Good video. I did this for my husband a few years ago. Wished I would’ve seen this video first. Didn’t remove the eyeballs before boiling... UGH. Was quite the learning experience but well worth it. My magic bullet for whitening it was a scoop of oxy clean. Wished I would’ve done that earlier in my process. Cleaned the bone and ate all the lil pieces off. The antlers did get in the foam, but wood stain colored them back up. I kept the lower jaw and when mounting the skull on an oak plank, I framed the oak with the lower jaw. Turned out awesome.

You can always keep the cape in the freezer for a shoulder mount later on. Just cut the skull cap off the euro.

If you used a flat head screw driver and hammer the can place it at base of antler and it will peel it clean from antler

After you boil it you can use a pressure washer set low to blast off any meat even inside the skull.

They look that way because the head was frozen at one point. The eyes cloud up and turn a blue hazy color

If you like that natural bronze look you mentioned. Try burry your head leaving the antlers sticking out . Leave them in for a few months before checking them

I water hoser with good pressure with help with cleaning out nose and brain makes it real easy using a good water hose

My brother in law told me you can wrap the antlers in aluminum foil and it will keep the color I did it yesterday and it worked good for me I submerged almost the whole antlers and they didn’t fade

I have been skull mounts for 7 years now and in those years i have made mistakes and found helpfull ways to get them done but my #1 is never ever use bleach yes it makes it nice and white but over time the bone will start to flake and get very weak, straight bleach weakens the bone and your head will not look so good

Just curious I’m doing my first European mount and wondered if the tung is worth eating? We always try to use what we can heart and liver and such just never tried the tung cause we always just caped em if we wanted em mounted.

The spot where the spine was attached to the skull is a very hard bone. I drill a pilot hole for a screw through it and a board. Then attach it to the board by running the screw through the board into the skull.

1/2” galanized pipe will thread right into the brain stem hole. A short piece and a 45 deg then another short 2” or so piece then a floor flange makes a great looking way to mount to a wall

I wouldn't use this method on deer in areas with CWD unless you have it tested first.

@@selz4029 look at your states recommendations for handle deer a carcass suspected of having CWD. One thing they recommend is no contact with spinal cord or brain material. That's where the CWD prions are most prevalent. When you simmer that deers scull you would be basically making a CWD soup. Not good.
