I'm definitely going to try this, a friend of ours sent us some pictures through messenger of him dehydrating chicken gizzards, livers and hearts. They might like that also. I'm going to experiment with some other seasonings as well, just simple things. Another thing we noticed about all three of our dogs is that they love original style Mingua beef jerky, it is marinated in soy sauce, brown sugar and liquid smoke. The teriyaki style ingredients are a bit more complicated although the main ingredients in it is teriyaki sauce and molasses. I just think it will be interesting to experiment with different rubs and marinades to hopefully find the magic potion. 😊

Salt nor sugar are recommended for dogs. They can't tolerate salt the way humans can because it can lead to the dog becoming dehydrated. There are many herbs that are beneficial to dogs but salt and sugar are not. Try using turmeric, rosemary, or ginger which are healthy for dogs.
@BecomeInspired
@BecomeInspired 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jerry, thanks so much for your viewership and contribution! Like most living things, dogs need salt to help balance fluids and keep nerves functioning properly. Dogs naturally need sodium as part of an electrolyte balance, so small amounts of salt aren't bad for my dog. Consult a vet before changing your dog's diet. Because I don't feed my dog as much conventional dog food, which has added sodium, I add my own sodium. You don't have to follow this advice, and again, consult a veterinarian before you change their diet.

Agreed. I study canine nutrition. My specialty is Leaky Gut. In raw feeding sugar and salt is an added no no. Any holistic vet will agree. This was too hard to watch. I quit half way. Any dog with yeast issus should not use this recipe at all. Chicken is quite an inflammatory and not recommended for dogs with issues.
@Jazexotics
@Jazexotics Жыл бұрын
Agreed. Natural salt and sugars come already in the food you choose to feed. Maybe it’s not in your chicken so you should add fruits for sugars or something …. But that salt and sugar is just a big no no! Just like us humans we should get natural sugars from foods that naturally create it already … do not add sugar ! It’s good to feed your dog natural but adding that just made it a little worse.

I had the same question. My dehydrator is older and you can roll the dial to different heat settings. The one she showed from Amazon says it has a preset temperature of 165 degrees. That seems kind of low. So maybe we could get away with less time at a higher temperature. I do my human jerky that way.
@BecomeInspired
@BecomeInspired 4 жыл бұрын
@@moodyblewis5881 Hi Moody! Yes, that's an option. 165 is just fine, and after running for a day or two, the jerky comes out excellent! It's perfect because the meat cooks slowly and steadily, preventing it from drying out. If you go too hot, it will dry out quickly. Have fun!

@@BecomeInspired Thanks! I have to spell the word TREAT around here LOL. Can't wait to make this for my girl. She is tiny, but has razor sharp teeth. @@moodyblewis5881 Trust me, I can't say anything that even starts with the letter "T!" If you want to go for chewier, I'd do slightly thicker slices. 165 is fine, but make sure it cooks for at least 24 hours.

I’m curious I’ve always heard dogs can’t have salt. Why would you add salt to jerky for dog.
@BecomeInspired
@BecomeInspired 3 жыл бұрын
This was my personal decision, you don’t have to do exactly as I do. I don’t buy traditional dog food, which has salt like minerals added. So I personally add my own because salts are necessary for brain function in a matter what kind of animal or human you are. They’re naturally found in dirt, and dogs eat food in the dirt. Always consult your vet before making any dietary changes for your pets

This is nice, I need to buy a dehydrator. As of now I slice my dogs chicken the same way you did only I put them on drying racks in the oven starting at 350°, then gradually decrease temp all the way down to 170°. Then I flip them and I leave them on 170° for about 1.5hrs so they get chewy. The whole process takes about 3.5hrs. I would use a dehydrator but found out I can make a lot more in the oven and with less time. Do they make bigger dehydrators?

I have an Excaliber dehydrator and do this professionally, you absolutely don’t need salt and sugar lol How is that more healthy? Just time 12-22 hours of time depending on the meat , thinly sliced meat or fish with little to no fat on it. Can last up to 3 months in a airtight class jar stored at room temperature or in the freezer or refrigerator. If you air tight seal it for storage in Mylar bags that works too just keep it in a cool dark and dry location.

For easier slicing, put the breasts in the freezer, maybe 45 minutes or so, just to get them stiffer making them easier to slice. Also keeping the temperature at 115 degrees or below will keep the necessary good gut bacteria alive.

Someone said to flash bake it after dehydrating at 200 Fahrenheit to kill any salmonella. I was wondering about it needed to be cooked beforehand. Im thinking of doing some organ meats but i havent found a video on it yet.

@@mariapaulacoello1920 which one if your model doesn't have the function if your device can change it temperature to something like 60c and cook for 6hrs I don't see how that's different Though I just checked i can't use the air crisp option and lower below 150 Maybe there's other ways but I know with an 9 in one Air Fryer you can as it's got the function If not you could get a dehydrator pretty cheap and if you're using it more than once it will pay off over using an oven and it's cheaper making dog treats yourself than buying them premade You can also do Beef Jerky and Dried Fruits, using an oven is possible but it takes not as safe and it will use so much energy that it's not worth it imo also I don't think you can do as much In a oven Basically if you're going to do it regularly the device will pay for itself on electricity saved unless you're stealing power 😂

Temp?

I set it on high. The dehydrator doesn’t have a temperature reading, but you can be safe using whatever temperature is listed safe for chicken.

What is the temperature?
@BecomeInspired
@BecomeInspired 3 жыл бұрын
I have it set on high. Because the slices are so thin, the "high" setting is sufficient to reach the safe internal temperature of chicken, which I believe is at least 165 F.

This video has very bad advise. Please don't put salt or sugar on your chicken. You can put chopped fresh or dried parsley instead. And don't over crowd the dehydrator like that. You don't want any overlaping or touching. Bake until the chicken is crunchy and snaps. You don't want it bendy. If you'd like for safety reasons, after dehydrating the chicken, flash bake at 200°F in the oven for 5 min or so. It will kill any salmonella that may be present. The only impressing thing is how thin she was able to get those slices by hand. Good job.
@BecomeInspired
@BecomeInspired 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Joanna! Thanks for watching my video. I love cooking so I get to practice a lot with slicing. Consult a vet before changing your dog's diet. I don't feed my dogs conventional dog food often, so they're not getting the sodium they need from that artificial food. So you know, dogs naturally need sodium as part of an electrolyte balance, so small amounts of salt aren't bad for your dog. Like most living things, dogs need salt to help balance fluids and keep nerves functioning properly.
@OrgyBlossom89
