After installing the Voilimart 1000W Rear Wheel DIY e-bike Kit from eBay on my old trek mountain bike, i review the overall kit and the process of installing all of the components. I also show the performance of the kit, with overall uphill speed exceeding expectations and top speed hitting almost 35 mph.

I got the 1500w kit with internal controller and I have over 4000miles on it without ANY problem whatsoever!!! I highly recommend this kit. I can go 39.9mph and I get a range of about 40-60 miles out of a charge with my 54v battery..

All water proof connectors, plug and play EVERYTHING, I built the whole thing in about an hour and a half and it's one of the best vehicles Ive ever owned.. Doesn't make a sound and is way faster then the average 50cc scooters that "try" to race me.. and a few go- karts as well

These kits ('Voilamart' are simply drop shippers who put their own name on the kit, many sellers sell exactly the same gear under different names) are quite simple to install, helps if you have a bit of experience repairing bikes but no engineering background is needed, and for most of the kit, the only tools you need are a set of allen keys, screwdrivers, pliers, possibly mole grips/wrench if the back wheel nut is rusted on, and a small socket for the protective junction box (you can pick these up at poundland or supermarkets). There are only 2 problems that occur during installation - the first is the pedal assist sensor, that requires you to take the crank (the bit of metal that connects the pedal to the bike) off, which often requires a large automotive-grade socket set, which is extremely expensive professional-grade gear. The second is the connection between the battery and the kit. As you are buying the battery separate from the kit, and there are many different types of battery kit (heilong, silverfish, generic heatshrinked 18650s), it usually happens that the kit and battery have completely different connectors, which means you have to snip them off and put the connectors you want on - meaning either soldering or crimping.

A crank puller can be had for less than $20.
@Debbiebabe69
@Debbiebabe69 2 жыл бұрын
@@Jo060 yes the crank puller itself is cheap, but there is often a nut that you need to take off to get to the crank, and because it is encased in the crank housing you cannot just use pliers.

The pedel assist sensor does not tell the controller how fast you are pedeling and then in turn, determine how much power to send to the motor. Its there only to sense movement. The PAS setting you have it set at determines how much power is sent to the motor while the PAS is sensing movement.

PAS mode is delay, and sometime output full speed at level 2, 3 and such. 3. Both throttle and PAS works regardless what you sat in the setting 0,1 or 2

I would kind of like a more integrated or separate solution for the brakes. Your video brought this to my attention that I would need to figure this out. The instructions that come with this kit are bloody awful. I bought a front wheel drive to go on my home built trike. It was a real experience to build character. I am a retired engineer mechanic, and this was a challenge because I did not expect the torque produced. The instructions do not tell you how to mount the special washers, and I had the wheel tear out of the fork twice, tearing up the cables before I figured it out. I then changed to a heavy duty fork and ground the fork to fit the axel and washers, then I made a retaining torque arm to prevent the motor from going a different direction than the rest of the bike. You have to be careful. It produces a lot of power, but is kind of poopy on steep hills. Still and all, this is a great thing to try, and cheaper than a new electric, although you can now buy a new electric bike for USD1750.
@icebiker3
@icebiker3 3 жыл бұрын
@will kinh The plain washer goes on first, then the frame/fork, then the washer with the tab on the outside. The tab is critical, and is supposed to be, I guess, a substitute for a torque arm. The tab needs to be set into the axle slot, up against the lawyer tabs so it is trapped in there. The frame might have to be filed out to fit everything; just be careful to not make the slot too wide. I would also suggest a torque arm if you can get one.

Most batteries will be listed as 1000w and then just need to make sure it’s 48v

@@TechRoundUp ok. so just make sure the voltage matches up? I was thinking of getting a 52v battery.

@@TechRoundUp most lie ... 5 china cells is 500w max not 1000w you got scammed... surpise it doesnt cut out anytime u throttle are you 100lb and never full throttle ? or never full throttle when battery under 50% ?: lol ... ALL YOU NEED DO IS READ CONTINUOUS OUTPUT the battery said 20amp for 30 second max.... meaning 26 amp waaay too much especially long use.... the needed is 30 amp continuous output for 1000w
@Debbiebabe69
@Debbiebabe69 3 жыл бұрын
@@travis938 'China cells' usually just means 2500mah rather than 3500mah cells - most heilong sellers wont scam you, just to get the same continuous output and amphourage needs more cells, so they are heavier. Its not like general 18650 bulk sellers and thier '9000 mah' ultrafire cells that actually read 500mah or less....

@@Debbiebabe69 ya LOTS more for same output... so you need for 1000w like something that dont even fit in a triangle bag

Illegal to ride on the public highway. Not illegal to own. Same as hoverboards/escooters/eskateboards/segways. But with these, they usually have a jumper you can cross to make them 'UK road legal' (obviously you take the jumper out once the cops are out of sight ;) )

after buying kit like this i can say its garbage , motor is too heavy , you can get better performance buying geared 750w kit ,torque is same and top speed is same and weight is almost half of 1000w . I dont want to talk about battery consumption which this motor eats like insane . Dont reccoment anybody buying direct drive bikes when there are plenty of small geared yet powerfull motors . i have samsung 48v 40.ah battery and 1000w without pedal assist will eat it so fast. 1000w with wheel weighs about 7 kg while 750w weights about 4.1kg . Some brands have even lighter 750w like 3.6kg with rim.

It costs $0.07 to charge battery where I live, so I don't worry too much about battery consumption. I also live 2.5 miles from work.

I want to put the front wheel version on my Schwinn Frontier mountain bike, I think it's a 26" tire and a pretty standard frame. Any reason it may not work? Thanks for any info if you got it

Sometimes you have to file a millimetre out the dropouts but that's easy, don't forget to use steel bottomed forks not magnesium or alloy.
