I have found that a tray with baking soda is really great to support when baking and it doesn't leave any shine or flat spots (also, try using white vinegar on burns :) just soak a piece of paper towel or cloth in white vinegar and lay it on the burn -even sun burn- you may smell like a pickle, lol, but it will make it feel better right away and heal faster!

I struggle hard with perfectionism to a debilitating defeat. You just cut those wings without regard and I agree it was a good choice. No way I could do that! Nor could I do any of this! My fear of messing up keeps me from attempting so many things. Maybe if I wasn't so "economically challenged" and didn't want to waste material on my failures then I would engage in more experiences. Whatever it is, I need to jump in and stop being afraid!

If you score each part of the clay and add just a tiny bit of the liquid clay before putting them together they will connect more securely for baking and also be more stable after baking. This is how potters attach real clay together.

Question for anyone who happens to know: Do you happen to know which kind of glue could work on a plastic-y frame? I've wanted to do this kind of thing (fake moss and everything) on my own mirror, but I'm pretty sure the frame isn't made of wood haha I own some good ol ''hobby glue'', but don't currently own a glue gun. Would be willing to buy one if glue guns are a must for this kind of project though. Thanks in advance!
@backtoearthcreations
@backtoearthcreations 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, Spammerts! I would use a low temp glue gun, or test out on a discreet part of the back of one of the mirrors to see how the high temp hot glue affects it. I have melted some projects that had a plastic base using Super Glue, so I always do a test patch if I have doubts! I hope this is helpful to you

@ChibiChula
@ChibiChula 2 жыл бұрын
This turned out magical! 😍 I actually like the mushrooms as they are, though I wouldn't mind them painted I think you should just use some translucent, barely there color, like a tint. Maybe some alcohol ink would work for that effect if it was lightened up with more alcohol? I'd suggest glass paint but I'm not sure if it would react badly with the clay. I guess your idea of glow in the dark paint works too, though I would suggest watering it down so it works more like a tint and maybe using a color gradient instead of solid color (though that would mean more work, I know). To be honest, I think these type of mushrooms look like jelly fish and was picturing you doing something like them but with more tendrils on the bottom rather than the stems, then giving them a blue color which fades to a purple-pink at the edges and sorta suspending it in light blue resin somehow, maybe with some sculpted coral too, to use as decoration like a paper weight or a black light nightlight, lol. BTW, am I remembering wrong? I thought the moon crescents were supposed to hung with the points facing the moon? Meh, doesn't really matter I guess. Also, the reason you were having trouble with the liquid polymer clay was that you were using too much! It needs to be "painted" on in a thin layer and you need to use it between every connection between baked and raw clay. Think of it like glue. It's best to use it on the raw clay first and sorta scratch the surface and work it in so the clay softens a bit and gets really tacky before sticking it to the baked clay. The best thing you could do on these types of pieces though is make a little wire spiral for each cap with a bit of wire sticking out the middle and make a loop facing up on that end then drop a tiny bit of liquid polyclay on the spiral bits before baking all the caps in a tray on a bed of cornstarch. The metal loop sticking out then gives the raw clay a nice spot to grip on to and they won't be falling off all the time. Hope that makes sense and helps you a bit in the future. 😅

Question: have you ever added glitter to polymer clay? Did it affect the outcome at all? I was also considering adding left-over bits of gold foil. Has anyone done this? How was the outcome? For the foil pieces, I am worried about burning the clay. For the glitter, I wanted to add a ton of it to a small piece of clay. I don't have much clay at the moment, that's why I am asking. I don't want to mess up what I have left :)
