The Handyman what insulation would you recommend for thermal and sound control?
@TheHandyman17 жыл бұрын
I don't know much about sound insulation. I always use the maximum amount of insulation that the cavity allows for.
@evajulixagarcia40116 жыл бұрын
you👎
@Shmalentine6 жыл бұрын
The Obama Jesus swag Thermal insulation doesn't do much for sound isolation. It works great for sound treatment (i.e. to kill reflections in the room and make everything sound clearer) but the only thing that isolates sound is mass. Meaning 3-5 layers of drywall is the best way to kill sound. There are products (like Green Glue, hanging clips, etc.) that may or may not allow for fewer layers of drywall, as well as some mounting techniques (like floating walls, ceiling, and floor - leave 1/4" gap between all surfaces - nothing touches - and use special flexible caulk) but the main principal remains - the heavier the walls and the ceiling the less sound will get through.

Excellent video. Thank you. I'm building a 6x10 bump-out to my kitchen and this video helped a lot. Your excellent attention to detail waterproofing the roof looked hard, as well as sheetrocking the closet. Time-consuming. Curious why a small 3x5 deck, since there's space, why not 6x8 or so? Great video!

nonarac88 I know that the answer to your question and the way G7130 answered it doesn’t seem to get you any closer to an answer than when you asked it. But he is in telling the truth. When you asked the question 4 months ago I hope you bought the materials then. If you haven’t, well hopefully your not in a hurry. Commodities are through the roof compared to three months ago. Dimensional lumber and OSB has doubled and tripled the last couple of months. A 2x4 -8’ stud was in the low 3$ range then now it’s almost not it’s closer to 8$ 2x6-12’ was 6$ now is 14$, 1/2” 4x8’ OSB was 9$ it’s now 24$. These prices are dictated by the natural disasters from Hurricanes and forest fires. But the show must go on. While these are the times where commodities traders look forward to because they may have been holding rail car loads of lumber in a reload load center , waiting til no one can fill an order and he’ll make all the money. But from being on both sides of the yard, these spikes in prices don’t last forever, but the big box stores have to get to flip out of all there stock they bought generally listening to a mill direct broker who bought the farm. If you have time. I suggest take your time and buy when the Market is back to notmsl👏😋

I was thinking of just doing a lean to shed against the back, but that is a bad idea. This is send choice. It is not a house per se but a spare building for a large spa. Converted to a shop. I need more room now and limited to how far behind the shop I can go. There is a Fig Tree (bush) i don’t want to disturb that is about 11’ out near one end. I am surprised you didn’t use 4x4 pressure treated lumber for the corners of floor joist. The current shop is concrete but the addition will be pier and beam like yours. I plan on using metal siding and roofing than insulation. Or better yet. I can hire you! 😉

Hi Russ, That is a very valid concern. I am always upfront with my customers about permitting. About 60% of my work is for investors and they never want to pull permits. They know the risks and are willing to take it. If I was doing this to my own house I would pull a permit. Thanks for watching. I have a lot of good projects coming up in the next few months.

This was more like watch me build a room rather than how to. I know nothing about construction. So I do have some questions. How do you level the floor and prepare the foundation? Why did you use batch insulation for the floor ( that's what it looked like to me) rather than spray? Or can you even use the drywall? Type insulation on the floor RMAX?
