts the story in a good way? As far as I can figure, there's nothing left for me to do in the fort. If there is an actual best way to escape, my assumption is that it would be the "find your own way out" option, although I don't currently remember which one that is.

The best way is usually to do everything for the xp to be honest, they struggled with balancing xp gains in this one.

I always end up killing the crocs to get the gloves then teleport up to the ledge with the ladder and kick it down, then sneak out. Its pretty easy, one slightly tough fight and thats it

@@boredaura1064 adding necro to assassin or ranger is very op even on tactician. Especially with Lone Wolf. Tactical Retreat for mobility plus haste, stack warfare for physical damage and Ranged for height advantages and you'll be wiping the floor with everyone

Edit: sorry thought you were talking about the end of the first Act at first 🤦. Just find a wayshrine outside the fort and you can have them all teleport to the wayshrine.* It should actually just teleport all of them onto it anyway. The first act is kind of a prologue, they all make it off the island regardless who is with you.

I’m new to the divinity games, I love the wasteland series, pillars, and the old baldurs gate, but this game is so much more. I never gave games like this a chance, because I was so used to ARPG’s, but they don’t compare to what you can do in this game. Im hooked, I even bought it on the switch to play on break at work or when I go on vacation.

I don't know if I am going to keep playing. For being the starter area, these enemies are needlessly brutal. I am at level 3 and every fight destroys me. I want to escape (mostly to not have to worry about the cat) but then I'll of course want to come back later (AT LEAST 2 levels later) to finish all the quests and fights that are here in the dungeon. If I try to fight anyone now, I get wasted. The fact that these enemies can't just be appropriately leveled just boggles my mind, and I think it is a failure of game design. It's the damn starter area. Isn't this a big game?? Isn't there plenty of time later to encounter powerful enemies?

Put it on story mode, find where everything is, there are six people to recruit with a party size of 4. This game really rewards knowledge. I know it's annoying to play on the lowest difficulty but start there and work your way up. I also have some build videos that might help you out.

@@MortismalGaming Thanks for the head's up, and your vids have been quite helpful. I kept the difficulty on Normal and just tried to finish all the side quests I could. I escaped Ft Joy on the boat and that got me to Level 4. NOW the game feels more balanced. I won several fights that destroyed me earlier, and that got me more XP and loot. Now I am looking forward to playing. I still don't understand why the devs ruined the early-game. It would have been much more enjoyable, for everyone I think, to have the Ft Joy area be a true beginner area and then let the difficulty ramp up as the player learns. For those that want a hard game, just set the difficulty to HARD. To make the very-early game so difficult for everyone, even on the "normal" difficulty level, is poor game design.

@@Jason_P Glad to hear it helped, and it can definitely be off balance at times, but it's definitely doable and once you're familiar with it it's not so bad. I can walk through 90% of the game on tactitian/honour mode when I had trouble finishing story mode the first playthrough. If all else fails just remember that summoning is hilariously overpowered.

Near the harbor, there's a ledge you can jump off of (with skills like Tactical Retreat, Cloak and Dagger, etc) that takes you near Wendigo. But also... High Judge Ordinater? Slingtail?!?!!?
