I'm glad this game is getting good reception! This game, Zelda BotW, Persona 5, and Nier Automata really set my standards of gaming for me. This game is probably one of the most immersive RPG's I played. I felt I almost had complete control and choice at every turn. The amount I could experiment left me in awe. This game proves games don't have to have top of the line graphics to feel immersive and good. This is what an RPG is, imo.

I actually prefer the journal style of questing. Reminds me of Morrowind. I hate how the Elder Scrolls games have gotten more and more dumbed down with every release, makes me feel like they are treating me like some child who can't think for himself. Quest markers suck! It's encourages lack of exploration and finishing quests don't feel like an accomplishment at all. Skyrim was pretty much based around following quest markers, so even turning them off doesn't help, as they don't tell you directions, it just leaves you stranded without the slightest clue of where you're going or how to get there. So this game is looking pretty good to me!

Coming from an Xcom/Xcom 2 background, I can really appreciate the strategy, placement, technicalities and action points in the combat. It really brings out your creative and tactical juices trying to beat some overwhelming odds. I really am not into Fantasy or medieval themed RPGs, preferring Sci-Fi, but DOS is an extraordinary exception, as I really feel like I am playing the role of a Red Royal Dragon or Demon possessed Sorceress...LOL. The co-op and multi op LAN/Split screen/P2P options and features are a STRONG aspect of the game that I thought had long since been forgotten, but am glad, is there in today's world of "live services" and Online only multiplayer.

@Demokaze
@Demokaze 6 жыл бұрын
That's not the problem I have with direction in DOS2, and I don't feel lost, either. And trust me, I am a huge Dark Souls fan, I don't want arrows and maps in my game. It's just that there are some quests that need to be done in a very specific order if you want to get the happy ending. For example, there is a red ball you can get in the dungeons of Fort Joy, and you can use this ball to pacify some dogs inside the torture chambers. One of them is Emmie, and you can help Emmie reunite with her friend Buddy - a dog near a cave outside at the beach. However, you have to talk with Buddy first, but Buddy will not tell you what troubles him if you have the cat around so, the only way to do this is to escape Fort Joy (so that the cat turns into a summon) and then go back for Emmie. BUT, for whatever reason, when you go back, the pacified dogs will be aggressive towards you and you have no other choice but to kill Emmie. This dickery occurs with almost every quest. And there is no way to know because the journal doesn't tell you anything you haven't done already. It may not be a huge deal for some, but if you want to roleplay and be who you want to be you need to know what the hell you're doing.

Near perfect game, but I gotta say, the inventory management could really do with some improvement. Having items and skills automatically updating and moving about on your action bar is a real pain and switching between action bars doesn't feel very practical. You can very easily get distracted and waste a lot of time trying to organise everything only to see it get messed up again...

GenXRanter except that blowing some quests is unavoidable when they are broken. There is a better continuation/conclution for some quests that exists outside of Fort Joy, but when you leave the fort they are marked as failed. Every mother's nightmare is one of them.

That criticism of the journal sounds to me like a judgement based on an assumption of how quests markers should operate. I understand that it can be frustrating that the markers don’t lead directly to where u need to go but I think that leads to a more interesting albeit demanding experience

I would be a little bit more harsh on this game after finishing it in a 170 hour gameplay. First, after almost an year we still have unfinished quests that just wont close for some people for no apparent reason, even following guides, for example the one when the red prince takes the eggs, all added chapter after chapter i must have 10-12 quests unfinished. Second, the lack of REAL variety in skills, just check the wiki and see the number, after your gameplay you are going to notice that certain skills are essential for harder difficulties while a great number is borderline useless, magical spells have huge cooldowns which means you are barely able to cast the same spell twice in a combat (which limits a pure pyro/geo/aero style, you gonna have to mix and even then have idle turns where you just dont have anything meaninfull to do), the armor system makes mixed parties very hard to play and physical damage is very superior to magical damage in numbers and resistance, summoning and necromancy need a serious rework for variety even with how necromancy is op (because of 3 spells). Third, from level 15 onwards the scalling of equips becomes ridiculous, the difference in damage and protection between lvl 19 equips and lvl 20 is enormous, initiative becomes very important and enemies become sponges or armor with some reaching 10-12k armor in each type. Fourth, the last part of the game is just rushed, anti-climatic and let you down compared to the other acts, Arx is a city with very little content, quests and badly designed, you have 3 important quests for lvl 20, guess what happens? You arrive there at 19 too weak to tackle any of those and after finishing 2 you are too strong for the third, you did reach the time of the game where you could relax a bit with gear since it takes a lot to level up but the game ruins it giving too much xp in any fight to make up for the lack of encounter is this last act, for real, ONE enemy gives more xp than the reward for completing any quest, you are powerfull, have your build the way that you wanted but have nothing to do because Arx sucks. Fifth, in the last fight you either cheese it or becomes stuck reloading for hours AND then dicide to cheese it lol there is no middle ground, you gonna have to use the op spells and try one-shoting groups of people otherwise people in your party is dying left and right with huge AOES the enemy spreads across the battlefield, which is sad imo even if i did play in a higher difficult. Crafting is underwhelming, resources are very scarce and not renewable and you are not going to craft plenty of useful stuff like GOOD potions (because it requires too many resources and the game cant provide much since mobs and nodes dont respawn) and armor(crafting for armor is almost non existant). This game is a masterpiece, yes, but will let you down after some time playing and you understanding how some things could have been done differently so easily.

This and PIllars of Eternity 2 are both true 10/10 games (I give Pillars a 10 for being everything Baldur's Gate 2 was and improving on enough of it, while staying true to the content)....where Divinity lacks that overwhelming-yet-holding-up nostalgia factor, it makes up for in combat and environment interaction, and some modifiability.

GOTY and One of the greatest rpgs of all time, simply a wonderfully crafted masterpiece. Already have 130+ hours on the game, it is a blast in solo and coop. Not to mention this is the best representation of turn based combat of all time. The writing is vastly improved over Original Sin 1 to which a nice surprise. There is a reason I buy anything Larian does, they started off with Divine Divinity which was an underrated classic, then some decent work on Divinity 2.. but boy did they find there gold mine when they started work on the Original Sin series! Part 1 did so many things right but somehow Larian managed to improve every aspect of the first game, turned a great game with the first one into a masterpiece for part 2! Best rpg since Witcher 3 or New Vegas!

Incredible RPG, TRUE RPG. Not just random action adventure game pretending them-self as RPG which is what the 99% of the gaming industry nowadays is about. Choices in every turn, choices in every conversation, that's what RPG suppose is about; not predefined sets of only few major branches. True, the characters are amazing with personalities. If anything, I just wish there will be interaction between party members update in the future; Sebille should be not the bestie with Ifan for example (because... spoiler, duh haha), they might be pissing each other off during your journey and you trying to cool them down or else face the consequences...

This year has seen a lot number of prime GOTY candidates. First there was Nier: Automata with its unique story telling and awesome action then there was Horizon: Zero Dawn with its awesome graphics and good story, suddenly Zelda: BOTW to show everyone how to make a great open world adventure game came to join, Then another masterpiece in Persona 5 who didnt want to be left out and showed how that the classic turn based RPG are not dead and now this game Divinity: Original Sin 2 came out of nowhere to be the torch bearer of epic RPG Games genre. That doesnt ignore the fact that there are other GOTY worthy games out there like RE7, Nioh, Injustice 2 and those that are upcoming like Super Mario Odyssey, Shadow of War, etc. Best year we had in gaming in this generation.!

Part of it is nostalgia, I'll say. And the isometric view makes it look tactical, considering the turn-based gameplay, it works well enough. Having reading them I don't think the game is a 10/10 as they said. Also read some people talking about issues with story and not knowing where to go and getting lost. I still want to try this game. Hopefully coop. But it might be too big to coop.. I really want to try that though.
