I have had 2 services now in which I’ve asked specifically to change my cabin filter. One time I was charged, but no doubt it had not been done. Yesterday, 3 service I asked SPECIFICALLY again to change it as it just seemed to be getting ignored. A different business. Again, they did not and said they could when I come back another time. It desperately needed to be changed as my allergies were getting worse. Then I thought why can’t I clean it and use it again. Well, after watching your video, seeing how absolutely clogged mine was, I decided to just change it myself completely. I did so and you were so right about how the aircon blows stronger! I just clean it by dipping it in surf excel for 5 min, then rinse in clear water and sun dry it. Done it about 8 times and its still good for a few times more. Make sure u don't twist or press on the filter. This applies only to non oiled industrial paper filters, like the ones found in alto k10. I repeat it every 2500kms without fail.

Thanks for the heads-up! Somehow, the filters I've seen on Volkswagen Jettas, made in Europe by MANN didn't seem to fare well with water. The Hyundai i10 we have has a mesh type filter, which I safely wash. However Hyundai also offers a paper type filter, which also tore during gentle washing. So I believe your method is best suitable only for stronger paper based filters. Thanks for sharing!

@@SujoyShivde I also do the same for the main air filter from the past 3 yrs. My highway mileage is 26+Kmpl@90Kmph,19+Kmpl@110Kmph,city mileage being 17Kmpl all with AC on, alto k10 vxi AMT 2016 model. So this filter cleaning method seems to work, or at least not cause any issue till now. Cheers.

@@SujoyShivde fill the sink with hot water then use laundry soap then stick something on top of the filter to make it sink. Wait an hour then rinse it with hot water for about 5 minutes then blow dry it with a portable hair dryer.

You might have installed the Air Filter the wrong way. There is a directional flow to it.

Maaaaaaaaan I just checked and replaced mines after about 2+ years and it was so dirty it looked burnt! I mean 100x worse than the one in this video 🤮 I got the new one and added a couple drops of fragrance and WOW! what a diffrence not only does it seem to be blowing much stronger and colder but it just feels so fresh inside now like I had no idea that I was sitting and breathing all that stuff in 🤧

Most owner's manuals recommend cleaning or replacing the filter every year but cleaning beforehand reduces allergies and in car odour! If you need help with your specific make or model, do comment and I'll get back to you. In a few cases, you might not even have to take off the Glovebox :)

Depends on the filter. On nylon, synthetic filters you can wash, and then blow dry the filter. On paper based filters, washing effectively damages the filtration

No, the filter was dusted and cleaned and, not replaced with a new one. If the filter is entirely clogged and mucky, and if a new one is cheap for your make and model, can always use a new one.

It's designed to be replaced, not cleaned unless you replace it with a brand that's designed to be cleaned.

Yes you're partially right. Some car makers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai in our country perform a replacement every alternate years. The other years they're cleaned with shop air. This has been a practice for both paper based and mesh type filters. Do refer to your owners manual for what they recommend. On my VW, I replace it annually, while on my Hyundai, Suzuki, it is replaced biennially.

It isn't rocket science. Locate your air filter, in quite a few cars it's usually behind the passenger glovebox. Then take it out, and dust it clean. If it's reusable, you can even wash it. If it's paper, you can tap and dust it and blow it clean with a blower. That's pretty much it. Cheers.
