I really enjoy your tutorials and I appreciate how frustrating that piece was. A lot of peoples videos downplay how much glass you could break. But you had a positive attitude about it, took a breath, and tried again. Love it! Thank you for the inspiration!

Very Nice project! When Using Grozing Pliers, it's best to hold them with the flat jaw on top This then let's you have relief when you apply downward pressure. It's also helpful if you use two pairs, then you can apply pressure on both sides as you break. When grozing, use the jaws just opposite and you'll have better success Great instruction!
@StainedGlassDIY5 жыл бұрын
Wait I've been doing it wrong this whole time?! 😓 I remember reading or seeing it somewhere to have the curved jaw up. I'll try to flip it and see how that goes. Would having two pair possibly damage the good side of the glass? I want to get a more narrow one for precise grozing anyway so I can try the two pliers method. Thanks so much for sharing with us!! ✌️
@GommStainedGlass5 жыл бұрын
@@StainedGlassDIY I don't know about when you are grozing, but when you're holding the glass for a break, having two pairs of pliers opposing each other doesn't hurt the glass. You did a great job in the video, trying to do that sharp curve 3 times. If you left extra glass on the top of the long piece so the radical curve had more glass on the top, it would be less likely to break that tip off. The glass wants to break in the easiest direction, so more mass on the top protects the little corner. Really a great training video!

Great video! When using those grozier pliers I have better luck using the flat edge of the pliers on the top surface of the glass so I can just twist in a downward motion instead of pulling. Of course you'd want to have them exactly the way you do in the video if you're trying to nibble away at little bits. You also may find a standard pistol grip cutter easier to use since your hands will be less shakey. It tends to give you more control while still allowing you to see where the tip of the cutter is heading in relation to the line since you can angle it slightly horizontal.
@StainedGlassDIY5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You're right, the flat edge is better on top. Just learned that one. I'll have to get a hold of a pistol grip cutter to try out one day. Thank you for the great knowledge and sharing with everyone!!

Hello great videos. Im new to this and I have been following your videos . I seen on this one your using a t-21 cutting tip which i think i read some where is for straight cuts. I think by using the t-10 you could avoid the breaking on the curve possibly?
@StainedGlassDIY4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip. Oh I remember it well, those cuts were tough 😅 I just found out more about those cutters and the straight tips are much bigger to keep the blade aligned as you’re cutting. Even with the pattern head I’m not looking to do those curves again!
@Claycorp5 жыл бұрын
Bwuaha hahaha. That one part really got ya good! That is certainly an annoying cut that is best avoided. As other have said break it down into parts and it should be good to go, It also seems like you got a crappy sheet of glass. Sometimes that just happens and you got to go with it! Looking forward to the next one!

For those inner pieces that kept snapping, if you took your knife and scored the part you are trying to chip away like with cross hatch but just a bunch of tiny short cuts... wouldn’t it make it easier to chip away at? Also what if you score the opposite side of the glass as well..... I’ve never done this before these are just things that came to mind as I was watching... maybe you don’t do it because scoring can weaken the whole piece??? If those aren’t good suggestions then they’re questions please! Good luck ;)
@StainedGlassDIY5 жыл бұрын
I think I agree with you and will try that next time! At least to score more to help assist. Maybe an expert might chime in on this one. Good thinking!
@Gabriela-zp1kj5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t recommend scoring the opposite side. Not only does it weaken it more and can cause him to not have control over his glass, but it also doesn’t help with accuracy. It’s opaque glass, so it can cause him not to score it properly (score it past the line, score it too much, not in size, etc). However, your advice on the crosshatching is correct. I would advice it for those deep curves, so that when cutting with pliers he has the necessary lines to help him in a controlled space.
@StainedGlassDIY5 жыл бұрын
Excellent advice and I'll try crosshatching next time, thanks! I did get some good use of my grozing pliers on this one 😬

I love the show but it doesn’t cover all the storylines I’m dying to know about. How Lady Stoneheart will play into the story, if the other Aegon will be a problem, is the gravedigger indeed the Hound and how will his and Sansa’s story play out? It’s been killing me for years. Use the top of your cutter to tap the glass at your score line. It will break cleanly 90% of time. Runners aren't the best tool for every cut.
@janelane26574 жыл бұрын
9:08 , 11:44 you will not be able to make such concave shapes with nippers, this does not correspond to the execution technology. the glass will always break off. moreover, you did it without preliminary cutting. such places need to be ground on a grinding machine, or the shape must be divided into two parts with an additional line. there is another way - to cut successively arcs, approaching the shape, but the risk of breaking is still very high.
